  1. My wheel came back looking 100%. Very pleased with the results Thanks for the advice John. Anyone needing a rim repaired should give these guys a look - Extensive Wheel Services.
  2. Sounds like a plan Steve! Just need to get the ball rolling. Easier said than done usually What we need is someone on-side with a bit of weight, in the form of high rank I vaguely recall a similar attempt to use the RAAF Richmond strip for high-speed runs. One of the biggest hurdles, apart from liability issues, was the strip always being open to air traffic on weekends! Oops! Looks like I've hijacked the thread. Sorry guys
  3. Bit of a generalisation dude I NEVER let anyone touch my car unless I'm there involved in, or watching, the work progressing on my car. Suspension set-up & alignment included. It can be very disturbing to see just how substandard work "could've" been carried out @ some places I've been! Big franchise chains or little backyard places alike. I've had quite a few suspension changes & alignments on my cars over the yrs. From these experiences I'd say some workshops will give you a McDonalds - "Mc alignment" whereas others will align exactly how you want/need it (drag, circuit, all round etc) taking very good care in the process. Laurie @ Bridgestone in Gouger St falls into the later category. http://www.btc.net.au/gougerst/ Southern Steering & Suspension in Noarlunga are another I'd recommend. These guys are both a Whiteline dealer & Bridgestone centre. Bridgestone Tyre Centre - Noarlunga 10 Goldsmith Drv Noarlunga Centre Adelaide 5168 Phone: 08 8326 3433 I’ve not had any involvement with Steve Cramp & Manta Racing but I have heard positive reports. 4. It "might" be possible to arrange? The logistics & redtape would be a pain, but worth it if we got the greenlight. I've seen it done before on other bases I've been posted to. They've used the RAAF Edinburgh strip for V8SC vs F/A18 runs. The airstrip is 8400ft (2560m) long & 150ft (45m) wide. It should be enough for a quick legal 300+k blast. I might ask the right people a few questions.
  5. I'll 2nd Freebaggin's choice of Laurie at Bridgestone, Gouger Street. Laurie & his lads are enthusiastic, thorough & have a solid background in both drag & circuit racing. His prices are very good too.
  6. It never ceases to amaze me how stupid people can be Unlicenced. Carrying an existing defect. Uninsured. Go as a passenger in a mate's car, but for @#$! sake whatever you do, don't get behind the wheel & then drive like an idiot! HOPEFULLY Paul (R32 owner) has insurance? If so his insurance company will process the claim & he'll receive a pay out within a matter of wks. The fact that Paul has the name of the driver responsible "should" place the "at fault" squarely on the VL driver!? In other words no loss of no-claim rating. This will depend on the insurance company however. I had a guy crash my '91 MR2 I was in the process of selling about 5yrs ago (on the test drive with me in the passenger seat!) He didn't have a car at the time, & therefore no insurance. I claimed it on my policy (16k+ repair bill) & because I had the guys details & police report I was able to prove it wasn't "my" fault - no loss of no-claim bonus (I didn't have rating protection either). As I said above, hopefully Paul has insurance!? That way he can move on quickly & his insurance company can do what he pays them to. If he doesn't have insurance....... it becomes a pretty good example of why you NEED to have it regardless of how careful YOU might be! Climbing off my soapbox now
  7. Each to their own. Both good engines. I personally prefer the extra 500cc capacity over extra rev's.
  8. I probably shouldn't be asking these question here, but I will anyway...... Is there any truth to the rumours that the driver/owner of the VL Commodore involved was unlicenced? And that the car had an outstanding defect notice? If the answer is yes to either or both of these, very very stupid move "Most" of us do some crazy things behind the wheel from time to time but to do so unlicenced & under a defect.....WTF!? The judge will NOT be kind! If the rumours are false, I'll delete this ASAP. Most importantly, I hope all involved make a full recovery.
