How to bleed clutch correctly
JAPCAB replied to JAPCAB's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Ok, i've found out how to do it. For anyone that would like to bleed their clutch, this is the process to follow. Requires two people. 1) Fill up master cylinder. 2)replace cap on MC 3)get someone to push down clutch pedal and hold it down. 4) on MC, open bleeder valve to let out air/fluid. 5) tighten bleeder valve up again 6) Lift up clutch pedal. Repeat process until no air. Do the same on the slave cylinder located on the gearbox. -
Yet another spark plug thread (improved replys)
JAPCAB replied to Lone's topic in General Maintenance
I use NGK copper BCPR6ES which are pre gapped to .8mm. I changed to gapped spark plugs to overcome the missing problem i was encountering after raising the boost from stock to 1 bar. The gapped plugs solved this problem. They are nice and cheap at $4ea so if they stuff up you can just go chuck a whole new set in for $24. -
Yesterday i replaced my master cylinder because i was having a problem with my clutch not dissengaging properly. I just got a new heavy duty clutch put in aswell. I replaced the master cylinder - but how do i bleed it correctly? at the moment the clutch pedal has no tension on it, you put the pedal down and it stays down. What i have been doing is filling up brake fluid in the master cylinder, opening the slave a bit, pumping it a few times so the liquid squirts out then closing it back up again.....still no luck. What am i doing wrong? Would appreciate some help. Cheers!

its probably a combination of angle of lights and bulbs too strong. 100W is pretty bright, i use the same bulbs and dont have the same problem though...i'd say your lights are aimed incorrectly

Is my clutch about to go?
JAPCAB replied to shyr33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
i heard to test the clutch you pop it in 3rd gear on flat land, and slowly release clutch without putting any accelerator. A good clutch will stall, a worn clutch the car will start moving then stall, a clutch on its last legs wont stall and you will be able to release the pedal all the way and the car will roll. You have to release the clutch pedal very slowly. Your clutch may start 'dragging' which means when you push in the clutch pedal all the way the clutch is not dissengaging all the way. You will notice this because it will become harder to pop it into gear or when you try to pop it into gear the gears will grind. This can be combated by lifting up the clutch point. A brand new clutch will engage very low down, a worn clutch will engage right at the end of the pedal (i.e you have to lift your foot up further). A new master cylinder should fix this problem You will know when it starts slipping because you will floor it and the car will just rev out but you wont be going any faster. -
Melbourne? Whats with the EPA and the Police - discuss here

in this situation you should of asked which station the officer was from, got his name/bagde number and went and saw his superior officer as soon as possible and explained the situation. If everyone that gets treated like this did exactly this, i'm sure the officer will get a warning and will be more careful before pulling over his next car. If you are 100% in the right, and you dont do anything about it the cop will keep getting away with it. But if you aren't 100% right, say for instance your car got defected, but you were driving normally you dont have a leg to stand on. -
excellent photography skills!

i think we all need to agree to disagree! it seems like auto/manual is a personal pref. in two cars both equipped with the same mods, the auto may be faster in a drag depending on the manual drivers capability, however auto does suck for say track and the such.
-
In my opinion the only thing that comes close to manual is sequential like on the M3's or ferrari, which is basically manual because it has a hydraulic clutch. Isn't it proven on the nissan specs that the auto is slower? WIth manual there are a lot of crap drivers but if i need to change quick i wont hesitate to flat change. However, i'm really keen to sit in a auto and see for myself! my mate had a r33 gts which was converted to a turbo and the auto gearbox was crap - it seemed to ease into the next gear, whereas a manual u thump it into the next gear. Sydneykid - perhaps you can give us your opinion!!!
-
your auto is chopping manual drivers because they are shit at manual! Your auto wont make the slightest bit of difference when i flat change

what about joining two up

with regards to cops defecting cars that have nothing wrong with them i.e Gr33dy with the S15, after you recieve the defect, ask the officer which station he belongs to and promptly go see his superior officer and explain the situation. If you just got booked like 15 mins ago and u rock up to the police station, there is no way you could of changed anything so your story will hold up. Its a totally different story trying to defend yourself a few days later when you could of changed parts etc. -
you might need to invest in an aardvark or something lol.......what are the critters that eat the ants?
-
springs...couple of hundred coil overs - second hand anything from 1000 upwards. new - 2+ grand plus delivery

lolll........ set up a camera watching your car and have a flatpanel monitor in your room so you can watch it......otherwise buy 2 rotties and tie one up to each side........trust me no1 will go near it lol

i got 18 x 10's on the rear with 285/30 tyres. I got the suspension set to like 2cms above the guard. I folded up the guards myself and they fit ok, i get the tyres scrubbing here and there when going over a bump. With 1 or more people in the back it scrapes way more though! if i had the suspension raised another 1 cm i think it would be ok but yeah the wide tyres are sick, good grip and look fat, they stick out the sides of the car.

