  1. Let's keep this thread on the lighter side of life thanks ladies and gents. If it even looks like going down the path of agro' over personal beliefs then it's gone and never to surface again. 1st and only warning.
  2. Ah, that's okay Pete, but if you happen to be walking along, with your hands in your pockets, and you trip over, if you don't get them out in time... it's because you support Port and you are being punished for your sin In all honesty, my father-in-law and sister-in-law are Port supporters. The family is dealing with it as best we can
  3. Please note that Neil has read through this thread - most of you would have expected this by this stage anyway.
  4. Well, that depends on who you speak to at Regency Park and which Transport SA approved engineer you speak with. Have you tried ringing them (Transport SA standards) a few times about the exact same issue, I have, and I got three completely different answers. The Transport SA approved engineer gave me advice that two Transport SA standards department employees contradicted - a third one agreed with the engineer. Transport SA can't even find a common ground with regards to light vehicle modifications within their own department and engineers. Good luck getting to a point with your car that you are completely in compliance with SA road regulations in regards to light vehicle modifications. This is the crux of the whole defects/SAPOL issue.
  5. Is your brake upgrade engineered and certified? And have you looked into the cost associated with getting the engine upgrade engineered and certified - not that any of this will mean it is automatically accepted.
  6. Cara, tell me, are you still intending to do the NA-to-turbo upgrade? And will that be getting engineered to be legal and certified via Transport SA? Will you also carry out the required brake upgrade and get this engineered? I ask these questions - and could ask many many more - because 'popping the bonnet' has the potential to cost you a considerable amount more than a moment of your time. It will cost you large sums of money to have the upgrades correctly engineered, and even then, thanks to the poorly run state regulatory body that oversees vehicle modifications, it may not be deemed legal.
  7. Nene, sorry to be a 'late arrival' but could you please forward it to me as well. Will PM my e-mail ASAP. Cheers.
  8. Oi! That there's fightin' words! Oh, you mean a large gathering of the feathered variety, that's okay then.
  9. Pete, I would even go so far as to suggest that some of the cars on this forum have had up to 3 years worth of above average wages put into them over the past half a decade or more. Should these types of cars be defected, they will NEVER see the road again.
  10. Nene, I can understand what you're saying, it is indeed an opportunity to make something positive happen between a car enthusiast group and local enforcement, I'm just not sure how far-reaching 'their' side of the equation is. It's a tough one, that's for sure. Perhaps look at it as a short term thing, as you've suggested, and if you really want to be pro-active and approach Neil, do so armed with the right questions. What are they expecting of us, what will they tolerate from a modifying perspective, are they content to observe at a distance, do they intend to conduct regular roadworthy checks etc. I'm off to bed, I'll have a bit more of a think about and see what else people come up with.
  11. You know that, I know that, and a reasonable number of other contributors in this thread know that... It's also why I wrote earlier in the thread about the youth hoon stigma attached to Japanese import cars. It only takes one person to bring things undone. And the chances of that happening? It's a case of when, not if.
  12. By all means have a meeting with this particular officer, Neil. I would suggest asking things along the lines of: Is his point of view one that is supported by SAPOL across the board, just him personally, or a select few at the station he is currently based at - this is paramount to the entire topic. Are they (SAPOL in general) interested in showing tolerance in the areas of performance modifications (within reason) in return for fostering a positive and sensible approach to driving cars like ours on public roads. Would they be content to merely show a presence at cruise events and, providing people are behaving, allow cruises to proceed without conducting defect blitzes, compiling rego' lists, and other general negative stereotype behaviour. I'm sure I could think of numerous additional suggestions, but it's late, I have an early start tomorrow, and it's been a long day. I can't help but think that, if we (SAU) as a group are generally well behaved, wouldn't it be a better idea to focus on targeting other more 'rogue' groups and attempting to re-educate those that warrant it. Weed out the problem elements via rego lists and defect checks... make it tough for those that abuse the privilege of driving a motor vehicle in this country and show a level of tolerance for those that modify and yet can apply common sense and maturity.
  13. I wish I had something a little more positive to add at this point in time, unfortunately all I have is... One major factor, that's not likely to change in the next 10 years (and possibly longer) is the fact that, unlike the older muscle car scene, late model Japanese cars have a youth 'hoon' stigma attached to them. If the state government and 'overall' police agenda (not the odd one or two) was committed to improving relations with enthusiasts and fostering positive relations with car and bike groups, then we'd have a new drag/track facility in the pipeline and underway already. Instead, we have seen it go by the wayside. We are often our own worst enemies in every possible way - think about that one for a moment or two the next time you don't exercise commonsense and discretion with your right foot. This issue is one that is not easily solved.
