hrmm...perhaps some metho?? make sure you keep it away from your paint though!

I had this exact same problem! its a pain in the arse but its easily fixed. I replaced my o2 sensor and cleaned AFM with carby cleaner and the problem went away.

bcpr6es with 0.8mm gap are good plugs for skylines, and even the bcpr7es if you want to go for the extra heat range - the 7's seem to respond well to boost. If you are getting an idling problem definately have a look at the o2 sensor, they are $99 to replace so pretty cheap. If you take out your o2 sensor and its got a nissan emblem on it definately change it because its probably the original one and they are only good for about 40thou kms. Other thing you can try is cleaning the afm with carby cleaner and cleaning the AAC. My skyline developed a spluttering rough idle and i was told it was a vacuum leak. I took off and cleaned every pipe and refitted all the hose clamps as tight as possible without wrecking the hose clamps ( sorry i actually wrecked about 2 hose clamps....its hard to know when to back off when tightening up those bastards! )replaced the o2 sensor, cleaned AFM, reset ECU, changed plugs and cleaned AAC and now it is fine and running a hell of a lot better. The good thing is that you can check this stuff yourself and do all this stuff in an afternoon.

All of this crap definately doesn't help the already tarnished import image....... especially down here in melbourne the cops are real tight arses.
-
sorry my bad - i mis read your post... yeah i guess $430 isn't too bad, let us know how it went once its fixed, they will do a good job though - its these guys business to do a good job and thats what they specialise in.
-
Hehe good to hear you got it fixed! I take it they did a good job? $430 isn't too bad compared to a respray that would set you back a few K...i guess with the respray u can chose a wild color but that probably increases your 'key-ability' rating amongst the turds who drive their mums banged up camira and get jealous when they see your immaculate line shimmering in a carpark. I guess from now on try not to park your car anywhere if possible!

BeltGrip..i'll have to go buy some after work; and i'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the tip!

I use NGK BCPR7ES @ 0.8mm

Got a bit of an odd problem when starting up my car when its been left overnight or for a couple of days. I go to start it up and it starts up fine but just after it starts up i hear a funny squealing noise coming from under the bonnet that lasts for about 2-3 seconds then it goes away. Once the car has warmed up you can turn the car on and off and it no longer makes the noise, and for the rest of the day it will be fine but after i leave it overnight it will do it on the first start. The car runs/idles/drives fine and i'm unsure what the problem is - someone suggested to me it might be a powersteering belt or something?!?!At the moment it is not causing any problems its more annoying - i thought i'd see if any of you guys have experienced this before and if so what do i need to check/change etc. Many Thanks as always

So the illuminated skyline bit on the boot is actually a factory option....i always thought the guy had thrown a neon in there! It definately looks pretty cool....i've had a shot at taking that piece off but couldn't manage to remove it - where do you find the clips/screws/bolts??!?!
-
Cleaning AFM with carby cleaner is a really good idea, i did it yesterday and the car runs a lot better and smoother now, plus a bit of a hunting problem that my car used to get after a good thrashing has gone away so give it a go......
-
Yeah i daresay there are some serial keyers......there have been countless posts on here about people getting keyed or getting their car broken into. 2 of my mates have been keyed alone......and in and around melbourne i have noticed other skylines with some nasty keying on em, the favourite spots seem to be boot/side.....probably as they walk past they get ur boot and side in one go. Bastards. Unfortunately there is no stopping the dickheads; the only thing you can do is be mega paranoid about where you park your car.
-
i'm sorry to hear this, that is a real shame; especially on your new line. My mate had similar done to his car, keyed from petrol tank cover to front qtr panel......and some other jerk keyed the boot aswell. What you can do before respraying is give this company a call, they are called 'Chips away', they specialise in repairing areas of paint work on cars. The good thing is that they come to you, and if you provide them with teh correct paint, the guys will sand back the area, prepare it etc etc and they bring an airbrush with them and they spray the area. My old man got this done on his holden and they did a superb job, you cant even notice the scratch that was there and they blend in the paint really well so you cant notice it. Cost around $300 to do a couple of scratches but much cheaper than a respray. www.chipsaway.com.au, give them a call and have a chat. With regards to respray, this depends on the type of paint etc, your probably looking at $2500 for your basic respray

If you really need to drive the car but dont have the money for a heavy duty you could always just go for a standard clutch for the meanwhile they are much cheaper. Yeah clutches are a bitch, a decent heavy duty and installation u are looking at like $800ish. Your other option is that nissan patrol 4WD clutches also fit into r33 gts-t's...and they are supposed to be heavy duty and the price is pretty good aswell so you could try that, there are posts in SAU about the nissan patrol clutch, how much it costs and the exact model to order....

My hicas light tends to come on sometimes after high speed or going over bumps. I have an aftermarket steering wheel fitted. Once i turn the car on and off it dissapears though. Apparently aftermarket wheels can do something to the hicas sensor or you might have a faulty hicas sensor. My car seems to drive fine even after the light has came on so i dont worry about it; however i've read in a past post about someone nailing it on the freeway and the hicas light came on and the car started changing lanes by itself at 160+kph.....I guess you could always get a hicas lock.....**** hicas.

I went down to Petroject down in bayswater, picked up a universal 3 wire O2 sensor for $99 brand new. It didn't have the harness on it, but it was a piece of piss to join the wires together, i just chopped the harness off the stock one, twisted it together with the wires off the new o2 sensor and dropped a nice big blob of solder over the wires, taped it up and reconnected. Turned on the car....a strong petrol smell was coming from the back but after it warmed up this went away. Getting MUCH MUCH better petrol economy now, was getting around 200 per tank, i've gone thru about 1/2 tank so far and got 200 already so it seems to be doing the trick. I had a mass idling problem aswell, this has also gone away! However after a hard thrashing it does hunt a bit but i'm guessing this is either a tuning issue or a vacuum leak. I'd recommend everyone with a skyline thats done over 40 thou km's to change the o2 sensor because they are a consumable part that does wear out and my 1994 33 gts-t still had the original O2 sensor in it! to think of all the months of driving it around when i could have drove the same amount of km's and only spent half as much on petrol!

