I didn't look at many Sparco seats to be honest. I 'was' going to get a set of Recaro SR's (not in tan leather though ) but they're pretty common these days, not to mention a tad too pricey! The new Cobra Daytona series is a big improvement on the earlier stuff. The seat fabric is better quality too.

Turbomax, LMS, tolulene, methyl benzine, HKS 'Drag Gas' (probably ELF), Sunoco, C16, C21 & the like are all acceptable within the HPI reg's. Methanol, alcohol & nitro aren't.
-
No haven't done the LMS tune yet. We've been holding off for a cool day, but as that's just not going to happen we'll do it tomorrow evening.
-
Chris, Ben's Supra "should" be there. The guys are putting in some long days/nights to get it ready in time. The new exhaust manifold was finished last wk. It's a damn tight fit to get the 1000+hp turbo, w'gate, & huge dump pipe in there! Unfortunately the custom rods couldn't make it in time from the US so they've put together an interim engine package.

After much deliberation I've decide to replace my stock seats with a new set of these (in the colour shown) - If anyone is after a set of stock GTS25t seats give me a yell. Mine are in good nick (some wear on driver RHS).

I'm pretty sure the 4,6 & Rotary Nationals were on the 14th Feb well before Drag Combat chose that date. DC doesn't worry me, but the 40+'c temps do! IF THERE'S A GOD UP THERE CAN HE PLEASE MAKE THE TEMP ON SAT MID 20's!

Bl4ck32, I've used: Southern Steering & Suspension down south - Whiteline dealer/know their stuff Web Suspension on Nth East Rd - did aligning myself, but their equipment is top notch Bridgestone on Gouger St - The current aligning was done by Laurie & the boys, Laurie no longer works there though, pity as he is a bloody top bloke Joel, Sure am mate Promotion @ work & a tidy bonus helped I've still got a few bits to be bought & fitted, seats etc... The Missus actually asked me last night...... Her - "So what other things do you want to do to the car?" Me - "Ahhhh..... quite a lot, why do you ask?" Her - "Do you want a bigger turbo? 'Cause isn't the one you've got old & not good enough?" Me - "YES I'd love a new turbo!!!!" Her - "You've already spent enough for now" Me - *under my breath* - 'damn it!' GT-R seats will keep me happy in the short term -

Top stuff Lach', love your work. Yep you got my boost level correct mate (1.3bar) You know I like that pink so much I might just paint the car in it Hope the carpet did the trick Steve? Yeah good idea re the SAU dyno day. I'd say Shaun/Boost Worx would be happy to host it. I'll have a chat to Shaun today (7Feb) & see what he thinks. I'd suggest waiting a month or so till temps come down a touch. Then I'll whack some ELF in & cheat ...... J/K Mate I'd love to go bigger in the turbo dept, but $$$ are needed in other areas atm, so what I've got will do for now. I agree that my CR & response are surprising! Fresh engine perhaps? Headwork. Port matching manifolds. Could be a combo of things? Plus the turbo itself. slyr33, To help with traction I have: Standard shocks - with king spring lows Adjustable rear camber kit - set to minimal neg' for a flatter contact patch Sub frame bushes (pineapples) - set for traction RE540S rubber - my normal rubber, not really that good for drag use but I'll see how I go. I really don't have big goals for quick ET's, I'm actually more interested in my TS, & having fun -
Disconnect this sensor and gain POWER!

I can confirm Steve's info. We have played with the VCT quite a few times & found the stock 4,500rpm switch off point to be pretty much spot on. The VCT is switched on @ 1500rpm & off @ 4,500rpm. Keeping VCT switched on higher in the rev range (via aftermarket ECU) loses 10-15rwkw top end, as you'd expect. Turning it off sooner loses mid range. For a gain to be made by having VCT disabled it will mean poor bottom end torque Unless you have upgraded inlet/exhaust cams dialed in spot on. -

Yeah Lach', Steve & I are just stuffing about, but keep the comparo' graphs coming mate, they're excellent. Steve, Very true re Trent (& Irish). I hope you don't mind mate, but I swapped your 9kw for a Niki 650, pretty much a straight swap really -

I hope you don't mind Steve I borrowed your 9kw to add to my lawnmower. Grass won't be growing back for a few wks. Hey I got ripped too! Lach used my 17psi tune not the 19psi one Gimme the 19psi tune you bastards, I need to exploit my strengths over you higher CR stockies hahaha But in all seriousness I agree with Lachlan, it's great to see so many 250-300+rwkw Skylines in Adelaide Makes it better for our more modestly power brethren, 'cause now potential traffic light opponents won't be too sure if they're about to get nailed or not And now back to the thread....... talking about ME & MY STUFF j/k I have to give a HUGE thanks to our very own Steve for setting up a damn fine deal! I now have ~35L of ELF LMS fuel in jerry cans sitting here ready for tuning, & then the Nats ELF LMS is 102RON unleaded that was developed as control fuel for LeMans. A number of rally teams use the stuff too. The 102RON doesn't sound like a big deal but it sure packs a lot more oomph than it would seem! Thanks to Steve I got in contact with Trent from Autobarn Mile End & he gave me 35L of LMS for the grand total of $0 Autobarn are now (or soon will be) selling LMS for ~$6.50L (35L x $6.50 ='s $227 for free - I'm happy:) ). My car will be sporting Autobarn Mile End sponsorship for the nats as a thankyou. LMS is not cheap, but considering the gains, & how healthy it is for your engine, it's not a bad alternative to Nitrous. A couple of real world examples of how much extra grunt LMS can unlock: Martin's HPI Soarer went from 288rwkw to 336rwkw from additional timing & boost all possible due to the LMS. The engine showed signs of less heat build up & NO sign of any detonation on the PFC. The 10sec Morpowa Lancer was able to gain nearly 100kw via tuning on ELF LMS! *Note* this was info from the engine builder. The downside to ELF LMS (apart from cost - although not too bad as a once in a while drag/track day) is the massive headspins it was giving me while driving around town with it in the back of the Liberty! I also have an Apexi wastegate actuator ready to go on. It came off an Apexi AX53B60 kit & although I don't know what bar it's rated at, I have found info from Apexi that confirms it is, "strengthening spring internal organs actuator", so if it doesn't fix my boost drop I can always have it surgically implanted to strengthen my organ Once again thanks to Steve for teeing up that deal (didn't cost a cent!) Last but not least, I "MAY" have a deal on some R34 GT-R seats! Hopefully in ~2-3wks -

