i am going home in 15mins... where i'm going to sit down and ponder how i can burn a new hole in my wallet next pay. (Messiah just got reemed by his layer for 250 plus some and he was dumb enough to spend 200 on engine and gearbox oil the day before)

Heh i love my car to death, but i know that its a great car... and just cos i drive it it doesnt make me a great person, i'm a great person anyway... so my car makes no difference

damn... this forum screwed me again... tells me its a dupe... doesnt show the original post... so i retype... then find the dupe... this thing hates me.

ok ya got me there, i love a chick thjat can out crotch-adjust/out fart me in the morning. But i wasnt saying that only westie chicks know about cars, just that there are more westie chicks than others kinds tha do. which is what makes a non-westie skyline loving chick even better... u can talk about yr car and not feel vaguely homosexual when u get out of bed each morning

yeah ya got me... nothing beats a chick who can out-crotch-adjust and out fart me in the morning. heh and i wasnt saying that only westie chicks know about cars... just that more westie chicks know about them than non-westie chicks.... but ya see thats what makes a non-westie female skyline lover a very special thing.... u get to date a girl who loves yr car without making you feel vaguely homosexual

one good thing about them, some of them know more about cars then the average chick.... and they dont get bored when u talk about them... like DJ's g/f (heh he'll kill me for that).

i am talking, but theres a nasty nasty boss sat just a few desks down, so i'm having to get my msg's typed by a friend. i'm tapping them in morse code on a pipe in here.... he's in the lav with a gprs modem and a lap top listening in

i'm biased (cos i have one) but i'd say get a 33gtst. they're cheaper than GTR's (i'd love one of those buy just cant afford it). the upgrade path is well trodden and cos there kinda alot of them around parts are easy to source,

skylinechick, didnt know we had another hills member there... i live up in dural, what ya drive, maybe i might finally have a chance of getting spotted. I once had a girl snub me cos my N12 wasn't a SSS.