Your blood is worth bottling mate, thanks.

R33 for daily driver....well there are a few issues to consider. Firstly, the canary factor. The cops will pull over any skyline they see normally, stock as a rock or done up to the sh*thouse because normally they all will have at least a BOV or something that they can stick you on so they can make their $165 by fining your ass. Parking your skyline around the place - be careful. There have been many cases of skyline owners getting keyed to the sh*thouse, and also due to the fact that r33 is easier to get into than a st kilda hooker - you will have to watch out where you park it unless u want your deck/guages and anything else of junkie value to go missing. When my r33 got broken into, it wasn't the $600 pioneer deck that got knicked that was a problem, it was the damage to the door where they got in, now i need a new door. Alarm helps but if these jerks want to jack ur car they will do it regardless.....besides so what if your alarm is going off, i doubt any bystanders or anyone walking past will jump in and say anything anyways. Petrol - lets face it, u jump into the skyline and you arent going to be able to control yourself, the pedal inevitably finds its way to full throttle whether you like it or not. Before i got my line i used to think the v6 VR Commo chewed too much petrol......now i find its pretty economical, but compare that to a 4 cylinder lazer and its got the fuel comsumption of an aircraft carrier. also u have to put optimax in these things.....i paid $1.20 for premium the other week - its a bloody joke. Its getting to the stage were me and my mates are having to think about jacking an optimax tanker to get us through a few weekends of burning around. Clocking up km's during the week - u have to service these bastards every 5,000 kms....believe you me it comes around quickly and thats just driving it on weekends. Any weekday dilly dallying will bring your service closer and closer. My 2 cents......or by the size of this post u might consider it as 10 cents worth....

SKYNUTZ, i just went down to EPA. For noise levels, pop on a stock cat and stock cat back exhaust - this will clock in 85dB so you will pass by 5dB. For emissions, i failed because my O2 sensor is stuffed, so the car is running rich. Indications that your o2 is stuffed is crap mileage out of a full tank - i was getting 200km outta full tank, even driving like a grandma chewed. Also if your blowing a bit of black smoke - excess unburned fuel because ur car is running too rich. Make sure you are running an intact CAT aswell! Intercooler or Air pod - one or the other, not both. BOV - i went down running no bov, they said i must have the stock one connected even though i'm not running any bov and no gas is being vented externally....stupid. Run a stocker to save trouble. Boost controllers - take out the solenoid from under the bonnet, they will check panels etc looking for boost controller. I had my sard trigger disconnected tucked away near the fuse panel on drivers side, i have to take it out now before going back again. ECU's - they unplug your AFM, if you are running a standalone ecu then the car wont turn off. Basically if you dont want to have to go back to EPA for a second visit make sure you address all these points. Hope this helps.
-
Performance wise i would imagine no; however the stock BOV is only good for like 1.2 or 1.5 bar, so if you are running higher levels of boost then you would need to look at an upgrade bov, however there may be aftermarket models out there that are plumbed back and can handle higher levels of boost. With regards to EPA i'll just borrow my mates stock BOV and roll on down there again.......oh yeah that and a new O2 sensor, they did a test on my o2 sensor and its cactus!
-
The pressure build up stays in your engine, yeah i heard no blow off valve isn't good for your turbo; it definately sucks the big one for gear change response, but besides the fact that it may not be good for your engine - no gas is getting vented so surely its legal? A lot of guys with massive coolers run no blow off at all; it helps them get that 'WOOP WOOP WOOP' noise from the cooler.

Hi All, Unfortunately copped a canary, and the cops did me the favour of reporting me into EPA; letter in the mail to bring my car down to EPA in macleod so they could test my car. I went down to macleod - I passed the noise test no problems - 85dB with stock cat and exhaust. I was running an atmo BOV and i removed this and blocked up the hole; at the moment i am running no blow off valve at all (not even a stock one, i have blocked up the hole for that too) They have said that I need to fit the stock pressure relief system. I disagreed with them on that point - My argument to this is that I am not running any blow off valve at all and no gas is venting anywhere at the moment. As everyone knows their problem with an atmo BOV is that the gas that it vents is not plumbed back into the system; as you all know the stock BOV does plumb back into the system. Despite what i said to them they insisted that the stock blow off valve be fitted back to the car - i explained that my current setup of no blow off valve at all is not venting any gas anywhere and not causing any detriment to the environment. Anyone else had any experience with this? Will I have to fit the stock blow off valve even though I am currently running no blow off valve and not externally venting any gasses where an atmo BOV would? thanks guys

I require a functioning O2 sensor, my current one has bitten the dust. Anyone got a second hand or better yet a new one for sale? Or perhaps someone could recommend me to a place where i can buy one? I'm in Vic btw. Cheers!

I need to buy a R33 stock cat - needed to clear EPA - or if anyone is nice enough to lend me one and I will pay to borrow it. Needed on the 23rd of June so still another week and a bit. Please PM me if you are willing to sell one and how much you would like for it.

They arrested him for giving fake name/details...when they pulled him over he gave one of his mates names. The cops didn't buy the story after checking up a few details with the boys down at the cop shop and that the owner of the car had no licence. He kept bullshitting until they arrested him
