No, I haven't entered yet mate. The Adelaide round of Autosalon (R5) is on 12-13 Aug' this year. A basic entry (no power and no dyno comp') is $70. Entry can be done online here: http://www.autosalon.org/index2.html?events I'm keen to enter as part of a SAU group/club. We've talked about it before and this time I'm in all the way - if we get the numbers. I also need to have the car completed and ready to go in time!
-
Perfect! Just what I was hoping to hear Adrian. Many thanks for the info' mate. Given my intended usage it's hard to go past the ET Radials, especially when you compare the price to other road legal motorsport tyres. Cheers, Matt
-
Yeah Ash. That's mine. She's likely to be there for a little while longer too - niggling issues to sort out, waiting on a few parts and lots of changes to be made. I'm hoping it'll be 100% completed well in advance of Autosalon.
-
Keen on a set of 275/40/17s - later in the year at this stage (will get back to this thread later on that one). But interested to know how the ET Radial would stack up as a 'semi all-rounder' tyre, and by that I mean: Drag duties (max' 20 passes including burnout) ~2000-3000 Klms of road use (probably once a month and 99.99% in the dry) Occassional lateral grip use (ie spirited 'legal' cornering on the road) I would imagine a 275/40/17 ET Radial would be able to exploit it's soft compound and low'ish' profile (provided pressure is at 32-34+psi) to provide a 'reasonable' level of lateral grip, yes?

Congrats Chapman. It looks very clean and tidy mate. I've noticed more R34s around Adelaide lately. They're a good looking car.

A Few Upgrades + Custom Turbonetics Turbo Pics
whatsisname replied to whatsisname's topic in South Australia
Thought I'd drag this tread back from the dead, as I've been doing a bit more research and parts procurement lately. Still haven't competed the upgrade yet - soon hopefully. It turns out I jumped to conclusion about the new turbo, it's actually a ceramic ball-bearing T62-1/T3 0.63 Stage V (try saying that three times as fast as you can!). So what I assumed was a 60-1 is actually a 62-1. The T62-1 compressor outflows the T60-1 by 10%. Compressors: T62-1 Inducer: 2.441 Major: 3.00 Inlet: 4.00 T60-1 Inducer: 2.324 Turbine: T3 0.63 Stage V Exducer: 2.437 Major Dia': 2.795 I probably should do a thread in the Forced Induction section, however, I'll start by asking here; has anyone or does anyone know someone that has fitted a Plazmaman RB25DET plenum to their GTS25t? I'll be happy enough if I don't lose power (as the plenum is almost worth it on appearance and ease of plug changes alone) but it would interesting to see if the plenum does actually 'work'. Clint, if you read this, that's some nice head porting mate! James has some skills! -
Did you select a maximum of 15psi due to detonation above this boost level? Or did you select this boost level with engine reliability in mind? If it's the latter, then I'm with Grepin. I would be looking at running a little more than 15psi with the HKS GT2835 ProS. The addition of another 3-5psi will produce a significant increase in power. As for the Tassie RON issue: When my Dad had his 2dr STI he always added 8L of toluene per tank (bought 20L drums from Shell). This was an approved and recommended practice by Subaru and Performance Automobiles - Hobart's main Subaru dealer. This is probably the best (cheapest and least destructive) option until 98RON is available. I would very much doubt coolant temp' related detonation was a major (or minor for that matter) factor - we're talking Tassie in May, it ain't that warm! I've just come back from surfing at Seven Mile Point (near Hobart airport) and my 'nads' are yet to venture back outside my body. At your current level of modifications I would expect ~250-260rwkw with a safe 95RON (+toluene) tune and 18-20psi boost pressure.

I'm going to head down for a look - probably arrive around 12ish.