Nothing, but some people have more car than personality... so they use one to make up for the other.... and the only ppl dumb enough to fall for it are westie chicks
  11. Yeah good point.... i've noticed that the parking lot is always filled there.... Hmmm.... if only i could figure out how to have my cake and eat it. Someone has volunteered a venue in silver water (althought that was a while back), but due to my lack of time i've had bugger al chance to pull it into some semblance of a plan. That said having it at/near UAS would be great in as much as the parts would be right on hand. Maybe i should try and sort it so that the service day is a week or 2 before dyno day that way everyone gets chance to work in their oils and parts before dynoing
  12. ya know... u could do me a huge favor and let me use the day as for the GSD (Group Service day) aswell, that way ppl can service whiile waiting and dyno all in one day. I've been trying to get time to organise the GSD for a while now but have been rushed off my feet with work, but i always thought a dyno would be the perfect addition, if u will a group services would be a nice addition to a dyno day what ya think?
  13. Crap sorry lads... my bad... i want looking where i was clicking. **mods... please move this for me... i screwed up**
  14. Drivers who are a member of the 10k under club - if its 80 they do 70, if its 60 they do 50. or The My-car-only-has-one-speed club memember - If its an 80 zone they do 70, if its a 60 zone.... they do 70. Or one of my pet peves. The I-put-my-gas-pedal-to-the-floor-in-my-auto-then-regulate-speed-using-the-brake club member. i went for a big drive after changing my oil this weekend and the only thing that detracted from my fun were people who must have been membersw of the above. Oh that and all the people who SUDDENLY (they had been doing it just fine for the 45 mins before) forget the keep left unless overtaking rule opn the syd to newy freeway
  15. sorry lads... my work is making my freetime non existant, rest assured i havnt forgotten and i'm just waiting to have a free moment to get some work for this done.
  16. ok merli, i can see where yr both coming from but one thing i do have to raise... the post is titled "how to build an XX sec car" not "how to build a car capable of XX sec and drive it to acheive said time". So what he advertised is theoriticaly correct (if a little obscure). A question if i may. if you were to take the above car, with any of its above tunings, do you think you could drive it to an 11sec 400m? You cant cater for the driver in a post like this all you can do is outline what the car has and what figures it pulls up. Otherwise he'd need to say things like "the above in conjunction with an 80kg driver and a clutch slip rate of Y squared should get your launch to blah, change at the following points and hazzah" What he has said is "heres a car that made lotsa power, with a useable power band, one that i'm pretty certain would do 11's if i didnt use blu tak to hold my piping joins in place and drive like a granny" or sommin to that extent. Just think of in people, instead of saying "HE never did the time" try looking at it as "he COULDNT do the time, but could i do it in that car". I bet you could tell if a time was acheiveable by looking at a dyno sheet merli, well atleast you'd be able to tell when its not, and that leaves all other times as possible. Sure a dyno isnt the same as a time, but it is IMHO a bit of paper that says "it seems to have the power to do it". More info on the setup would have been better tho. shocks stiffness rebound tyre type etc etc would have fitted in well an allowed people to say "ahh i see you went wrong there old chap, you should have painted it RED" So in closing, the dyno will show you if its possible, the tuning will make it acheivable, and a good driver will make it a reality. or to put it anotherway.... if i were to take 2rismos's proven 13sec-off-the-bottle car and drive it crap, say hi 15's does it stop being a 13 sec car, or am i just not a 13sec driver?
  17. James, My brother in law is mates with the lads at gcg, he highly recommends any they sell. and looking at his past cars... i beleive every word he says.
  18. yeah.. was a good page.... i should have mentioned that i pulled it and modified the numbers for a skyline... my bad
  19. hope this helps 500 horsepower is equivalent to roughly 1.3 billion joules per hour. 1 liters of fuel contains 35 million joules, so a 500-hp engine has to be able to burn just over 37L of gas per hour. However, car engines are only about one-quarter efficient -- three quarters of the gasoline's energy escapes as heat rather than as power to the wheels. So the engine actually has to be able to burn at least 148L per hour, or 2.4L per minute. Petrol requires about 14.7 kilograms of air to burn 1 kilogram of gas. Air weighs 1.222 kilograms per cubic meter at sea level. A Litre of gasoline weighs 1.34 kilograms. So the engine has to be able to process 1.34*2.4*14.7 kilograms of air per minute, or roughly 38 cubic meters of air per minute. That's 38,000 liters of air per minute. If a straight 6 engine is turning at 6,000 rpm, it can inhale a total of 18,000 cylinders' full of air per minute. If it needs to inhale 38,000 liters of air per minute, it works out to roughly 2 liters per cylinder-full. That's a 12-liter engine. But an engine that size wouldnt be able to turn at 6000 rpm maybe (ok it could but not easily) maybe closer to 4000. soooooo 4000*6/2 is 12000 cylinders per minute. we still require 38000 litres of air for 500hpso 38000/12000 = 3.2 ltrs a cylinder * 6. we now need a 19.2 ltr engine. but wait theres more... ok so how do we get 500hp from 2.5/6 litres. the turbo, double the airflow and you can effectively double your fuel. ok i think thats enough maths forme today... you can add up the rest What does this prove... its proves that power is more complex than simple litreage. RPM is relative to cylinder size, air flow to rpm, air flow to fuel consumption.
  20. oh and please please please... if i have gone wring somewhere tell me where and how... i'm a conceptual kinda person so i kinda make a mental image of a running engine and follow the air flow, so one wrong assumption would send my otherwise accurate mental map into a mess.
  21. yes an no... what u found there is the solenoid... not a controller as such cos its not "smart". From what i can tell (by playing with my car) the boost is controlled as follows. the solenoid feeds air into the wastgate actuator from the intake piping (before the throttle body as this is a boost only point). now i dont know too much about wastegate actuators myself, but i assume that this air feed is to build pressure above the actuator diaphram and hold the gate closed (ie if u have say a 4psi spring rate and feed and additional 3psi of pressure into the diaphram u get an opening pressure of 7psi, please correct me if i've gone wrong). ok now lets think about this prob logically.... 1. we're getting good boost... so that means no leaks in anything up to the throttle body and the waste gate is closed. 2. revs are proportional to power - rules out the clutch so that leaves the ecu, block and the power train (minus clutch) That sounds right ppl?
  22. Practical application,..., well thats easy... dont drive your lada the wrong way around the track. heh but on a more serious note... it does have practical applications... take f1 drivers. Thier capsules are made to with stand impacts will heavy immobile objects at speeds in excess of 260km. the idea being... if you can make the capsule strong enough then the driver will not with anything but the restraints... And as we know... the restraints are designed to do their job while causing as little injury as possible.... So there we go... practical applications. But as merli said restraints and deceleration dont mean jack when you exchange engine blocks at 130
  23. as for their "Flame thrower kit" god who doesnt know about screwing a spark plug into your exhaust pipe... i mean oooerrr wizzo! a spark plug to screw into my exhaust... glad they made a kit, i'm to unco to do that myself. (please note sarcasm at the end there
  24. SW-GT : your spot on... a stationary object will have its own crumple effect by shifting flexing and so forth... i'm not going to put up the maths formulas cos thats a little deep, but the gist is that if you hit say a brick wall... due to your crumple zones, shifting, kinetic energy, inertia and other forces your deceleration will be X. How ever if you propel that wall forward to 130 and then impact with it your inertia will be neutralised more quickly (almost instantly) the kinetic energy would almost double and instead of being released into the object you hit (as it would be if you were to hit a stationary object) each cars kinetic energy is passed on to the other but in the opposite direction to each cars direction of travel. so now your deceleration is 2X hence impact g's are also greatly increased.
