  1. ok.... sounds like this is fairly stock. have you wound the boost up at all. Few things to check... 1. fuel pump, when i bought my gtst it wast almost dead... not enough fuel under high load is bad... theres a test where you disconnect the fuel return pipe (i think) and see if its flowing fuel under load. if it doesnt then the pump might have had it (check this procedure with the others i cant remember it properly/safely) 2. As mentioned above coil packs. Mine looked ok but werent working reliably... bought splitfires and it fixed exactly the same symptoms.
  2. check the wires and relays in the engine bay with a test light, if the lights are on and fuses are oko but no glow on your test light... problems....
  3. yes that is the coolant tank. When running normally this should be filled to the full mark. This means that the radiator and cooling system is full, and the excess is stored in the tank in the corner of the engine bay. if you've poured 2 litres in and it hasnt drained out on to the floor pour some more in and run the engine. the coolant should stop draining once its reached the right level.* * if it keeps draining and the engine suddenly runs like crap you have far far bigger problems.
  4. also get a new radiator cap. if the cap doesnt seal right, pressure doesnt build and a fluids boiling point varies directly to the pressure, so low pressure == low boiling point, high pressure == hight boiling point. Not sure what the boiling point is of coolant, or if this is even the cause, but an old car of mine had overheating and coolant spraying issues and i replaced everything (hoses thermostat etc etc) but the cap last... damn cap fixed it. and they're cheap so why not.
  5. Is it really that shocking Liz??? heh i bet you thought i went out and bought a camry
  6. Hi all, Its been a long time and probably none of you remember me but after two years of being off the road, i've almost got my line back into good enough shape to return. For a number of reasons (mainly me being a lazy idiot) my car needs the whole gay pride flag colour range worth slips to get through rego. And due to a few mods here or there i'm thinking the best thing to do is just get it engineered and do it all properly. Mods so far. PFC, 3 inch turbo back exhaust with high flow cat. lowered (cant vouch for if this is done right or to legal height) eboost boost controller k&n pod in CAP. adjustable upper control arms on rear Other than that, stock turbo, stock intercooler. So i have a few questions to ask (and maybe favors to call if anyones feeling helpful). First if all i've fixed up a few things that i hated about the car when i last drove it (but could change due to money). Wheels from 17x8 and 17x9 to 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 work CR kai's Pod filter (K&N) now fully enclosed in a carbon fibre CAP. Now the only concerns i have left is ride height (previous owner lowered it and i cant vouch for his work) which i'm going to measure up once the new wheels and tires are on emissions test and exhaust. As stated i dont want to do a return to stock on parts if i dont need to as i'd prefer to engineer it with mods and be able to enjoy them instead of worrying about defects whenever i'm on the roads. So to the questions, 1. if the ride height is too low, will a run into new engineering cert issues if i fit adjustable coilovers (thinking tein mono flex)? 2. I already have a pfc, is anyone able to do a safe tune on for 98 pulp or is e85 an option (currently stock injectors) to cut emissions (am willing to pay with money or beer). 3. If the exhaust proves to noisy can anyone recommend a nice turbo back setup that most importantly does a good job, but also sounds ok without being too loud. 4. And lastly i've moved down to the shire, so all the places i used to frequent are now miles away, can anyone recommend work shops etc etc south of the bridge? Any help would be gladly appreciated.
  7. uat a quick query, i found this GD too late, any plans for another anytime soon??
  8. so a screaming noise when under boost..... hmmm.... are you sure its not your passenger???
  9. Hi all, Putting the finishing touches on an order for new rims. The supplier has recommended the following. 18x8.5 +32 and 18x9.5 +38 Cars an R33 GTST S1 Can anyone confirm if there will be any issues with this?
  10. just to clarify a little because i didnt add it originally. I'm also looking for the plastic fasteners that are used to attached the boot trim to the frame.
  11. I'm looking to buy the following interior peices for an s1 r33 GTST (might be the same on an s2 i dont know). 1x Driver door window switch surround 1x Boot trim (all peices, floor, battery cover, sides etc etc). I'm assuming that these peices are always the same colour despite exterior colour. PM me if you have any of the above and let me know what you want for them. Cheers Messiah
  12. I need to replace 2 rims on my 33 gtst and seeing as i cant find the right replacements anymore (17x9 avs model 5 copies) it looks like i'm now going to buy a new set of 4 and replace the whole lot. So i'm decided on the rim, work CR Kai's, but i'm tossing up on the size and color. The size is due to clearance and offset, i need to make sure they fit or i've wasted my cash. I could go for 17's like i have already, but it seems like its easier to get rubber for 18's. As for colour, i currently have shadow chromed rims but i'm considering bronze (cars gunmental). Can anyone comment on fitting CR Kais on a gtst (17 or 18's, any problems getting them to fit?) And does anyone have a pic of a gunmetal skyline with bronze rims, does it look naff or ok (in my imagination it looks pretty good). Cheers for all the help.
  13. ok that makes sense to me. But lets say u have a gently curved surface. E.g the power window button trim, or the trip from around the gear stick. How would u make a mould of it? the only easy thing i can imagine is maybe making a fibre glass mould of the original item and then using that as a mould for the cf. Would fibre glass be strong enough to use for a mould? would it give a good enough finish if sanded and prepped properly. I only ask because i've wanted to play with this stuff for ages and the only thing holding me back is how to get started on making moulds.
