  8. Les Lothringer's Approach to Remove / Reinstall Rear Bar on a Nissan R34 Skyline. May be applicable to similar Skyline models. - Duration: Several minutes one person to remove / reinstall. - Difficulty Level: Easy - once you know where the hidden attachments are. Refer photos for sequence. - Special Tools: Plastic Plug Remover - see pix #6. - Other Tools: Large Phillips Head Screwdriver, 1/4" 10 mm socket, 1/4" Extension Drives, background music of your choice. - Parts: None, although plastic clips eventually break after a few installations. - What Can Go Wrong: Hard to go wrong. - Reference: None used. Approach: _____________________ Refer the sequence of photos for location of bolts, screws and plastic plugs, to first remove. My link Fitment is the reverse procedure. _________________________________ - Les Lothringer's Disclaimer [short Form]: This describes my approach. If you choose to follow it and make a mistake, remember - at all times, it really is your fault, your risk and your cost. If you choose to follow it and get a different outcome, that's because you need to know more than what is described here. If you choose to follow it and something subsequently and in the rich fullness of time goes awry, you bear the consequences, deservedly or otherwise but probably deservedly. Recognize that your car may have been worked on by a previous owner who knew less than you do [scarey!!], who may not have applied good workshop practice or whom may have been a qualified workshop technician operating to unrealistic "industry standard job time" pressures and so took yet to be revealed shortcuts with unfortunate or even dire consequences or perhaps prepared the car for sale under instructions from a previous owner to "keep it cheap mate". If you lack the confidence, ability, manual dexterity, clear eyesight, intelligence, mental clarity, patience, emotional stability, knowledge, focus, correct tools, time and a firm, level under-cover location free of rain, flood, high winds, blizzards, sand storms, ground instabilities, ionizing radiation, blood sucking insects, inadequate lighting, excessive noise, distractions, subterranean volcanic activity, very low flying aircraft, terrorist actions, foreign invasion, etc etc etc, or otherwise believe in the power of prayer to keep you from screwing up in the performance of these tasks or even worse, possess a wife [or wives] or partner [or partners] pestering you to complete the work in what seems to her [them] to be more than a very reasonable affluxion of time, engage someone who does not. No responsibility accepted for srorre, omissions, misguided and unjustified assertions. Every car can be different. Your car may have design defects courtesy of the manufacturer [probably does] or aftermarket manufactured parts applied [quite possibly and made to another engineer's standards or maybe a committee of engineers with the usual interference from cost accountants (I did cost accounting)] or outstanding campaigns issued against it, as yet unapplied or applied incorrectly or components designed / manufactured under no intention of being serviceable [built-in obsolescence]. Torque settings as per Nissan WSM's.

  11. Les Lothringer's Approach to Replacing R34 Skyline Steering Wheel & Airbag & Resetting Airbag Alarm. May be applicable to similar Skyline models. - Duration: One hour one person. - Difficulty Level: Easy for experienced motor repairers, unless something goes wrong. Check photos for what went wrong. - Disclaimer: Note the Disclaimer guys - 1st photo. - Reference: Nissan Workshop Manuals. - Special Tools: Torx TR (tamper resistant) T30 Drive, Steering Wheel Puller. If Airbag mounting bracket is also to be removed, then T40 Drive. - Other Tools: Screwdrivers, Torque Wrench, 1/2" drive 19 mm socket, 1/2" Extension Drives. - Parts: Another Steering Wheel or Airbag as needed. - What Can Go Wrong: Many things. Over-tensioned bolts may shear off. Amatuer mechanics not using the correct tools can damage bolts. Approach: _____________________ Refer the sequence of photos for removal of Steering Wheel and Airbag. Fitment is more or less the reverse procedure. One photo describes the resetting of the Airbag circuit alarm [4th last]. Other photos describe what went wrong [last 3]. __________________________________ https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=482EB6F2B024B51E&id=482EB6F2B024B51E%211025

  23. Skyline R34 Remove and Replace Steering Wheel & Airbag & Resetting Airbag Alarm - Les Lothringer's Approach to Replacing R34 Skyline Steering Wheel & Airbag & Resetting Airbag Alarm. May be applicable to similar Skyline models. This is an R34 GT4 manual. - Duration: About one hour one person. - Difficulty Level: Easy for experienced motor repairers, unless something goes wrong. Check photos for what went wrong. - Disclaimer: Due to pathological lawyers and the people who use them, note the usual Disclaimer of Responsibility. This describes my approach. If you choose to follow it and screw it up following this approach, remember - at all times, it's your fault. If you choose to follow it and get a different outcome, that's because you need to know more than what is described here. No responsibility for errors or omissions. If you lack the confidence, ability, intelligence, patience, knowledge, discretion, correct tools and location to perform these tasks, engage someone who does not. Read the WorkShop Manual carefully. Remember, other people may have worked on your car and not followed good workshop practice - refer to what can go wrong. Every car can be different. Many stories attend the dangers of working with or near Airbags, like exploding near your head and causing serious injury or death. Torque settings as per Nissan R32 GTR WSManual. - Reference: Nissan Workshop Manuals. - Special Tools: Torx TR (tamper resistant) T30 Drive [for Airbag bolts x 2], Steering Wheel Puller. If Airbag Mounting Bracket is also to be removed, then T40 Drive [none TR is fine]. - Other Tools: Screwdrivers, Torque Wrench, 1/2" drive 19 mm socket [for Steering Wheel special securing nut], 1/2" Extension Drives. - Parts: Another Steering Wheel or Airbag as needed. - Safe Handling of Airbags: No guarantees here. Laying face up on a flat surface is advised. Do not short out electrical connector nor connect an external source of electrical energy to the Airbag - ie: don't try to explode your Airbag because you could do yourself or someone serious injury. Do not dismantle. - What Can Go Wrong: Over-tensioned bolts may shear off. Amatuer mechanics not using the correct tools can damage bolts, leaving you to deal with it. Check photos. Trying to remove the Steering Wheel without using a Steering Wheel Puller is not recommended but doubtless someone will say they got away with it. Axially loading the Steering Wheel column is ill advised. Approach: _____________________ Refer the sequence of photos for removal of Steering Wheel and Airbag. Fitment is more or less the reverse procedure. One photo describes the resetting of the Airbag Circuit Alarm. This, to my knowledge, only works on R34's and not R33's. Final photos describe what went wrong.
