  1. Steve, I'm an AVTECH in the RAAF (14yrs). I've been @ Aircraft Research & Development Unit (ARDU) for ~18mths, so pretty much Edinburgh too Currently the main ARDU area is 2mins drive from the base but our new facilities on the base are scheduled for completion late this yr. I'm guessing we'll cross paths from time to time As for the 2nd inspection station, I can't recall the name of the area? But I can find my way back there from memory, if need be mate
  2. Steve, I'm sorry to say but it sure will "Regency" is the term commonly used for the Regency Park (suburb) Vehicle Inspection Station. It's the place to get defects cleared, import compliance checks, & most important to you, rego transfers (WA to SA). I had to go through a basic Vehicle Identification Inspection (VII)when I transferred from NSW to SA. You can only remain on WA rego for a small time period (can't remember how long?). My NSW rego was due & I could've just renewed it but as NSW requires a road worthy inspection anyway I needed Transport SA to sign off on it! I rang & asked Trans SA & they said I MUST transfer to SA, even though I'm in the Defence Force & "should" be able to remain registered in whatever state I choose! Anyway I bit the bullet & got it done You only need a VII not a full roadworthy (much bigger - nasty!) but they'll still pick you up for obvious no-no's. The purpose of the VII is to ensure the car is legally registered to you & complied within Australia. They check the VIN & Eng #'s (engine # is stamped on the block low down LHS). As a rough guide here's what I did/didn't have a hassle with: *Failed* MOMO Race wheel - didn't comply with ADR's. It did! They were full of B/S but I wasn't going to fight it because...... That was all they picked me up on! :D *Passed* Lowered - didn't check Exhaust - ditto (didn't look under the car @ all!) K&N pod filter A Pillar mounted boost gauge Razo pedal set Aftermarket ECU/turbo - ditto & plenty of other little potential no-no's Things I fitted straight after the inspection (I mean that day!) that would be a good idea to NOT have fitted for the inspection: Oil catch can (regardless of set-up ie legal or not) Aftermarket BOV I wouldn't have dark tint either as they REALLY target cars with dark tinting!!! Dunno' why? The inspection only takes 10-15mins max & any minor drama you can do & come back, same day (I fitted my stock s/wheel & passed a few hours later). But........ I got my inspection done @ another station south of the City, can't remember the name of the place now, but can recall how to get there! I took it there as they only did VII's & therefore no waiting list, just rock up & in you go! They were less likely to go over the car with a fine tooth comb as well! Hope this info is of some help mate.
  3. It was the most popular of the 3 choices. Sorry dude I'm guessing not everyone thinks the BDO is as important as you? Less people on the road cause they'll be @ the BDO or too stuffed to be driving? It's not gunna' be hot & so far doesn't look like rain, can't complain about that!
  4. I don't think the cold "bear" is gunna' like it too much when you grab him @ start to pull things off! But seriously folks, if you can manage to pick up a few basic tools you can remove your own sparkplugs easy as hell. A bit more mucking about than some engines but it's not exactly rocket science! A soft bristled toothbrush, some carby cleaner & elec contact cleaner will give your plugs a fresh lease of life, not too harsh with the scrubbing though.
  5. Guys, As I said, a minor amount of pressurised air upon releasing the filler cap is normal.
  6. It's not uncommon to get home @ ~1-2am. Nothing wrong with heading home part way through if need be though
  7. A good indication of a badly blocked carbon canister/lines is a HUGE rush of pressurised air/fuel vapours when the fuel cap is removed, i.e the system isn't doing what it was designed to do. A minor amount of built up pressure on a hot day isn't anything to be majorly concered about however.
  8. Thanks mate. Yeah I've only ever run in street trim. It should go a bit quicker again as I've done quite a bit of work & gained a few rwkw since that run. Hope ya' nail low 13's mate.
  9. Steve, If I haven't already said it, "welcome to these parts" Bunnings Hardware (& car park) is located @ 108 Railway Tce Mile End (actually closer to the suburb of Mild End South). The car park can be entered from Sir Donald Bradman drive (formally known as Burbridge Rd) when heading west towards the Adelaide airport. You can also enter the CP from Railway Tce itself by going under Sir Donald Bradman Drv (Burbridge Rd). UBD ADELAIDE Street Directory Map 117 grid reference M-13, well that's what my '00 edition UBD has. If you look on map 117 of the UBD the suburb of MILD END SOUTH is marked in bold black type, directly to the right of this is Railway Tce. That should get you there mate. Matt
  10. A healthy 12V car battery will float @ ~12.2-12.4V give or take. A healthy alternator will put out ~13.8-14.4 give or take (mine is 14.2V) *Important note* - this will not change with rev's. If the voltage increases as the rev go up (14V @ 800rpm 16V @ 4000rpm) the regulator is not working. This will cook your battery. I'd get a multimeter & recheck your battery & alternator to see they are within the above V ranges.
  11. From the factory catalog the stock rear wheel/tyre options on the GTS25t are - 205/55/16 or 225/50/16. So a 205/50/16 combo "may" give a slight improvement in acceleration. Hey Rev why not go for the bottom of the range GTS non-turbo (RB20E) wheel/tyre option - 185/70/14 :burnout: Don't forget to change to a 4 stud hub Go stick her on a known local DD dyno mate, just for the hell of it, you know interest sake @ all that See what she makes before you play with the SAFC II. Regardless of the peak rwkw fig' it'd be interesting to see the power, torque & A/FR curves.
