  1. Alternator - coolant? WTF! Coolant & the alternator don't mix well dude!
  2. I'll put money on it being your water pump. Check the water pump, there is an inspection hole that will allow coolant to slowly leak when the pump seals shit themselves (telling you it's time to replace the pump). With the undertray in place you'll never be able to pin-point the source of the leak. The tray comes off easily. If the pump is the cause you're up for a new one, & you may as well replace the timing belt while you're there. You need to take the same bits off - so why do it twice? New pump from Nissan (same as RB30 VL pump) - $90-100 Timing belt - $80-90 Labour - ~$150 (dunno' exactly on this one?) I very much doubt it'll be a major problem, so don't stress too much
  3. Nice power & torque curves. Should be quick if you can get the power down.
  4. Erica, What about if the job involved the blue uniform, without actually joining up :whip:
  5. Dave, A 10! I think I need you to drive the car for that to happen. Plus have the Nitto's on. A small shot of Nitrous (50hp) to help off the line would be nice. But like Andrew, I won't be doing anything like that until the internals & injectors are upgraded. Enrico, On dry straight road I use to get w/spin in 1 & 2 (occasionally 3rd) at anything up to 110km/h. Suspension mods (including pineapples) & good quality rubber has made a HUGE difference! I still get w/spin if the tyres aren't warm but once they are it rarely catches me out.
  6. Andrew, Once again, the same as me - FULL road trim. Driven on the strip EXACTLY as it is on the street. Spare & jack, stereo, all seats/trim, pump fuel, legal rubber, the lot. I even make a point of having a full tank (for weight over the rear). Not quite 50-60kg of stereo/sound deadening though. Yep mate you made the right choice 245/50/16's are the better option, more sidewall & all. I only want 275/40/17's so it looks all nice with 17's front & back Plus I'll use them on the street. Breakages suck the big one I felt for you when I heard about the shaft failure. Good story to tell the kiddies though
  7. Rob/Steve, Yeah thought the cat would've been a big factor. Dave, Sorry to postwhore so badly Getting back on topic..... My guess is 196.83rwkw
  8. Whatsisname too hard to spell? I bet you say whatsisname more than you realise. Everybody that you can't remember the name of is called 'whatsisname':D Whatsisname is also the name of a character in the Magic Faraway Tree, for those old enough to remember the book/s. WA, NSW, SA, VIC, TAS... I peruse them all. I've lived in most states of OZ I don't consider any of them as my home state, they're all home! I'll often leave the PC still logged onto a particular forum section too. So I'm 'on', but not there. Opposite to my brain most days, it's there but not 'on'. If there's nothing happening in the SA forum then it does indeed get boring. Cheers, Matt
  9. Rob, Very low figures for a healthy stocky (97rwkw) on the "average" Dyno Dynamics dyno. I'm guessing you'd be the guy that wrote in to HPI asking Martin, why so low? 175rwkw with your current mod's sounds about right. From 97rwkw to 175rwkw (78rwkw for the lazy) from an exhaust, FMIC & a bit of extra boost. Something wasn't right with the car to start with. Very restritive &/or blocked cat? I witnessed a heavily tweaked GTS25t go from 219rwkw to 282rwkw after nothing more than the removal of its nasty compliance fitted cat & cat back section.
  10. Thanks for the feedback guys - very handy! Andrew, My car has the same power delivery as yours & R31Nismoid’s. As you said, it's very tricky to launch. I've had the same problems. Dump @ 3-3.5k & it bogs down. Dump @ 4.5+k & it hooks up for a sec, then blazes the tyres. I've yet to be able to do the, "clutch slip feed power on launch", as the old clutch gave up the ghost at the slightest hint of me slipping it The new clutch is up to the task no prob. Just need to practice on the strip now. Yeah I knew the 540's weren't the greatest drag rubber (stiffest sidewall R compound there is!). I got them as they're well priced over here in Adelaide (paid $280 - 235/45/17 & $310 - 255/40/17) & they're great on the street. I've got a contact for 555R's - $425 for 275/40/17
  11. Roy, It's a bit easier for me as my car isn't a daily driver. So if I am driving it, it's never out of my sight. Unless it's in the garage under lock & key. This has theft covered. The RTA/police issue is of more concern to me. Hence the velcro to quickly pull it off & pop it under the dash. My best advice - mount it with a solid, yet quickly removeable method.
