  1. James, As far as i know it wont make too much difference whether u leave it open or not, but for the sake of keeping crap out i'd block it off. If i'm wrong ppl please tell me.
  2. as for your clutch in... for now... do it to the floor... when u get into the flow of things then work on quick shifting. heh its always easy to get over eager on a gear change and dump yr clutch too early, god knows on occasion i still do.
  3. here's a tip that has always worked for everyone i've given it to. go to a flat bit of road and stop the car..... put it first and leave yr foot off the gas... then slowly remove the clutch. your aim obviously is to get the car going with now gas until u have the clutch all the way out. i found this helped people get an idea about where and how their cluch bites and just how much power u need to supply.
  4. mate... i got mine at western mufflers in fairfield.... $1300 - 3 inch all the way from the turbo including highflow cat and 5 inch tip. Very nice me thinks... nice note and not too loud. I have alot of faith in them too... my bro in law builds and races various cars and thats where he got his... heh and he's were i heard about these guys.
  5. Let me know if u end up with left overs from guys who pulled out... i'll take them off yr hands and see if i can sell them to some skyline owners at work
  6. ok exhausts are pretty straight forward as far as it all goes. Your main consideration should be noise and price. Normally its one of the first things people do as it allows the later mods to really show through. The bigger the exhaust the louder it tends to be (althought exceptions may occur). I'm running an r33 s1 gtst and the first thing i did was get the zorst upgraded to 3 inch all the way from the turbo (inc dump pipe) and whack on a 3inch tip. It wont really effect how much boost you can run instead it effects how it responds to boost if that makes sense. As for power, well the engine should feel less limited through the entire range. Next question... aftermarket or custom?? I side with custom as to me a tube is a tube and where as mandral bends etc are good, after market mandral bends are the same as custom mandral bends if of good quality, so why spends a whole pile of extra cash. All your looking for is the shortest least restrictive way out for the exhaust. My exhaust cost me 1300 from western mufflers in fairfield syd, there pretty good in my eyes. By bro in law uses them to build his drag cars exhausts aswell, they know what they're doing, with the added bonus that the owner talks like dr nick from the simpsons. Also in my eyes it has a nice note and isnt too loud For the time being i'd worry less about upping boost and more about prepping the engine so that when you do up the boost the engines ready for it. Next i'm gonna do the ecu then boost controller then fmic. I'll replace my BOV once boost gets high enough that i have to, otherwise its just cop bait and noise.
  7. Heh this just makes me wanna be a complete C*** and post a thread titled "HAH! BACKUP LOST HIS LICENSE!"
  8. As for the bov noises below 0 psi. keep in mind that yr intake is a vacuum when your boost gauge is below 0. infact when it reaches 0 it means your turbo has equalised the vacuum with an equivalent amount of boost. its still bossting... but not to positive pressure, its just lessened the vacuum. so when u let off the gas it still makes a noise.
  9. simple explanation but a good one.... chef would also compare it to head and white women.... it doesnt matter how big her mouth is if she doesnt swallow... oh wait hang on... nah i'll leave i'd just dig myself deeper... sorry girls forgive me. But to be serious the idea of modding the exhaust is to allow the engine to blow out with more ease, just like modding your intake makes it suck harder... urrmm... sorry.... breath in easier. With a cat back your modding the least imprtant part.... ie the very last stop before it goes out to atmosphere, its still had to make its way through the toilet role sized tube from the turbo. so your still sucking a melon down a hose pipe. Going for a full turbo back ensures that you have no restrictions after your exhaust spools the turbo and makes its final sprint out the back... Remeber, your exhaust will only blow as fast as the smaller bit will let it.... even if u put big bits after it.
