  1. My experience is, if a cop sees you in a Skyline (mine is a dead stock looking R32 GTR) then you are going to be pulled over for a random "Licence check". Last time I got pulled over I was at a red light, cop comes around the corner and lines up behind me, as soon as the light turns green the sirens are on. Although, having said that, I have never got a ticket or anything. Just be polite and answer their questions and all is sweet.
  2. Good result. Looks similar to the dyno results Zoom magazine got. Will have to get one myself.
  3. GTR is the only way to go. Its not about the numbers on paper. As far as servicing costs. I have had an R32 GTR now for 3 years, only failure has been the water pump. The brake rotors were shot when I bought it and needed replacing. Apart from that its just been usual consumables. Tyres etc. I tell you what costs money. Idiot tuning, such as fitting a boost controller and seeing how fast the car goes at 1.3bar without addressing all the other issues.
  4. True, but baking in an autoclave is only required if you use particular resins. You can also vacumn bag it too if you like. At the end of the day you want to buy what is fit for purpose. No point paying for processes only requried for aircraft industry etc. There is nothing wrong with fibre glass inbetween carbon fibre. Both exibit good and different properties. Same goes for kevlar. Try to have a think about what you are trying to achieve then select the right materials and processes.
  5. yamutha33, I know what you mean regards cops. You just have to chose your times carefully. I won't say here in a public forum. Also a new cop has transered into the Samford area who apparently "would book his own mother rushing to hospital". Revhead, sorry you are right, there are also tools in cars who come around blink corners in your lane, I have seen this. But no, my comment was not stupid as anyone who goes up there should be fully aware of the risks, and they are mostly bikes, coming around corners in your lane.
  6. The Mt.Neebo / Mt.Glorious run is really good. As long as those two wheeled tools stay in their own lane. Good coffee shop up their for a pit-stop as well.
  7. A good day cruise is to head out towards Toowoomba, take the Esk turn off and go around Summerset Dam on the way to Montville. Can stop at the Dam for Morning Tea / Lunch and Socialise up in Montville then head home down the Highway. I have done it a few times, its a decent day out. Sorry I missed the other nights cruise. My baby is still not fully fixed.
  8. Mike Vine Turbo's in Capalaba. I've been going there for about 10 years.
  9. Make sure you have the car dyno tuned at the maximum boost you want to run. I know at least 3 Skyline owners who have blown their engines from installing a boost controller and thinking "I wonder how she goes on 19psi". Boom. Myself, I have no boost controller, fixed at 20psi. Control the power with your right foot, thats what the pedal is for.
  10. Leave it off.
  11. Back to the Bonnets. Are they outright illegal or can you get an Engineer to certify them ? Is that the same for guards, side skirts, front bars etc. Just seems there are a lot of cars driving around with composite panels ?
  12. Have you tried the ignition flick trick. Where you flick the ignition off and on quickly while rolling and the "Skyline" goes into rear wheel drive mode untill you stop. Then it reverts back to AWD. The warning light should come on the dash. The beauty of the Skyline transmission is that it is NOT locked to a fixed split like the cheaper cars you mentioned. Thats what makes it so quick.
  13. blur - sounds like a good idea. I'll come if the car is back going by then.
  14. My mechanic told me to never just hose under the bonnet. water sits in places it doesnt belong such as in the plug wells. You should always wrap all the electrical's in plastic bags if you are going to hose under there.
  15. Can't you get an Engineering Certificate for the Carbon Bonnet etc, like any other mod ?
  16. Don't get too fussed over it. How it goes on the street is all that really matters.
  17. Looks bad. Glad your ok. I had a 10km/h accident a while back and am still crying about. Don't write it off until you get some quotes from some good repairers. I have a mate who's a panel beater and I've seen him resurrect some stuff I thought was gone for sure.
  18. Bugger. Maybe next time.
  19. Do they have a 4WD Dyno ?
  20. Sounds a bit odd. How long do you shut the throttle between gear changes ?
  21. Anyway, who runs the air-con when they are going all out ?
  22. Neil - I was just thinking if you have a core like the one SydneyKid showed and imersed it in liquid and used what is called a Peltier (spelling) device you could really cool it down. Those are the devices you find in the car fridges you buy. Basically you put power in and one side gets really cold and the other really hot. So you put the cold side in the liquid and put an electric fan on the hot side. They work really well and can be bought in different sizes. Just looked it up in Farnell catalogue. Called "Peltier-Effect Heat Pumps". Cost between $100 and $200 depending on size.
  23. The defect for PODS is also sound pollution, your car must not exceed a certain db level when driving. I think this is probably enforcable in all states, same as loud exhausts etc. Its just QLD police are nicer than other states and not so would up against us. Although the idiots down the Gold Coast are trying their hardest to make the police hate us all. Thanks to those clowns, police now have laws against traffic light racing, highway racing within the limit etc. My mate got done for "Displaying Speed".
  24. I spoke to the race tyre specialist, he says the RE-540S will be around for another 3 years. They are still the compliance tyre for Saloon Car racing this year.