  9. You have to be careful "which" Redline you use for the diff. A number of the Redline gear oils don't contain LSD additives. You can buy a seperate Redline LSD additive to use with any of the non-LSD gear oils. For a road car it's better to use a dedicated LSD oil. I run Redline 75/90 (LSD) gear oil in the diff. As it says on the Redline site, you can use their non-LSD gear oils in LSD diff's for racing applications to increase lock-up & reduced wheelspin. Not recommended for a road car! That's probably why your diff behaved the way it did BoOsTeD_RB26. Barks, I'd recommend you run Shockproof "Lightweight" in the box ("Heavy" if you intend pushing the stock box hard over the 1/4) & 75/90 gear oil for the diff's. http://www.redlineoil.com/products.htm
  10. WTF? I'd be changing that don't to a do. What exactly have you "heard"? I've been using Redline for a while now (both diff & g/box) & after a number of fluid changes I've NEVER had an issue with it. Nor has it caused any problems! The g/box shift quality improvement after switching from VMX80 was bloody impressive! I've used VMX80, Motul , Redline Shockproof & one or 2 other minor brands, Redline has been by far the best. Barks (Ethan_ R32), I'd go so far as to say if you use Redline Shockproof in your g/box you *may* avoid failure of 3rd gear as you start to increase the power levels. Failure of 3rd in a GT-R g/box I hear you saying??? Ask most workshops with GT-R experience & they'll tell you how many modified GT-R's (500hp & up) have blown 3rd gear. A multiplate clutch & grippy tyres will only increase the chance of failure. A good friend of mine just recently had 3rd let go whilst attempting to run a 1/4 @ Eastern Creek in his R33 GT-R (310kw @ wheels).
  11. Hay fever must really effect you!? Might be worth investing in a hay fever injection, one shot will see you right for months no prob's.
  12. I know exactly what you mean! Lots of people watching, helmet on can't hear much & in an uncomfortable seating postion! Just what you need to run good numbers NOT! Oh yeah the wheel will be back on Thursday. $137.50 to have it back good as new! Pricey, but muuuuuuuch cheaper than a replacement! Not that it was that bad anyway
  13. Matt/Jo, Hey why don't you 2 just do a swap (minor cash adjustment paid to Matt) After all they are both "performance" Nissans
  14. That'd be funny if I hadn't heard/read it a 100 times already
  15. Losing a drag race by 2 seconds is a HUGE gap! That's like being lapped a few times in a circuit race. .1 of a second is say ~1 car length over 400m. Note - this is a very rough guide. So don't bloody start all you nit pickers who like to apply the laws of every known theory!
  16. John, I was back behind you @ that point (nursing an o/heated clutch) saw your brake lights flash on & the car get very twitchy! I knew exactly what your hand signal was about a moment or 2 later  :uh-huh:
  17. Sure, here's my attempt............. Left Bunnings car park. Drove around a bit & went home. The end. How'd I do? (J/K) Erica, No prob's with running a girl I would've been happy to give it a go with you on Sir Don Bradman (we were side by side for a bit on the roll) I just figured you were content with cruisin' along? Oh well next time
  18. Matt, You didn't miss too much after you headed home anyway, just a couple of good bits Adrian, Yeah sorry mate Didn't realise I'd left the mob' in the centre console until just before we headed off! jojo, It's not much fun being a passenger with Matt anyway, he drives like my nanna (& she's dead)
  19. I'll give 'em a ring tommorrow. Tell me you've got something lined up for next weekend mate!? A spare shaft, something stronger?
  20. Thanks heaps Henry/Clint I just had a look in the Yellowpages & it lists the 2 places you guys mentioned. They're next door to each other! 307 South Rd & the one you listed Henry @ 308-310.
  21. Thanks Clint. Any idea of the names of these places? Yeah no rim protector is a down side I'm normally very careful, but these things happen. I was thinking ~$100 or less to fix it?
  22. Can anyone recommend a good quality alloy wheel repair place? One of my Volk Rays copped a few decent 3-4" gouges on the edge of the rim the other night (similar to a gutter scape). It's gunna need more than a quick buff & polish But hopefully nothing major? Any ideas on a cost would be handy too. Thanks in advance Matt.
  23. A 14.0 @ 108.5mph ( & fairly average 2.35 60) shows the cars potential! Pitty your 13.6 time slip didn't have a mph, would've been 110 @ least. Lack of traction into 3rd  sure does sound like it was slippery! Bloody good effort for a first time out mate :uh-huh: Its one thing to have the power to run the #'s but it's a whole other ball game to get that power to the ground & run to full potential! But hey isn't drag racing in a 5sp manual street tyre road car as easy as flooring the throttle & holding the wheel straight!?! *NOT* Bummer about John's driveshaft failure Hopefully it's fixed & ready for next weekend?
  24. So how'd everyone go?!?!?! Details! I need details!!! :type: Can you tell I really wanted to go but couldn't? Clint? John? Anyone else?
  25. How'd the pics turn out mate? Nice work by the way! Full tilt driving & taking the happy snaps :uh-huh: That slightly unexpected moment (rear stepping out going uphill) on the Esplanade was interesting  I think a bit of sand across the road was to blame!? The QLD rego'd 32 GT-R (minus rear spoiler), is the owner a forum member? That's a quick car! Nice car CHEEKY. Forgot to mention earlier - A big thanks to Henry (BRUTE) & wife for leading the way from Moana back toward town, I wasn't 100% on which turns to make. Nice drivin' Henry!