  10. yeah the power demands of the compressors are a draw back... hmm... if only i knew its exact voltage requirements. heh might end up with a car that would do flat 9's tho. if only the battery didint run flat after 4secs or less. As for the huffduff idea... currently with a polica scanner u can hear what the cops are saying... but you only know where they are if they happen to say it over radio. The idea of the huffduff for cars is to use radio receivers mounted on a number of vehicles to trangualte the location and then map it to a graphical map on a web server. that way you'd have a gps like map of your area with the last known location of any cop who's used his radio since the last update. the more users (radios receivers) the more acurate the cop location due to more points of triangulation. Could be cute... driving along... navigaiting using the map on the lap top screen when up comes a whole bunch of blue dots on the map on the road ahead of you. "Ahh that must be an rbt or defect station... i'll turn left here and go around them". Also it beats radar detectors as they only pic something up once you close enough to start copping their radar waves.... this would be range inspecific, if a car can "hear" the signal, it can get a bearing for it, and if 2 or more cars get get bearings for it, those barings can be triangulated and then mapped, once every say 5 mins (time taken from the centralised server to stop discrepancies and bearing drift) so u end up with a map of say sydney with every radio transmitting cop within ranges location graphically mapped.... hmmm think i;ve repeated myself... but i cant be arsed going back and fixing it... but i hope this clarifies my original ramble a little.
  11. heh u forgot the colour
  12. Ok now when i ever i drive or just get bored i have a tendancy to sit and ponder random things.... mostly geek stuff and my car. On occasion something in my mind breaks and the 2 combine and out comes some outlandish idea. Now this isnt unusal.... but then, very rarely, one come up and i think "that just might work.... be pricy tho.... but hey..". Now i'm not the only one who does it.... i've seen the rest of you do it. stuff like feeding air conditioning in air intakes etc.... infac i'll get back to that one later. So i thought i'd start a thread to discuss hair brained car things we dream up that just might work. heres a few i've couple i've come up with. 1. Cascade vapor phase cooled air intake and or intercooler. Now as mentioned before... people have asked "hey can i cool my intake with my a/c?" and as we all know the answer is "no, it drains more than it makes". easy... but the idea was good... the problem was the approach... this is a car... ideas need balls... Now in the computer world we cant drive our pc's down the road and 120 the get a wind chill factor to cool the cpu's. So to crank up the speed.... we go nuts on cooling. In facts we're at times geeks are the kings of cooling. The solution is this.... a range of refrigeraters use a cooling system called vapour phase cooling. to make it short its a cranked up use decompressing a liquid into a gas at a high rate there for cooling, to about... - 80 kinda weak . now this was my idea.... for hard core fans only..... A Cascade vapour phases system works like this it uses 2 condensors and 2 evaporators. Where as the normal system (vapour phase cooling) just condenses to air, this system uses a second evaporator to cool the condensor of the first... Basically. Whack the condensers on either side of the inter cooler intercooler, normal condenser on the front, cooled condenser on the back. the cooling element of the normal condenser is intergrated into the rear condenser. now your thinging.... but thats still not gonna cool that second condenser enough... but heres the twist.. the final element is placed against the back of standard air intercooler or inside a water cooler if thats used. this would hopefully have the effect of drastically cooling the air entering the engine Normal vapour phase cools to -80... cascadeding it cools to around -140... now this is in normal enviroments.... so we'll have to scale for space a little, so that figure might drop. and thats only the temp of the final element... not what we're cooling. so where ever u place that element will effect its effincency. options are intercooler or air intake. for space the rest of the system would prolly need to be away from the engine. and no before u shoot me i dont expect -140 degree engine intake temps. but besides that please shoot as many holes in it as u like Idea number 2 - HUFFDUFF for cars. Mount directional radio antennas on cars linked to gps'd lap tops with gprs phones. The antenner tracks the strength of the signal to find which direction its coming from.... the lap top maps this direction as a bearing and at marked intervals up loads it and its own gps cordinates to a server on the net (via gprs phone). the server takes this signal information and triangulates the signal sources useing this trangulation and the gps locations of the cars these signal sourves can easily be mapped to a graphical map and displayed on a web server.... which... in tern can be viewed by the lap tops in the cars. kinda like peer to peer cop scanning the more people who equipe it the greater the accuracy of the system and its range. tuned to various frequencies you could pinpoint pretty much anything.... warships .... aircraft... or... cops. peoples software woulds always show a map of the area around the gps location of the car. to various scale. thats easy stuff... also as an icq kinda thing ppl could shere there gps location info with friends so they too show on the map... cute eh? alrighty thats 2 of mine.... your turn...

    Camera Mount

speaking of camera mounts... anyone know where i can get one of those ones they mount on the outside of the door? just back and out from the wheel?
