Hi, I need to install a new double din headunit to replace my R34 factory unit. After reading through the forums, it seems relatively simple to remove the unit however there replacing the wiring loom is beyond my mechanical abilities! I know that JB, BDL, Braddon and Tuggeranong car audio do instllations around town. If there are others installers that people recommend, can you let me know? Thanks Nick

This is obviously a very common problem. Today my R34 GTT got broken into and it was only for the immobiliser that it wasn't stolen. I now need to replace my ignition barrel because of the damage. Any ideas on whether a 33 or 32 ignition barrels fit will fit a R34 GTT? Any advice on where to buy one would be appreciated.

Some low life tried to steal my car today, fortunately my immobiliser stopped them before they got away. CCTV did quite have the resolution to pick up the plates... In the process they damaged my ignition barrel. Please PM me if you have an ignition barrel in good working order. Thanks Nick

Thanks for your response. Why not use shockproof for the box? How about 75W90 instead? As for the diff (front open diff, rear LSD) Some say LSD oil all round while others say I am getting different advice on the Transfer Case, I have heard to use a high temp ATF, Nissan Matic D, synthetic ATF? What about volume of ATF? Thanks again

I am looking to replace my engine, gearbox, diff oils and brake fluid on my R32 GTR. I need to find out how much oil and fluids I required for the change? Any help appreciated Engine - Motul 4100 (next time 8100) - 4ltr Gearbox - Redline Shockproof - How much? Diff - Any recommendations for what to use? - How much? Brake fluid - Motul RBF 600 - How much? If people are interested it might be worth posting the amounts for each Skyline as I couldn't find the information anywhere else on the forum? Thanks

Having done this numerous times you don't have many options. I used to have a flatbed tow truck collect the car in Sydney and drop it off at Canberra Carways depot in Cambeltown. Canberra Carways would then deliver it to my chosen address in Canberra. Considering your ground clearence I don't think this will be an option for you. Your Freight forwarder/Customs broker should recommend a company who can accommodate your car and you might just have to pay them to deliver it straight to Canberra. Good luck

I am not sure how effective club locks are either. I remember watching one of those sensationalistic news programs and using brute force a thief can break even the best ones. I do like the idea of a hidden kill switch though. The only way to steal the car besides locating the switch is on the back of a truck...

Interesting point there and very lucky on your behalf. With so many false alarms these days it is good to see that people still respond to an alarm. It was acutally suggested to me to have the alarm installed in the cabin because even if bystanders ignore an alarm sounding, it is unlikely a thief will or can ignore 100 decibels ringing in his or her ears for very long.

Embarressingly I didn't have an alarm which made me an easy target. I did a lot of research into alarms and yes many of the systems are very good but it comes down to how well it is fitted. Canberra isn't known for its quality alarm fitters either. Recent studies indicated that a professional thief are able to bypass most alarms and immobilisers in an average of 20 seconds. This is because of the quick and cheap installations. From the information I gathered a good fitter needs at least half a day to properly fit the system to make it difficult for a thief to bypass.

OK. As I approach my pride and joy (32 GTR) Wednesday afternoon, I look in the drivers side door and notice something very strange, my steering wheel is missing... Confused, I try to make sense of it. The first thought is someone has been in my car? After unlocking the door (they were thoughtful enough to lock the car up) and jumping in I quickly assess the situation and realise that nothing else has been stolen or damaged. I take a closer look at the steering column and notice that in the process of taking the wheel which was a well used Imola they had actually snapped the steering shaft. I then think their motives must have been revenge as the wheel was hardly worth it and that the damage caused would be more expensive. I jump out of the car and assess the externals, engine bay, boot etc. Nothing was touched, infact there were absolutely no signs of forced entry. Bummed out as you can well imagine I arrange a tow truck and the driver advices me that I am very lucky as they tried to steal the car and snapped the shaft in the process of breaking the steering lock (done with a good amound of force). This happened in the Constitution Ave car park opposite the Convention centre. In this case I was exceptionally lucky that the shaft snapped before the steering lock as I have no doubt the car would have been gone if it hadn't. The car is in the process of being repaired and I am getting a satellite tracking security system installed. It isn't worth the risk. Coincidently, in Sundays Canberra Times there is an article about car theft in Canberra. Statistically, the worst areas not surprisingly are the city, Kingston, Phillip and I think Belconnen. My advice, insurance, well installed security system and a bit of vigilence.

I noticed two of the new ones have been installed facing both north and south on the Parkway (just north of the Cotter Rd over pass). Does anyone know if these are live yet because the signs haven't been erected??? Has anyone else noticed if any of the other ones have been installed yet?

If you are interested my recommendation would be to speak to Customs about importing a halfcut. If they think that an import approval is required then you need to speak with the vehicle imports section of DOTARS.

IT is a great industry for work and salary especially in Canberra, it has been great for me. Yes, most of us would love to be passionate about what they do (a few are lucky to be paid to do what we are passionate about but most aren't). I mean who wouldn't want to be a highly paid professional racing driver or some other highly paid sports star with the associated benifits??? Unfortunately the hard reality is that most of us will never achieve this in our chosen profession. The important thing is that we get some job satisfaction and enough $$$'s to be able to live a quality life and don't forget the friends we make along the way. BTW I am a IT systems engineer. Tuggeranong sucks. It is small and doesn't have a good selection of free weights. There is a new one opening next door. Not sure what it will be like. Southern Cross is one of the best in Canberra but yes it can be busy. I go to the ANU. Not the main part which gets really busy but the older one next to it. It is part of the weight lifting club so it has all the free weights you could want plus it is nice and cheap

Hanyou, I feel for you. Amaru, considering you have been an active forum member for some time I would have expected better from you. I have been in similar unfortunate positions as Hanyou and from experience it isn't fun. Sort this simply issue out once and for all. We all belong this great Skyline community and if you are unwilling treat members with respect, then perhaps you need to consider whether you should participate in this community at all.

OK. I too was freaked out when I heard about a so called 'super' camera so I thought I would go directly to the horses mouth - ACT Department of Territory and Municipal Services. I spoke to a guy in the camera infringement division to get the official position. Firstly new legislation needs to be passed before the cameras can be installed in the identified locations. Assuming this passes, which it will we will see cameras in the above locations. I proceeded to enquire about this 'super' camera of which he said there is no such thing planned. No, we are not getting what the VICS have either. What we are getting is a combination of radar based cameras and the loop back cameras. The loop back cameras work on exactly the same principle as the existing red light/speed camera. That is a couple of sensors are installed in the road to trigger the camera. The sensors will not be located at any real distance apart so the speed will be calculated in front of the camera so that it can photograph the speeding vehicle. The radar type is the new one and it will be deployed in the same direction that the camera faces so that the camera can get a shot at the number plates. Finally, they will not be hidden or burried under the ground. The only thing undergroud will be the loop back sensors. All cameras will be mounted in much the same fashion as the existing ones. Lets hope that this puts everyone at ease like it did for me and if we are all the good law abiding citizens that we SAU members are then there is nothing to worry about