  14. First things first, Kellie/Bunny33, please understand that what Joel and others are saying is no reflection on your efforts at organising regular cruise based events. I've not attended one, but I don't doubt they have been well organised and conducted in a sensible and spirited manner. Some years ago, it was I that organised the majority of the SAU SA based cruise events. These events often included other mature car forum groups, and they were almost always conducted without an issue - I even recall having in excess of 70 cars at one event and not one problem occurred that attracted a police reaction. Unfortunately, due to the ever changing world we live in, the street car/cruise environment has changed, and not for the better. The average road-registered performance car modifier now faces more public and police scrutiny than he/she ever has. Younger*, less mature, less experienced drivers are now able to afford high powered imported Japanese cars, power levels are continuing to rise, and more importantly the media are well on the way to demonising ALL performance car enthusiasts’. This all adds up to pressure from the voting public upon the state government, and that means the government in turn places a level of significant importance on this topic to the state’s police force to increase their scrutiny. To willing invite this scrutiny is more likely to end in tears than it is smiles all round. Please don't get me wrong here, I'm not advocating a devil may care attitude, I'm merely suggesting that it would be better to not overtly advertise regular road cruising events and inadvertently pushing the SAU SA name onto "everyone's" radar. A less formal, spur of the moment, and low-key approach is probably the best current solution. *I have used the term 'younger' in conjunction with the other traits listed above, not in isolation.
  15. Yep Steve, that was me.
  16. The race gas vs E85 issue is the reason I'm keen to back-to-back test 110RON Martini vs E85. I'm aiming to do this prior to the Xmas holiday period.
  17. Hey Martin, I helped Adam and Strat set a few of the cars up on the dyno', they were strapping them down correctly. Andrew's car ran in Shoot 6F mode. In my opinion, had Andrew's RB26DETT ran at the boost level it did on the Willall run you've posted, I'm betting the result would have been damn close to your dyno' run. The additional 4psi of boost would have comfortably made up the difference (17.8rwkw) and quite possibly bettered it. I suggested to Shaun that we put Andrew's car back on again at the end, this time with the boost wound up, but by that stage he wasn't feeling all that crash hot - the XA-XB Coupe's had filled the dyno’ cell with enough 'nasties' to make the lads feel pretty average, even with the extraction fans on. Once my ‘thing’ has been finished and final dyno' tuning completed, we can always run it on the Willall Mainline for a general comparison. I have a feeling the two dyno's will give very similar results. It was good to see one or two old faces that I hadn't seen in quite a while, and good to meet a few new ones too – including Andrew/Blue32… even through we crossed paths two days earlier Thanks for the beers after too, Daz.
  18. I can't wait to get the bigger injectors fitted so that Shaun can do an E85 tune... it WILL be happening before Xmas holidays! Knowing my luck, instead of a 40-50-60kw gain (I recall Joel saying Adrian's 33 jumped to 300+ from ~240) I'll go from 302rwkw to 310 ha-ha.
  19. From what I've seen, 120mph with 260-270rwkw is right on the money. My numbers below were achieved at that power level.
  20. No guarantee that, Martin will say yes, but he's a decent kind of guy so it wouldn't hurt to ask him.
  21. It certainly needed a few changes, after it crashed heavily (not by Tim) not long after last years event! This years Classic Adelaide Prologue (on tomorrow, Wed 19th Nov) is being conducted at Eagle On The Hill. It is a closed event and spectators are not allowed - even official photographers will be struggling to get good vantage points for photo opportunities. I'm taking Friday off work and will be heading down south nice and early to catch some of the action.
  22. Bugger the R34, R33, or R32... just give Willall Racing a ring, ask for Martin and see if he wants a $100 to take you and your partner in the R35 GTR.
  23. Ha-ha fair call, Will What can I say, it started as a simple $3k turbo upgrade in 2006 and has since turned into a... ummm... maybe $10k long term project. The old set-up that ran the numbers listed in my sig' is not even close to the 'real world' grunt of the new set-up, and the new set-up isn't at full potential yet. At best I reckon the old set-up would've made 260-270rwkw on the BW dyno. Unfortunately it won't be ready for the dyno day on Sat, so I'll merely be a spectator. Be good to catch up though mate.