  14. Ok i dont own a gtr but logically hears my guess. You have 2 intakes, going into 2 turbo's then merging into one pipe either before or after the fmic (never checked which). So theoretically you could plug the stock vents and add a single one just before the throttle body ah-la rb25. I'd assume that mixing bovs wouldnt be a good thing due to the fact that they might both respond in very different ways (ie flow totally different amounts, one plumbs back the other doesnt etc etc) for all i know, and that may have carry on consequences. Anyone care to correct me or confirm this?
  15. Could be a number of things. First and for most is it a stock or uprated turbo. On a stocker i'd be surprised if you maxed the injectors. I run a rb25 with stock turbo and no fmic at 12psi (playing it safe boost wise) and a pfc and i only get an injector duty cycle of around 60 - 75%. The fuel pump is definately a possibilty, when i first dyno'd my car the factory item had almost totally died, it pumped enough fuel to run... but a big ZERO was coming back the return pipe. So if yours is still factory check that out. There is a test procedure that ppl do when they dyno a car, i'm un sure of the specifics but its generally a matter of disconnecting the return line from the fuel rail to check the pump, after that i'd imagine they'd use a wide band lamda probe to read the mix post injection, maybe doing some similar tests might help u find the root cause.
  16. Does anyone have any nifty tips for making curved moulds for this stuff? I've always wanted to try my hand at making a few things but always got stuck when it came to making the right shaped mould capable of the right finish. Eg, anyone want to suggest how they might make cf copies of the plastic trim around the electric window buttons?
  17. yeah tried justjap, they said they couldnt get it either.... but that it might be available sometime next year. i'm an impatient sod tho so i want one now. Autoworks said they will call me later today and let me know so i'll keep u all posted.
  18. Thanks heaps stR33ter, I just gave them a call and there looking into it for me.... so fingers crossed. If anyone else is interested in getting one let me know and i'll post up whether works auto can find any. Messiah
  19. Hey Guys, Two weeks or so ago i ordered a trial copy front bar from my local workshop (UAS) for my s1 33gtst in the hope of picking it up today. Unfortunately it seems like there are no more moulds for this style bar in Aus that they could track down. I even rang a few places myself to see if i could find one (obvious places like justjap etc etc) and still no joy. Has anyone purchased one of these recently? if so could you point me in the direction of your supplier or alternatively if anyone has one of these bars for sale please let me know. My only alternative would be to order a genuine unit from Japan which looks like it will set me back $1300 not including shipping, so i'd like to avoid this if possible (unless of course people would like to chip in so a mould could be made from it and copies sold to others as a way of diluting the cost). If anyone has any info that might help me please let me know either via pm or email. Thanks all Messiah
  20. Hey all, I was just having a good troll this this arvo and noticed a few new "Some F#$@%@ stole my car" threads. Now i'm kinda sick of seeing these, not sick of you guys posting them, but sick of you needing to. That said i dont think we'll ever see the end of it all. But it did give me an idea. Most of you who have had a car nicked and got it back have normally reported that all the nifty bits had been stripped, and thos who never find theres again, well we can only gather that everythings been stripped. Being the bored coder that i am i'm always looking for an excuse to put a database together. So i'm thinking of making a parts register. This register would contain just a few fields per entry... Owner Contact Part Serial Distinguising Marks/Comments Status The idea being that when you buy say a new HKS Turbo you'd log in and register the part using the details above. When someone goes to buy something online (ebay or on here or anywhere) they can ask for the serial or a pic of the part and search the register to make sure theres no match. If there isnt, you can happily buy the part knowing everything should be ok. If on the other hand you find Serial XXX-XXX-XXX in there and listed as stolen, you not only know that its hot, but you can also aid the person who spent their hard earnt cash on it in finding the knob who nicked it. Anyway thats the idea. Feed me back people, it may have flaws but u can help fix em.
  21. I could have swarn that throughout history women have been fighting segragation for decades, not only that but traditional male institutions have been critised publicly for their single sex rules. I would have thought that instead of seeking further segragation you would instead be seeking to raise the profiles of females and increase public knowledge of their roles within existing clubs. Man i must be getting backwark in my years, I also heard 2 skylines talking about meeting up without their owners.... like on a regular basis.... its not cricket it tell u
  22. I've bloddy lost my grandma. It's one of those biggish ones - Would have a Uniball Elite attached to her. Last time I rememeber seeing it was on a cruise or meeting with the SAU mob - Maybe someone picked it up not knowing whose she was ? Anyway, if you know where she is , please contact me - cost me like $350 at the time - So as you can imagine, I'm keen to get her back. Cheers

  24. bugger... oh well i guess thats that then cheers mate
  25. Allo all, My parents are looking for a turbo diesel Landcruiser so they can go on a tour of Aus. They have heard me talk about the benefits (and draw backs) of importing cars in from japan, such as having lower km's than a used aussie example for the same price etc etc. I have had a cursory look around a few import sites but so far i have only found 89-91 model land cruisers. The changes to the import laws may well explain the lack of more recent examples but i thought i'd ask you guys first before i put the idea to rest. Does anyone here have any experience with imported late model Landcruisers? are they available and if so is it worth while. I know some of you will tell me to call an importer, and i will do so, but it doesnt hurt to check here first. Thanks all. Messiah