  12. Andrew, Were you running the D01J's? If so, what launch technique did you employ? What sort of burnout, tyre pressures, slip or dump, rev's etc. Thanks mate My 540's have yet to give their best. Thanks to a shot clutch (now upgraded). 11's will need a very hard launch (low 1.9 60) NT555R's will do it. My next rear rubber will be the same.
  13. Congrats Merli Good stuff! Great to see a fellow GTS25t break the sub 13 barrier. Gotta be happy to crack into the 12's for the first time. High 11's is possible with that mph. I've got the same top end (115.83 mph - best so far). Just need to get my damn 60ft into the same 2.0 range as you.
  14. *Homer voice* - Mmmmm burnouts :burnout: My clutch was a little more than glazed. What little was left of the friction material was well fried!
  15. What's the average rwkw figure for a stocky on the SST dyno?
  16. Dave, I was thinking maybe your stock clutch was just starting to give up the ghost (not noticeable at the time of the 13.8) & upon upgrading the new clutch gave that little extra each shift. I should've gone with a light weight flywheel. Oh well, next time.
  17. More speed cameras, new tougher laws & large fines are the ONLY answer - Why? Because these things make the government "appear" to be committed to road safety whilst reaping the revenue they raise. Driver ed programs, major road improvements, tiered licence systems & the like don't make money they only cost more to set up. They “could” make money – but nothing in comparison to the $$$ that roll in from cameras! The state governments would budget for revenue raised from long weekend (ie Easter) road blitzes, before they've occurred. It doesn't matter how much the statistics are manipulated; the plain fact is road tolls have hardly changed since the introduction of speed cameras.
  18. Ben, FM901's are a great tyre. Compared to ZE502's they'll feel like semi-comps
  19. Greg, Not exactly a PFC Commander, but.... I've mounted my Microtech LT handset just to the right of the steering column, just below the level of the factory instrument binnacle. That way I can monitor the info real time with a quick glance down (as you would the speedo/tacho) or scroll through the screens with ease. I've used good quality adhesive backed velcro that holds on like buggery! If needed, I can pull the handset off & hide it behind the dash. Run the cable up the top of the kick panel, along behind the dash (cable tied out of the way) & then the only section of cable visable is the small length from just below the bottom of the dash to the H/S (~ 25-30cm). I got plenty of velcro & cable ties if you need any?
  20. Totally off topic - The "mostly stock" in my sig' is just a j/k
  21. Can't say as I agree with this statement Dave. What about A/FR's, boost response curve, power & torque curves under WOT, comparing before/after power & torque gains & so on... Sure, these things "can" be done in other ways (on road, datalogger) but the dyno is a far safer & repeatable environment, that doesn't cost that much to use & doesn't require a large outlay for the average Joe. I do agree that a dyno sheet on its own, used to "prove" xyz car has xxxrwkw, isn't worth much, unless you like to compete in dyno shootouts. Nothing wrong with a friendly dyno shootout Can't be all that bad if the mainstream Summernats HP Hero's get a kick outta' it Oh yeah! The biggest reason I disagree with you mate? A4 paper is far too rough on the arse cheeks. So I’m told Matt
  22. No prob's Al.
  23. These new laws WILL be passed. Nothing different to what has already been in place in other states for a number of yrs. Much the same as the "new" 50km/h zones in SA.
  24. Yep, good call rev! Certainly won't hurt. Just in case anyone was confused. rev means - "RESET". Although the ECU probably could do with a REST
