  1. Thanks. The plan has been to take pic's of each stage as it goes back together. So far I've got pic's of the damaged cast piston (#1), the new CP pistons, completed head, completed bottom end & now these ones. Next will be the complete engine with all ancillaries fitted as it goes in.... well that's the plan anyway. Hopefully if all goes well it'll be back in the car in ~1wk.
  2. Thanks mate. I chose CP's.
  3. Sorry about the size....
  4. Steve, Oops missed that bit! Thanks for pointing that out. I take it stock RB30E pistons are pretty damn good then!?
  5. Out of interest exactly what type of piston are you using & what (if anything) has been done to them to cope with the power level you have to run 10's?
  6. Out of interest exactly what type of piston are you using & what (if anything) has been done to them to cope with the power level you have to run 10's?
  7. Well I see the Tassie scene isn't as 'up & coming' as first thought. Oh well I enjoyed cruisin' around the state in the old mans RX8.
  8. Matt, Thanks for the offer of Avgas & so on. I'm not sure what brew to use at this stage, perhaps some Elf LMS? I'll give 300 a shot, the boost level won't be a problem that's for sure. 300rwkw is certainly possible on stock internals, well over 300 is possible as we've seen, it's more the longevity at that level on a regular basis that's the issue. Even with an excellent tune I don't think you'd see the stock pistons (especially 10 yr old series 1 RB25DET) cope with ~300rwkw everyday. I think it's fair to say, based on the number of RB25DET piston failures I've now seen/know of, that above 250rwkw & you are into "potential" danger territory. Steve, Yeah I'd love to bolt the big HKS turbo on but only if Matt was in a giving mood Cash is all gone after this round of mods. Tony, Yep 8.0 is getting down there in CR but with that low a CR 20+psi & quite a bit of timing won't be a problem.
  9. Naa Hip slicks is cheating. Steve, Yeah it doesn't surprise me your pistons are in good nick mate, just about all the ones James showed me were quite healthy looking except for the ring lands (some had 2 or 3 sections cracked). The way I see it there's no need to worry about your pistons, if they let go then it's time to go to the next stage. If they hold on for a yr or so then it's a bonus I plan to make the dud one into a nice little display, gotta' have a few bloke things in the display unit beside all the girl trinkets I'm sure James can spare a few for ash tray purposes. The plan is to see what it'll put out in everyday trim & then go for an all out big boost & exotic fuel combo. So yeah well over 20psi should be on the cards. I doubt it'll make much more than mid to high 200's as the turbo isn't up to the task I don't think. Should be fun anyway Matt, I dunno' mate? Not much. Once I pick them up I'll let you know & you can pick out which ones you want
  10. G'day Clint, Yeah mate I'm so glad I didn't let it go! I'm hangin' to get it back on the road, & even more so to hit the track again! $800 is bloody excellent! Even after a full rebuild using quality components it'll still be a low cost motor. 300+rwkw of 2.5L in a 32 GTS-t is a great combo I'll let you know how things go re Nisspeed. So far I've got nothing but huge praise for James (Nisspeed). He's got a lot of knowledge & experience with performance engine builds, epsecially Nissan stuff (surprise surprise ). He spent ~5hrs going over everything about my rebuild with me last Friday in the workshop. He's kept me informed about the progress of parts. He's taken on every little extra I've requested. He charges sensible prices for top quality work. His motto is built it right the first time & it'll make good reliable power. And he is keen to make up custom parts to suit my requirements for just the cost of the materials! Hip, Haha, no death wish dude, just the aim of a 12sec daily driver. Ok I'll tell the truth. You see I bought a 30psi boost gauge ages back & I always felt I was missing out by only using 15psi of it, so soon I'll be getting my moneys worth Tony, Yeah I'm expecting a slightly doughy bottom end, I can live with that. As long as it's on full song by 4000-4500 & has a healthy spread of power/torque to ~7500 I'll be happy enough.
  11. I actually have a few better pic's of the CP pistons but they don't want to load up? The idea behind the 8.0:1 CR is to allow 20+psi boost & more timing on pump fuel all day every day. Well that's the idea anyway Other engine/turbo mods limited to the follow basics; I already have a T3/T4 combo (exact housings wheel trims I'm not sure?) The cams will remain stock (have adj' c/gear already) The head is just getting a basic clean up (will stick to 7500rpm limit) Stock manifolds - with a basic port match TRUST head gasket - stock thickness The rest is just your usual basic rebuild freshen up Then the new fuel rail & 550 to 600cc injectors (Bosch most likely) Everthing else was already in place in the pre rebuild stage (ie. ECU, EBC, intake, exhaust etc...)