What are symptoms of coil pack failure?
JAPCAB replied to LANFOH's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
faulty coil packs can cause a popping noise from the exhaust at high revs. -
Hey there, To hit the 250rwkw mark you will require a larger turbo. On the stock however you should be able to get a good 180ish rwkw out of it. Seeing you already have exhaust, the cheapest thing you can do to gain some power would be the pod filter and upping boost by installing a boost controller. the HKS super power flow is a popular pod, you can get a second hand unit for around $100, bolts straight on. Boost controllers are easy to install so again no cost for installation. FMIC is a really good power getter, the FMIC you have from that link is ok but remember the FMIC is only part of the cost, you will also require piping. You can get piping made up for around $700-800 if you dont purchase a kit. Once you have the FMIC + piping you can install it yourself, i did mine with a mate, took an afternoon. Kits are nice because they come with everything you need to slap it right on. With the retune, the stock ECU can be chipped so you can make some changes, howver the changes you can make are minimal compared to a decent fuel computer/engine management (apexi SAFC, PowerFC) . To the best of my knowledge a chip will cost around the $500 mark? With FMIC/pod/exhaust/upped boost your car will run fine without a retune (probably really rich) its just the engine management will make it run better/squeeze out more kw's. In this case you might want to consider whether to get a chip put in or to chuck in a few more bucks and get an apexi PFC, these can be picked up for about 1000, installation is simple it plugs straight into where the stock ECU does, tuning probably chuck in another $300 ish. SAFC is about $400 mark if you are looking for a cheaper option. I'd say go the SAFC over a chipped ECU, if you have the extra cash throw in the PFC. With more boost etc, you will probably want to look into a bigger fuel pump to supply your engine adequately. Again another couple of hundred here, installation shouldn't be too deer. i've known of a few guys popping in rb25 stock turbo's in r32. The cost is about $400-500. when buying a turbo just check for shaft play - this is side to side and up and down movement of the shaft of the turbo. side to side you dont want any play at all, up and down i think a millimeter is ok but not too much more. Turbo is newer so yes more reliable. Rb25 turbo should support 12p without too much problem, however push it to 14p/1 bar and it wont last too long. power figures could I be looking at with an RB25 turbo, FMIC, pod filter and tune? - i couldnt' give you an accurate figure, my guess would be 200 with an engine management? Perhaps some of the other guys can help us here. Turbo timer - yep good idea, they are inexpensive, second hand you can get one for like $60. Installation is easy but if you cant do it an autoelec can in about 2 mins. Boost guage - yep its a good idea to see how much boost the car is running, even if you are using an electronic boost controller. If you get a turbo smart boost tee or dual stage you will need one initially just to set the boost setting. guages you can get for $100 off the forum, piss easy to install. I'm only a rookie with this stuff - perhaps some of our more knowledgeable forum users can verify some of these points?

sure i dont disagree with the fact that the cops have a vendetta against import drivers. If a cop pulls you over once the chances are if he sees you again your going to get pulled over again. Once your known to a few TMU officers u'll get your chops busted at every chance they get. There are new EPA fines of $511 for first offence and $2500 for second offence. This is no doubt a direct result from the cops sending every import car they can get their hands on into EPA. EPA are sick of guys coming in with a stock exhaust, clearing the EPA then changing it back. Its a waste of time for them. Lately with the cops sending so many people there in an attempt to kerb the repeat offenders they have started issuing fines. $511 the first time...fair enough you could pay it but $2500 fine...not many people would be willing to risk it. Its simple. If you dont want to get canaried/EPA'd then keep your car legal. The cops can pull you over and they cant touch you. If you dont want to abide by the rules then please be prepared to happily bend over and recieve when the time comes when you get pulled over. They have only launched this offensive because a) bad publicity B) revenue raising c) there loads of people doing the wrong thing and you cant get away with it anymore. why shouldn't they cash in on this opportunity? thousands of skyline owners are happily handing over hundreds of dollars each in fines. The import scene exploded and there are heaps of illegally modified cars. At the end of the day the cops arent doing anything wrong, you are by having illegal mods. -

bah i've had it with my skyline. Its an r33 gts-t, and it used to have a straight pipe exhaust (no cat or resonator). I got reemed leb style so many times it has come to the point where if i cant have my car the way i want it (with the loud exhaust/bov/boost controller etc) then i'm forced to sell it because i'll never settle driving it stock. I'm finally throwing in the rag and getting rid of something that i love so much because its costed me so much; financially and also wasting time going to and from vicroads clearing canaries, EPA, fines etc. Yes the stage has come where imports are public enemy number one and an easy pick for any cop because 9/10 skylines can be defected - you might get the odd stock example but other than that there is at least a BOV/Exhaust/bald tyres or something a cop can pick you for. At the end of the day i've come to realise that i'm in the wrong by having an illegally modified car and there is nothing you can do about it to fix the problem except by making your car legal or to be happy with getting arse ****ed. I always used to think 'f*ck the cops...after i clear this canary/EPA, everything is going back on again etc' but its only wasted me heaps of money in fines/canaries. I'm so fed up with being pulled over, when i drive its like i'm some sort of fugitive on the run from the law, always looking in my rearview for cops, i cant take my car where i want to either. One time i cleared a canary on a friday morning, and the next saturday night, bang another canary slapped on. I've had my skyline a year and in that time 7 canaries, 3 EPA, countless fines, loss of licence. Sure i had my fun but it came at a cost!