  14. Yeah it looks like trying to organise parts for others wont work, so i'm gonna chat with tony to see if his car park is still on offer and whens good for him and put the time up. then it will be byo unless someone asks me nicely
  15. i would offer... but mines only an rb25det gtst
  16. Are you still open to new buyers?? If you are and u can wait until next friday for payment put me down for one. Cheers
  17. ok had a chat to UAS the other day about this. They seem pretty interested in supplying what ever bits they can should we ask them and said that a discount prolly wouldnt be a prob. Now i also realised that trying to organise parts for an unknown number of cars is not really going to work as the odds of being understcoked (leaving annoyed club members) or over stocked (leaving a broke and annoyed me) are pretty high. So heres what i'm thinking (and working on putting into action). Below is a section from Dj's service lift. 1. Change Oil 2. Change Oil Filter 3. Change Fuel FIlter 4. Clean/Change Air filter 5. Change Spark plugs 6. Check brakes, pads, suspension and handbrake. 7. Change gearbox fluid I'm going to organise the parts required for the above (bar break pads... unless you all convince me otherwise) as a "premium pack". In this "pack" will be the best quality parts for the above we can get (for example motzul oils etc etc i havnt decided what sparkies to get... heh i cant find a threat where ppl agree one way or another on copper or iridium). Now i'm going to offer these packs ONLY to those who ask for it pay in advance. Others will need to source there own parts although if i'm asked close enough to when i go pick the bits up i might be able to grab a few extras. Ok now i know we have a fair few ppl interested in the day in general, how many of you are interested in getting a "pack"? I'm not sure how many members SNSW has so i'm not going to set a minimum number right now, although i'll set down 10 as a rough guide. As for the date, well i dont want to start the click ticking right now. So once i get 10 or so ppl interested in the above i'll check with UAS for a price and time needed to get the bits and confirm a date. Also keep in mind that this ISNT a totally closed event, anyone can come, but the part packs will be for RB engines only. So if u have a friend who's somehow crammed a 26dett under the bonnet of his minnie, bring him along, and if instead he wants to service his old sigma.... thats fine.... he just has to bring his own parts. Oh and one more thing.... Can anyone think of any weird or wonderful tools that we might want that one wouldnt normally have? I'm going to grab a oil filter wrench during the week but i'm thinking there might be a few tools we havnt thought of.
  18. forgot to mention it ran .5sec faster with the rear bar..... boost came on faster too. oh and its gas filled
  19. Yeah i can still drive in the mean time... so no you cant keep my CAB
  20. No worries at all matey, you werent to know.... besides... cold air boxes are more important. Oh and i bought bubba home with me.
  21. Sorry James, thought mike might have told you about it... Not to worry tho, its been ajourned for a month or so, so if you want to help (and legal advised allows it) then there is plenty of chance.
  22. Well all i'm back with an update. Fortunately i am not typing this from a prison cell while bubba, my cell mate, strokes my hair and tells me about the sweet sweet loving he's gonna give me as soon as the guards gp back to their posts. Yesterday i had my day in court. basically i got there at 9:30 am... sat quietly while i waited fopr the registra to read my name, said i was pleading guilty (to the speeding) but with an explanation. And promptly sat back down again for a few more hours till the judge arrived... read my statement, informed e that i wasnt pleading guilty, we discussed this, then agreed to come back to it in one month when we have both worked out whats going on. So, the tale continues.... in a months time. I'm abit baffled tho, The charge sheet ways speeding over 130 and dangerous driving. and has a account of the events from the cops. Now the judge said that my account of the events was not the same as that of the police hence is not a plea of guilty to the charges and the police stated. But i'm not contesting anything the cops said, not even their report, i'm merely adding an account of events that happened out of view of the police. Now before yo tell me "seek legal advice" i am on it as we speak.... next time i'll be dragging a suited up spawn of satan (read lawyer) with me.
  23. crap i forgot the faq... sorry
  24. do a search on the forums. There have been alot of posts about this. Not meaning to be blunt, but you can only retype thins so many times before it becomes easier to just type "do a search"
  25. oh and did i mention i found out that i bent my front left control arm as a result of going over some of the big lumps in that road. heh thats another reason i wouldnt speed on the roads out where i live.... they're crap
