Boost, Power, Pistons & Headgaskets..
whatsisname replied to B-Man's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Am I reading you right here Brendan, your EMS isn't controlling the VVT? If so I sure hope the stock ECU still is, otherwise you're losing a huge amount of bottom end & mid range torque My list of mod's is similar to yours, although I still run the stock injectors (@ higher f/p) & have the stock plenum. Here's a couple of minor power producing mods I do have (that you didn't list) that showed noticeable rwkw increases for me; 1. An adjustable exhaust cam gear set @ 4' retard (bigger gains are had with a larger turbo &/or after a cams upgrade) 2. Replacing the standard clutch fan for a 16" Davies Craig thermo. Actually, upon reading back through this thread, everything Sydneykid has suggested is what I was getting @! Right down to his suggestion of v/good quality synthetic oil. -
I've got a mod that won't get you any power, but won't cost you a cent! What it will do though is allow further mod's down the track....... It's called the no more g/f mod Sorry, couldn't help it!

 I see I'm not the only one jumpin' straight on the forum to see what everyone else thought Thanks John The Southern Expressway run was awesome mate I really never expected that many would turn up! Hopefully everyone else enjoyed themselves!? I sure didn't make it easy for everyone to know what was going on Slightly past "fashionably" late & forgot the 20 cruise maps I had actually made! HEY.....at least it didn't rain this time! Wish I could make it out to AIR for the SM Keep me informed of your progess John! Hope you finally crack that 9 mate :uh-huh:

All the best Clint! Nail that 12 mate :uh-huh:

Yeah like Dotcom said my car is a ricey R33. Sorry to get ya' hopes up Andy, a bit of Viper/GT2 action would be cool though! Hippy sorry I didn't PM you my # I didn't check the forum until just now, after the cruise! ALL, Thanks for comin' along! Hope you all had fun? A big SORRY for arriving late & my lack of organisation (had a few minor dramas b4 hand). I'm sure we lost plenty of you along the way Hopefully those who lost us had fun anyway To be honest I didn't quite expect to have that many starters  Good effort guys/girls! Lots of very nice & bloody quick cars on the cruise too! For anyone who might of been wondering? whatsisname = TRUST 6 Till next time...... Matt

Thanks mate. I've tarted it up a bit more since that pic. With a Greddy plenum (or any front mounted TB manifold) the piping will be easy -

Much thinner than the standard clutch fan. Easier to fit nice big FMIC pipes across the engine bay (inlet & outlet on opposite side style) without fouling the bonnet or stock fan blades. You need to wire the thermo in with a relay, fuse (30A) & thermal s/w. There's plenty of room in the fuse box to fit the extra relay & fuse. Below is an old (poor quality) pic of my inlet piping. The blue silicon Samco hose section actually has piping most of the way through it (nil chance of sucking in!) but a small section is allowed to flex, then the adapter for the K&N is on the other side. -

Guys, Yeah I lost the shroud in my thermo set-up. Hasn't been a problem for my car though. I do intend making a flashy new one (one day ) A few hard laps of a track may be a different story, but I'd be going for a bigger better radiator if I got into track racing. Rev, Flexi tube - Yep ditched that a while back too Nasty looking piece of gear. I run a completely new metal intake pipe (nil AFM & all) From turbo to filter is custom fabricated. -
Adrian, Just remember the word TRUST & you'll find my car mate (it's burgundy too) Exotic dancers - Traditional dancers..... could be interesting if the traditions included nudity  Fingers crossed the weather plays the game tonight too!

I run the same fan J. I fitted mine (16" DC & thermal s/w) new ~1.5-2 yrs back. It keeps the temp's under control even in 40+C traffic no prob's. Normal water temp is ~80'C Have hit a max of 92'c on a 32'c day after hrs worth of dyno tuning runs (hotter in the dyno cell!). -
Looks like a bit of a mixed bag really. Old Skylines?..... Yeah why not! VX/VU SS LS1's X 3-4+ (a few quick ones too!) R34 R33's R32's Old school Skylines S15 Evo4? Dodge Vipers X 2 911 GT2 Niki 650 X 4 + 7 postie bikes (2 with 100hp Nitrous kits) . . . . . . . . . . . . Ok so the last few I made up