  12. The Excel appeals to me due to its bloody awesome fuel economy! Wife & I had a '97 GX 3dr that we clocked up 120k on it (daily hack- many trips all about OZ!) The only thing we had to replace - a couple of blown headlight bulbs @ that was it! I gave that thing hell too! Sydney - Adelaide = ~$100 fuel Someones pride & joy, daily hack or whatever damaging someone else property is NOT ON
  13. Henry, Yeah mate you guys are welcome to come along. I don't think anyone would have a problem with a few LS1 Commodore guys attending (all good blokes & nice cars). Hey Henry maybe Martin might bring the Ute along for a bit of an arse whippin' ? More like he'll bring the Snorer to whip arse himself! John, Bye bye S2000 hello EVO7. Nice choice mate! ALL - You guys/girls do realise this cruise is proportional to the likelihood of RAIN! The bigger the cruise the greater the chance of it raining
  14. I use to think that the R34 & R33 RB25DET's used the same heat range plug standard (6's) It turns out that the R33 engine has a 5 heat range standard & R34 a 6! Both are a 1.0-1.1mm gap factory.
  15. I can't remember the exact rule of thumb? But it's something like for every 75hp increase go one heat range cooler than standard. 1 - hot | 10- cold A stock R33 RB25DET is ~250hp & runs a 5 heat range plug 325hp - 6's 400 - 7's 475 - 8's & so on... Going too cold for your engine requirements can cause fouling @ idle & cold starts. If the plug tip temp is too low it'll foul very easily. I figure my engine is somewhere ~400+hp hence I use 7's. EDIT: - Just checked the US NGK site. They recommend 1 heat range cooler for every 75-100hp increase over stock.
  16. Plugs - I'd run at least a 7 heat range (I do) & gap them to 0.8-0.9mm. If you had an upgraded ignition system then it'd be far better to keep the gap @1.0-1.1mm. The NGK "Iriway" 7's are a good choice. "Iriways" are one of NGK's Iridium high heat range, special order in most cases (~$30ea) If that's too expensive then I'd go for Platinum in a 7 heat range (~$16-18ea). If you don't mind changing plugs regularly then just use BCP7ES, if they do a 7 in the BCP range? Most of the HKS, Trust type plugs are just the same as the NGK Iriways (but closer to $40-45ea!). Edit: Oils - Motul (300V) or Redline are both excellent oils.
  17. Just about everything "use to" smoke me @ the lights! Until I got my RE540S. I use to just accept the fact that I was going to have to play catch up once I got traction (on 255 Falken ZE502 Ziex). The odd LS1 VX/VT SS sticks out above all else, always caught them by 2nd or 3rd though. Since the new rubber I've not seen tail lights Yet!
  18. I've PM'd you my # Matt
  19. Exactly JUNpowerYo! Like I said earlier, a quality performance alloy wheel isn't just about good looks! Reduced unsprung weight will improve every aspect of a cars on-road behaviour, a better power- to -weight ratio & improved handling are a few of the benefits.
  20. Exactly the same goals as me Rod Matt
  21. No no no..... of course I wasn't stereotyping, my keyboard only has mono (lame j/k) Naa I was merely giving info to help ALL RB25DET NEO owners, just in case someone else had an auto & wanted to go for a PFC. VLT box? What happened to the GTS-t box? Pitty the conversion didn't get done with the GTS25t / 25GTt box It "shouldn't" be too hard to source a 2nd hd R34 PFC, from Nengun perhaps?
  22. Chris, Naa mate you won't take long to pick it back up, just like riding a bike If you hate paddling then reef waves are for you! No shorebreak to paddle though. I've been surfing with a stand-up mate lately who's ridden just about EVERY SA spot worth knowing so that should have the Yorkes selection covered! Trust me mate all it'll take is one good session & few quality waves & you'll wonder why you haven't been more often! Henry, Good to hear mate. Dropping into a clean offshore 4-6' peak on nice sunny early morning (~7.00am) brings a smile to the dial Will do. John, So good & bad news about AIR. Glad the Nat's are still here! The 33 on the street would've been an interesting sight from the next lane I'll give you guys a call next time I'm headed to Victor. PM me your # Chris.
  23. As long as you don't have to control the auto to go with the NEO RB25DET. In short - 5sp NEO no probs Auto NEO - PFC no good .
  24. It looks like the 31st is the winner from our poll. When - Friday 31st Jan 9.00pm leaving 9.30ish (usually that'll mean 10pm ) Where - Bunnings car park Mile End, on the city side of the car park, ie come into the cp from under the overpass if heading south (where we started on the joint LS1/Skyline cruise that rained). Route - Something for everyone hopefully! Open to suggestions. For those that wanted the 24th - go for it! But I can't make it. CYA on the 31st
  25. Chris, Yeah mate BB'ing has been my other big hobby (lifestyle influence) since I was ~8yrs old! I grew up in a surfing family (dad being a shaper & all) & bodyboarded on a near daily basis for yrs. After I joined the RAAF & graduated I still surfed on a weekly basis (5x a wk) It's only been in the last 2yrs that I haven't been as much, mostly due to the Skyline interest! My BB vid/mag collection is larger than my car vid/mag collection! Any time you (or any other BB/stand-up) wanna' hook up for a wave I'm keen! I don't mind Knights, it's like Rebounds on South Arm in Tassie (where I grew up) but it doesn't seem to hold size as well? 6'+ & it shuts down, maybe the sand hasn't been right when I've ridden it? I was @ Knights a few wks back, 18-20+ guys out! I just took off on the bigger closeouts to get a wave or 2 to myself! Good for big closeout barrels & airs but :uh-huh: Give me reef waves anyday though! Shark Island or The Reef @ Eaglehawk Neck in Tassie are my kinda' waves Andy, Long time no hear mate! See ya' on the 31st Happy Chinese NY.