No you don't see to many 275/40/17's on the second hand market. I got the Nittos off Keir Wilson, so maybe try the Willall guys. They might have some used BFG Drag Radials. Congratulations to you and Anglela on the bubs to be! Big year indeed mate! And the booby prize is... one months worth of sleepless nights - beginning in early August Just kidding mate. Cammed + auto with converter = awesome off the line. Thanks for posting the picture Lach - love your work! It certainly illustrates the size difference hey mate? Looks like it could be a bit on the 'laggy' side by comparision to yours - if size is any indicator. Notice the difference in turbine blade design? Your exh' wheel has curved blades whereas the Turbonetics exhaust wheel blades are straight. Edit: Oh and I also notice that your wastegate port has been machined out! Hmmm... might be an issue for mine too!? I can't wait to see how this turbo (with manifold to suit) is going to perform. -

You know me well Darren - the parts have to perform, AND look the goods haha. Yep, nicely spotted mate. 60-1 comp'. Hopefully this combo' will do the job as is. But if not then we'll just have mix and match exhaust housing options. They sure are! A close family member and a work mate have both had new arrivals this year. The Nittos have got a little bit of life left in them yet mate. Post upgrade that may change Once I've figured out a replacement for them I'll let you know. You need them more than I do! I care Wow! That's an awesome result Will. And very recent too I see. I can see why you're keen on getting a run at AIR Weekend trip to Vic mate? Chapman, the cams are HKS 256 (8.8) inlet and 264 (9.0) exhaust. -

Here's the exhaust housing: This may or may not be the final choice. The options are T3 0.63 or 0.82 - both internal gate. Each option can be had in 5 stages (I, II, III, IV and V) - increasing in size/power. The T3 0.63 stage V is very VERY conseratively rated at 500-550hp. Just recently my Turbonetics contact fitted a 33 RB25DET with a 350hp rated Turbonetics turbo. It made 250rwkw (not sure what boost level). Should be interesting. -

Love your work Will And the results? A little girl hey? That's awesome Erica! I'm guessing Mum is happy about that one I would've dropped in to say hi to John if I wasn't already running late. Thanks Joolz. Thanks Lach'. I'm going with a custom Turbonetics turbo and custom manifold. The turbo arrived from the US just recently - I got to have a look at it yesterday. If you've got a picture capable mobile mate I'll send you some camera phone pics I took of it (will get some dig' camera shots and post 'em up next week). I'll confirm the turbo's exact spec's once all the testing is completed. The aim is to get low/mid 300s with best possible response - so some chopping and changing 'may' be needed. I was a bit surprised when I had a look at it, it's a tad bigger than I was expecting! It's not huge though. And as you'd expect from me... I like the fact that Turbonetics turbos come with a nice polished compressor cover Oh yeah... it's internal wastegate Poor quality pic. But it gives some idea... the 20c piece is sitting well above the comp' wheel so it makes the wheel look smaller than it actually is: -

Damn no access at work bites. Thanks nosman. Yeah servicing is a little more time consuming than normal. Eventually a Greddy plenum will go on - so at least plug changes will be easier. Thanks Mrs Munro And how's the family (little one in particular) doing? Well I hope. Saw the X5 parked out at the caravan yard the other day, I'm guessing that was John? Hahaha yeah fair call Will Thanks mate. How's the house coming along? Did you manage to squeeze that extra 'house extension' (read cam upgrade) in? Likewise, I'm keen to see all you guys! I wish I had more spare time It's amazing how much time house reno's and a little one takes up. Haven't even been for a surf in months r31turbo: Thanks mate. I dealt direct with the guys at Velo - highly recommend them! The prices are very reasonable considering you're getting a custom ordered full glass seat ie lightweight. I looked at other brands, but when you consider the fact that there's no freight costs (for example: Cobras are waaaay overpriced in Australia compared to UK prices once converted to AUD $) and you're supporting an Aussie company it's no contest. Thanks Guy. I've spotted the silver beast around a few times over the last few months mate. Still looks immaculate. Thanks Madaz. I figured the black/red stitch combo was a good way to add detail without going over the top. I'm not sure about the car's colour Deluxe. In the past I've had a few people mention it looks more red than the standard maroon. Hmmm... you might be on to something there mate. I understand your frustrations Daz - hang in there mate. The set-backs and hold-ups only make it sweeter when it all comes together. Hey Andrew! Thanks dude. Naaa less than 300, but still up there. Hangin' to see how much it 'can' make though. The new set-up should be good. Yeah for sure mate! I'm keen to check out the 34. Once the 33 upgrade is complete (should start within a week or so) then I'll head over and we can catch up. -