Ummm.......good question mate? I can't remember if it was the 215 or 235 stage, definitely not 257 as it was a while ago. Guys, I don't doubt the GT-R standard power figures are quite a bit higher than quoted (@ least 230+kw) but in all reality it isn't' *that* much grunt considering the weight. 1530kg - R33 non V spec 1540kg - R33 V spec These figures are dry weight too! Add oils/fuel etc.. & you're up near 1600+kg. Add a driver & that's one heavy car for 230+kw to haul *on a roll*, off the line is a whole other ball game! R33 GTS25t - 1370kg (5sp) 1390kg (auto) dry weight My car - 1455kg (over 1/2 tank +10-20kg of stuff in the boot) as weighed on very accurately calibrated weighbridge. So......... R33 GTS25t: 1455kg + 80kg driver = 1535kg R33 GT-R non V spec (lighter): 1530kg + ~50kg fuel, oils etc.. + 80kg driver = 1660kg 1660kg - 1535kg = 125kg & I'd say that would be a conservative estimate. "Every kg lost is more than a hp gained" A healthy 180rwkw GTS25t "should" be able to give a *STOCK* R33 GT-R a very good scare *on a roll*. As an interesting side note Munro on these forums had his R34 V spec weighed not long ago.....1658 kg! Add a driver & that's a porker!!! *Note* All standard weight figures 100% accurate as per Nissan specs.

Adrian, Maps.... Hmmm... well I'm working on a route that has a bit of everything (hills/f'way/'burbs etc...) but I'm still learning the good roads myself (18mths in state). I'll PM you my # It'll be easier that way. Matt

They've been advertising both I think?

I've run Redline Shockproof in both box & diff. I can't recommend it more highly!

What type of Skyline do you have?
whatsisname replied to T0nyGTSt's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Ditto to that! Be interesting to see the split of S1 to S2. Plus I'd put the R32 & R33 GTS4's in their own categories. Very different beasts! RB20DET turbo vs RB25DE NA. -
I start the ball rolling....... Supra TT (JDM spec) - ~ high 13's to flat 14's R32 GT-R - low 13's, sneak a high 12 R33 GTS25t - mid/low 14's *Note* - All figures rough ball park. I'm sure there'll be plenty of posts to come with......."What! That's B/S I've seen my mates brothers sisters uncle do a 10.89 on his gtech dead stock!"
-
With a genuine 180rwkw a GTS25t will @ the least match a standard R33 GT-R on a roll, from a standing start forget it if the GT-R driver can launch. A stock R33 GT-R is ~175-180rwkw on the average DD dyno & weights over 100kg more than a GTS25t. I've put quite a few lengths (~5) on an R33 GT-R V Spec (exhaust/filters & boost increase) from a 70km/h roll to the top of 3rd, he went first. The driver of the GT-R & I spoke after the run. He was in the same gear as me & didn't stuff up. It was an honest run. Then again I wasn't exactly stock @ that stage.

Hmmm.... might have that radio dial just a fraction off 92.7 & didn't get the message 100% (j/k) It's $50 to race & $17 for spectators ($12 concession)
-
Clint, I'm keen as mate! But due to family commitments (+ it'll be packed) I can't make it I probably won't be running for a mth or so Hope you get into the 12's! Cost - $50 Starts - 4pm scrutineering 5pm racing Need - ADR approved helmet, long sleeve shirt & pants. Car - Registered & no obvious major faults (any major leaks etc..) That's about it! I'm guessing there'll be a HUGE turn out due to the first SM for mths! I'm not keen on huge delays due to heaps of cars, good for the spectators though (I won't even get to watch ).

Here's my boost gauge & mount.
-
I'll see if I can dig a pic up shortly, otherwise you can have a look on Friday night
-
I don't know what the legalities are with regards to additional gauges? But I have "heard" that clearance is the major issue. Clearance from potential head injury in an impact, & from obstruction of vision. My Autometer boost gauge neither blocks my vision nor poses a risk of impact in a crash. I don't think the inspectors were that concerned with my gauge/A pillar mount, maybe they were in a good mood that day? It was a Friday.