Bl4ck32, Very nice mate How long till the motor is ready to go? B-man, How much longer till we see your beast making 300++rwkw? It'd have to be ready for tuning soon wouldn't it? My turbo is a bit of a bitsa. Garrett bush bearing T3/T4 .60 comp .64 ex. It has a big comp wheel shoved into the .60 housing & the ex wheel has been back cut. Those in the know have had a look & estimate ~450-500hp potential? Still using stock, port matched HPC coated, manifold. -

Here's Steve's lastest dyno run *Note* - he has since made further changes & gained MORE power! -
Nice choice Matt. Front end styling is much better on the S2. Insurance premium sounds fair.

Yeah understand re lots on plate, & $$$ adding up. 400R bar will look excellent & slightly better airflow into FMIC. I figure that the actuator is the easiest thing to check, & the Apexi one is free so why not give it a shot. I won't know what boost its rated at till we test it though. Getting the actuator tomorrow then organise with Shaun to fit/trial. Tomorrow arvo maybe? It may well be manifold/housing restrictions. Grepin's results seem to support this theory. Then again he has an HKS actuator! See how we go I guess. -

Excellent stuff Lach ! Thanks for that. Looks like we could both do with an upgraded actuator, yes? I have an Apexi one lined up (get it tomorrow) I'm hoping it's 1.0bar rated. If that doesn't fix the drop in boost then I guess the housing &/or wastegate is the problem? It's amazing how close each of our power curves are given the big differences in set-up! Hurry up & do the Tomei cams so I can see if I should do them too EDIT: Oh yeah, what's the go with using PINK for my p/curve? What are ya' trying to suggest Knore, I couldn't agree more with Lachlan, it really comes down to what ECU suits YOUR needs. I chose Microtech for a number of reasons. Cost, features & local support to name just a few. -
Just had Cam Gear fitted, Results
whatsisname replied to Bass Junky's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hmmm...... not sure if you could do an aftermarket/VCT combo mate? I don't see why you couldn't make the VCT assy bolt onto a HKS/OS Giken/Grex etc... cam gear. As I mentioned above, the stock VCT inlet gear can be adjusted anyway. For a very minor reduction in rotational mass it's hardly worth the changing to an aftermarket gear, unless you wanted both the gears to look sexy. -

The one for sale is the MT 4 line handset (holds 2 maps). Mine is the 2 line LT (holds 4 maps) The 4 line HS scrolls real data time across the screen, whereas the 2 line has a stationary display of selected real time data. -

Thanks guys. The credit goes to quite a few different people, including a number on this very forum knore, The latest Microtech LT series ECU is ~$1300-1400 (rough guess here) & the LT series handset (can do programming, basic logging, real time data & 4 maps) is ~$160 I paid $145 a yr ago. The LT ECU can be tuned via laptop & is the prefered method as it allows more tuning options. The mid range power is fantastic on the road, but it does require a bit of sensible throttle control. -

Very good question mate. Yeah I have had a stab at the average power (sydneykid style) I know the power curve stops before 180km/h but I'm guessing that the power would drop at a similar rate hence I can estimate power at 180km/h mark (it should improve in this area once we get the boost to hold). So based on the above my average power reads as follows: 3,600 - 213wkw 4,600 - 272rwkw 5,600 - 280rwkw 6,600 - 245rwkw (boost drop takes effect here - "should" improve with new actuator) Average power ='s 252rwkw EDIT: Given that my cams are still stock (so far ) I'm very happy the bulk of the power is btw 3,500 to 6,500. We all know rev's are far less kind on a motor than boost (providing the tuning is good). A nice set of Tomei VCT friendly Poncams should just about do it. -

I've gone through the exhaust cam gear process twice now, old engine & new one. Both times we've found 4' retard has made ~10rwkw gain & NO loss anywhere in the rev range. We have also played around with the stock VCT inlet gear (can be adjusted from factory) but haven't found too much extra. -

All depends on the right foot mate. I got 260k's from 1/2 a tank during the mild post 1000k run-in tune. I'd be pretty happy with ~400k from a tank with mixed driving (cruise/WOT etc...) Heavy driving & I'd guess 200-250k? Can't have everything Once I've done a few k's I'll post a report on economy. -

We did another tune today. Added an extra 1' timing. Got a nice even 280rwkw on 1.3bar. The wastegate is creeping up top so it drops to ~1.1bar. After we sort out the actuator it should hold boost & make a few more kw up top. Dyno sheet to follow soon. Only downside so far is that even when hot the RE540S's no longer maintain any traction This on 1.1bar road tune. Haven't tried 1.3bar yet. The LT12 handset is able to hold 4 maps, so they are set as follows: 1. 'Valet' - 3000rpm limit / 3500rpm cut 2. 1.1bar road tune 3. 1.3bar road tune 4. may become ELF LMS drag tune
