Nothing to do with cars- but worth a look.

Lachlan, Yeah mate, bodyboarding/surfing is much cheaper than modified Skyline ownership! A top of the range bodyboard (not a kiddies K-mart cheapy) is ~$500-600. When the car goes I'll be getting myself a BZ Hubb signature model ($599). Just bought a new Manta ConceptXP6 that was $470. I usually have 3-4 boards for different conditions. A top of the range 4/3mm wettie - ~$500-600 Padded travel board cover - ~$150-200 Legropes - $40ea Bodyboard fins - ~$80-100 As with my boards, I like to have a few of each of the above items. At $4,000 to get completely set-up, it's still much much cheaper than the car! One thing though, it's much easier to learn to drive a car than it is to learn to bodyboard! I mean "really" bodyboard, not flap around in the whitewater. Timmmayyy, Naa not Apexi, it'd have to be Trust The bodyboard lads would be thinking Trust was a new player on the BB scene -

Chris, I didn't even click about the Chris Edwards thing. Very freaky! I'll be surfing most weekends, so just let me know when you're keen Joel, 'head back in'? You sure you don't wear a skirt? -
I just remembered which forum member had the GTS25t, running a PFC, that let go just like mine. Killer T Have a read of my posts in the later part of this thread! http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...ghlight=rebuild I had a strange feeling that things were going to go wheels up on me! Nothing was wrong with my car/engine at the time, nothing at all. I always seem to be a step ahead of myself Wish I could put that to good use somehow?

Yep Greg, RPM are doing the rebuild. And yes 3 x RB25DET rebuilds in recent mths (all due to similiar failures). RPM was chosen by the respective owners to carry out the rebuilds. Not because they (RPM) were responsible for them! Just wanted to make that VERY clear to all The PFC has not saved some from the same fate I know of 3 PFC equiped GTS25t's that have had failures of the same kind. In fact one of the WA guys on SAU (who's running a PFC) had a rebuild recently for the exact same thing. Not being familiar with the PFC knock detection, I guess it comes down to how quickly the driver reacts to the warning? For example, how quickly would the damage be done @ 7000rpm in 4th? It wouldn't take much to cause a failure under those conditions. By the time the knock detection had giving a warning, & you'd noticed it (I'm usually focused on the road/track doing 7k+ in 4th), the damage is done. But like I said above, I'm not familiar with the PFC knock detection. It uses the engine check light to flash its warning, yes?

Chris, Yeah its a touch like the 'Island. I've ridden the 'Island a few times when it been in the 8' range. The Zone is another reef that has the same kinda' power. I've not ridden Shipsterns yet. I've seen it. Watched plenty of footage. Listened to the old man tell me some full-on scary hold down stories. But I've yet to ride it. The old man put it to me that we should head out there in the boat, while we were chatting on the phone the other night, & it was a done deal There's actually quite a few top quality reef/point set-ups in the SE of Tassie (it is an island after all). I've ridden almost all of these other spots many times, some in the 10-12' range, but none of them compares to Shipsterns! It can hold 20+' & often gets over 10-12'. There are huge bolders right in front of the take off & the wave actually builds in size as it goes down the line (ie 6ft becomes 8ft which becomes 15ft!). More Shippies - http://www.netbb.com/files/video/shipsterns_jan03.mov http://www.fluidzone.com/frozenhole/newgal...08/sub809an.gif http://www.fluidzone.com/frozenhole/newgal...08/sub808an.gif From above - This is it on a nice day - And a not so nice day - I'll ring you in the coming wks re going for a surf too mate. If you're free & still keen? I've been hitting Waits a bit lately. Had 5-6' Waits point on the long weekend with only 3 of us on it for 2hrs (all boogers). Had a few late arvo ones last Sunday too (had to wait until the stand-up comp finished). Knights has been pretty average Wrong swell direction mostly. The mid has had a few 3ft sessions. Tommorrow/Thurs is looking good on the mid. I'll probably be heading down to VH again early Sunday (Sat if rain postpones the AIR day). -

Pretty solid looking wave isn't it On par with anything Hawaii has to offer. Just a shit load colder! -
As the thread title says, this has nothing to do with cars. Now as it's looking more & more like I'll be out of the Skyline game for a while I've got myself a new challange. Forget 11-12sec 1/4's. I'm heading down home (Tassie) in Sept to surf this - http://www.surftasmania.com/mov/SternJan03.mov This wave is not far from my old's place. It's called Shipsterns Bluff. The best way to get to it is via boat, & lucky for me the old man is a pro fisherman so I've got that covered. Now for the hard part, getting fit enough to handle a beating that 'Shippies' dishes out!

You've just hit the nail on the head Joel. -
I paid $310 (255/40/17) & $280 (235/45/17) for my RE540S's.

Yep your right mate, the LT12 doesn't have individual cyl control. What you've explained, re 6 running hotter & leading to failure, sounds quite feasible. I'll post up the exact findings when the motor is apart. -

So the engine can handle more boost & more power, with a bigger safety margin than before. -

How about having a blown motor due to no6 leaning out. -
Thanks Matt. Yeah mate I'll be there to watch you guys have all the fun Do you remember that ANZAC day cruise Matt? I'll bet that's when she let go. It wasn't until yesterday that any symptoms showed up! I'd driven it quite a few times since that day with zero indication of any problems. Ahh well, at least I'll get a chance to see how the car performs before it goes to a new owner. Sometime in Jul/Aug lookout for me at a street meet. Fresh motor, built to handle 18psi & aiming for 11's
-
Well I could just get it running again, but I "may" end up keeping it? It's a very slim chance but you never know? Then it'll have been a waste of a good chance to get it done right! I don't care how much someone wants to TRY & buy it for, I'm in no hurry to sell it I'm not gunna' just go, "yeah ok sure you can have it for 20k". If it takes 6-12mths till the right buyer comes along, so be it. If the right buyer never comes along.... oh damn, guess I'll have to keep it
-
Thanks heaps guys MattR, I'll certainly take up that offer of passenger down the track mate. TIMMMAYYY, Well the way I see it, it has to be rebuilt anyway. I'm not keen to "flog" it off with a dud motor. So if it has to have a rebuild, it makes sense to do it properly. That way the new owner can see I've looked after the car in ALL areas. The difference btw a standard parts rebuild vs. upgraded aftermarket parts isn't a huge amount anyway. I'll still have the car for a few months after it's done so I'd like to enjoy it during that time too. Maybe I'm a dying breed? But I'd rather have the car running to full 100% potential when I sell it. That way the price I sell it for is justified. You can buy GTS25t's for very cheap these days, including seriously modified examples. I'd like to get a decent price for mine considering the level of modifications carried out, the excellent condition & how many small custom details I've done to it.