Thanks Chapman. Very soon hopefully! The turbo arrived in OZ the other day and everything should be ready to begin work in about a week - fingers crossed. There's a bit to do - new manifold, inlet piping, 'flashy' oil/water lines and fittings, exhaust mods, heatshield and then extra time if the turbo combo' need to be modified. And then once it's all good it has to come off again to be ceramic coated. Hey I just noticed in your details - R34 4dr! Very nice mate. Auto or manual? Thanks Darren. How's the RB30DET beast coming along? What's the ETA on large turbo fit and tune? pokie, Haha hey don't worry I only know what 1/2 of it does. -

Interior tidy up -
To the lads (and ladies) that still remember me... I've been very quiet lately and if I haven't replied to PM's that's simply due to a total lack of SAU time My apologies But I had a few spare minutes so I though I'd put a pic or two up. I've done a bit of an interior 'tidy-up' and more engine detailing 'things'.
-
I noticed a very nice and tidy black R34 GT-t that lives ~30M up the road from us. I've seen it a dozen of so times in the last few weeks. Golden Grove area, black R34 2dr, polished or chromed dished 18's (nice ones not the ugly as hell chrome rims) and a large polished single exhaust tip. If the owner is on here - nice car mate.
-
Surely they wouldnt cancel the event (outright) due to timing equipment issues? Postpone maybe, but not cancel! I certainly hope not. I'm on target to have a 'slightly larger' new turbo and manifold combo in and tuned... but a delay in the event wouldn't hurt Congrats on the R31 results Darren. Shaun was telling me it's a bit hard to tame even on the ETs! Fill it up with 110 and there's 400+ to be had. G'day Martin. You must have a new mob' or too busy at the moment? I sms'd you the other day (re a Feb06 Hot4s hose article - 'Can you write in to tell us the odd part out, though?') I can! And most of the 'odd parts' are long gone Hey Matt, if you can do better than 12.74 in the TD Patrol I'll buy you a beer mate - make that a carton
-
Congratulations Mel and Pawley on the birth of little Luka If it were possible I'd give you 8hrs straight solid sleep as a late Xmas present... I know you'd LOVE IT! About the only negative I can see by switching to LS1 power would be the "possible" extra fuel costs... depends on the right foot Did you consider a WRX Wagon, or even a Forester XT? Subaru reliability, excellent load carrying and easy on Mel's back to put Luka in his seat, reasonable grunt and excellent grip wet or dry - nice and safe for Mum and Luka. Finding a good one for the right price would be the hard part.
-
Haha thanks Madaz Yeah I'm one of the old buggers. I've been around the Skyline scene for a while (about '95). I was one of the original members of the Skylinesdownunder forums... well before SAU existed. Yeah true. I hope so!
-
Yeah I know what you mean Will. I had a look at the MT Drag Radial while waiting to picking up some bits from Outlaw Speed Shop the other day. They look awesome and with that tread pattern they may even handle a bit of minimal road use - even trundling around in the wet perhaps? How much for a set (rear only) of 275/40/17? With the money I've spent on the car over the last 6mths I probably shouldn't - but the rears need upgrading/replacing this year anyway
-
Yes mate things have changed quite a bit over the last few years. Bugalugs (Matt) sold his 33 almost 3 years ago - haven't seen him since I 'moved on'. Congrats to Erica and John with their first bub! And Mel and Pawley too! As for me, I've done more modifying on my 33 over the last 6-12mths than I EVER have Add to that the amount of house renos and other commitments and I just don't seem to have enough time in my day Lack of legitimate forum access during work hours sucks too. I've got a few more weeks of mods to go and then the car will be ready to hit the road again - so I 'might' be able to make the cruise. My 33 has covered more kays on the back of tilt bed trucks than under it's own power in recent months - mod related not breakages.