  12. Another -
  13. Here's what is replacing the old pistons - Along with a Trust H/G (not O'ring now) New fuel rail/injectors (top feed & still using the stock plenum - yes is can be done)
  14. Another old piston pic - *The marking on the top of the piston is just from sratching against something on the bench. Which has removed some of the carbon build up.*
  15. Now I know plenty of people have made big power on stock RB25DET internals but having had a good look at the cast RB25DET pistons (in fact many examples of them) I'm amazed that there aren't more failures! Ringlands are the number 1 point of failure on all the pistons I recently looked at ( lots & all RB25DET!). As an aside the state of my engine internals were bloody excellent when it was pulled down! The pistons are good (apart from 1 with a 2-3" section of RL missing) nil detonation damage, all rods perfect, bores perfect, crank etc... Basically there is ZERO traces of any detonation at all. Attached is a pic of the failed piston-
  16. Andy, My pistons have arrived FINALLY! So I'd say the car will be back on the road, run in & the injector/exhaust mods done ready for the Dec meet Erica, Thank dudette. Yeah the little one is just the best thing ever And guess what her fav toys are... ? CARS! :uh-huh: Phew indeed! Matt, I really hope things are working out ok for you re the car situation mate. Shitty thing to happen to you & I know what it feels like Yep no prob's you can come for a spin anytime I'm not selling unless I REALLY have to but you'll be the first to know.
  17. Haha naa mate all is well on the home front, better than ever in fact I'm getting a promotion @ work plus a bit of a lump sum so we get to buy the house & I get to keep the cars
  18. Thanks Joolz/Andy Andy, Hehehe the coastal roundabout cruises are always good value Yeah mate I'm hanging to get out to AIR again :uh-huh: especially with the new night time "real street car" format. I remember way back having a big chat with Anna about running a Wednesday night "street car" summer format - & whaddaya know! Congrat's on the 12.7 too mate. The S15 is a such a great little package. Near enough to 200rwkw, easy 12's & 1.8 60's all on the stock turbo & street rubber. The LS1 lads are starting to runs some solid times now too! Henry into the 12's NA & Rob (Blue SC CV8 Munro) with 11.8
  19. Haha you guys crack me up EP (sorry dude can't recall your first name?) , There's much in common btw the RB26 & the Astron 2.6, they both have the same basic internal combustion engine method of operation for starters! I don't think Steve has a chance against my Sigma. It's one of the extremely common low compression models that came from the factory with both HPWVSS & HPSWR options - High Performance Worn Valve Stem Seals & High Performance Seriously Worn Rings.
  20. Baahhh, you guys have got no chance if I bring out the Sigma! 2.6 litres of raw ground pounding ggggrunt, well, at least 30 or so rwkw up to 3k & then she's as breathless as an 80yr smoker with a collapsed lung
  21. Thanks for the kind words guys I'm REALLY looking forward to being back on the road cruising with you all again. As for drag strip action...... I'd love to be able to make the 15th Nov AIR meet but the way things are going I don't like my chances From the looks of things (Andrew into the 12's for starters) I've got a lot of catching up to do!!!
  22. My car is the red (well burgundy really) series 1 that's been sitting there since May! The plates read ***** 6, you'll know what I'm getting at if you saw it I can't bloody wait to get it back on the road! And give it a lot of much needed TLC. It looks like a dirty ol' POS atm I'm STILL waiting on my CP forgies to come from the US. The big news (well it is for me) is I'm keeping the car & will be back on the drag strip as soon as it's run in & ready to go.
  23. I spoke with Ivan yesterday & thankfully insurance will cover everything. It's a sad fact of life that there are people out there low enough to do this kind of thing. But the really sad thing is there are people who support this kind of activity by buying the stolen gear no-questions-asked I must say my heart skipped a beat for a sec when I first heard the news, seeing as how my car has been sitting in the workshop for months.
  24. Sleeper!? Maybe in terms of pace/speed but certainly not in terms of eye candy
