  1. Maybe the relay has gone ?
  2. "ABS Brakes" franchise sells them.
  3. I have Slotted DBA rotors front and rear on by R32 GTR running EBC Greenstuff pads on the front and BlackStuff at the rear. I haven't noticed any real fade since this upgrade on hills or track. Pretty happy with them. My next mod is a set of brake ducts, I'm half way with the moulds just to make them bullet proof. I also have some brake fluid bled after each track day.
  4. Only problem with Hobbs switch system is that it runs on boost and does not consider demand. For example, my GTR comes on full boost at 4000rpm and stays that way until 8000rpm. The engines consumption is a lot different between these rpms. The hobbs switch method of tuning only allows for a compromise setup. I also had this same system on my Starion, hobbs switch spraying water into the turbo intake.
  5. In the Zoom Magazine "Yearbook" they do an article and dyno work with GTR and adjustable cams and got an additional 20rwkw with no loss down low. They assume it was part of the Nissan detune to stay in the 206kw realm. The settings were in the article. My next mod
  6. I agree, I've run 20psi for 2 years or so now with the standard gasket and faultless. I think a decompress with head porting is the way to go.
  7. The power of Water injection isn't if you just install it. As you said it will help with detonation and thats it. Where you win is that with it you can wind up the boost and forward the ignition timing. As I said above, on my Starion I got 50rwhp with it. Your right with the intercooler sprayer, it is great for street use, my mate runs the circuit from AutoSpeed and says it is really good.
  8. Just look up "Speed Cut Defender" they range from $250 to $350. I've even seen one with a 240km/h speedo.
  9. I guess it depends if your after Drag or Circuit racing. Very different requirements on the tyres.
  10. Are you sure, I thought it was Methanol. Everything I have read says best is 50/50 water/methanol. But has to be at the right mix. That's why I'm building the direct port injection controller for my W/M system (see above).
  11. I had the head ported and decompressed the cylinders slightly while having them cleaned up. now run 20psi. Still using standard head gasket. Been like this for 2 years no problems.
  12. I paid $38K for my 1992 model 3 years ago. It now has 67K on the clock. Just sad seeing the price drop. But I guess the cheap end of the range are the flogged out ones with high Km around 1989. Thats what I tell myslef anyway
  13. Excellent. I remember picking up my Skyline. Enjoy !
  14. Yea car yard Warrenty is a scam anyway. They use that warrenty agent and if you read the small print all the repaires are capped. They put this "At least your turbo's will be covered' crap on you. Then if you actually read it, after you've got the book home you will see they cover the first $150. Man that doesn't even get it out the car. And it is like that for everything. Read it carefully before handing over good (modification) money. ----------------------------------------------------- Pentae - What is the specs on that R32, age etc ?
  15. I run RE-540S as everyday tyres. I don't mind the road noise (only bad at 80km/h) and as for wear: Tyre set 1 (NangKangs): 8000Km Tyre set 2 (Yoki 539's): 17000Km Tyre set 3 (RE-540's): So far about 5000K and they still look good, I've also done a track day with them. I think for the hard core driving most of us do only a set of racing tyres are up to the task. My NangKangs were not worn out as such, the tread blocks were torn out.
  16. GTR Core is 600x300x70 PWR on the Gold Coast have a chart to calculate intercooler size for power output. The GTR core is good for around 400Hp to 450Hp. A core 610x285x94 is good for 600Hp.
  17. Hi Sydney Kid, You will find that over the years factories have fitted all sorts of equipment to cars that is no longer in use. I would not use that as a concrete point. Also as I said, cars that are being driven hard do not require it because of the huge air flow. The main market of EVO's and STI's are traffic light racers, those are the guys with heat soak to reduce. The Rally cars have them fitted to gain every poof-teinth of advantage, such as between stages where heat soak may effect them. Another thing to consider is that on race tracks you are not allowed to drop fluid, so they cannot be used. ------------------------------------------------- To Owned. You are correct with what you are saying for in-engine water injection or W/M injection as discussed above. For intercooler sprayers, it doesn't really matter on the volume of water, if you consider a Water to Air intercooler it is just an intercooler core submerged in a tank of water.
  18. If you want the ultimate road semi slicks go for the Bridgestone RE-540S. They are a true R compound tyre. Just fitting them and no other mod reduced my lap times by over 2 secs.
  19. Don't underrate King Springs. A lot of the race teams use them. I don't see how they could try and make a spring do what a damper is suppose to. It is not physically possible. A damper's job is to stop the spring from oscillating.
  20. 1. Using the AirCon. The air con does not create enough air to be of any value to the cooling of the charge. Think about how much air the engine consumes, 2.5litre at 8000RPM. Then think how much air comes out of the vents in the cabin. Also how will you stop the pressure from the turbo from blowing down the air con pipe as it is not pressurised. 2. Water Methanol (W/M) Injection. This is totally different to intercooler sprayers. W/M is sprayed into the hot air charge to cool down the compressed air. Sometimes it it sprayed in front of the turbo as this is easier to control but slowly destroys the compressor wheel. W/M is of huge value, on my last car (Starion) I had it fitted and gained 50Hp at the wheels. Although given the different design of the intake plenum chambers a simple W/M spray will not work. As the plenum is side mounted to the intake runners, the heavy (even a micro mist) water will travel down to the end pistons easier than making a sharp right turn into piston no 1. So piston 1 starves and piston 6 drowns. This is why I am currently designing a direct port 3D mapped W/M system for my GTR. 3. Intercooler Water Sprays. These are of little value to a car that is being driven hard, such as circuit racing or hammering through your favorite mountain range, as the Intercooler already has a huge air flow through it. If you are traffic light racing or doing something like a motorkahana or even drag racing, they are of value because of the heat sink effect discussed above. If the core is sitting still it will heat up and not cool the charge of the off-the-line blast until the air flow has started to cool it down. That's my 2 cents.
  21. My last set of tyres were the Yokihama 539's. I thought they were great, really progressive at and beyond the limit of traction without any nasty characteristics. I also measured 1g cornering with an accelerometer around the big round about at the end of Centenary highway and Ipswich Rd. I've now upped the anti with a set of Bridgestone R compound RE540S, now they have grip. Reduced my lap times by over 2secs.
  22. Last time I used Bob Jane they did a pretty average job, the cambers were out by 1/2deg on each side. They said it was worn bushes which was shyte as I had them replaced just before. I'd suggest using Tyre Tech in Albion for general setup etc. The guys there are brilliant and most of them race. When they set up the car it was 1.37, 1.38 from left to right. In other words "Spot On".
  23. Fulcrum parts are good (car has all their bushes installed) , but they over charge like you would not believe for labour. I got a quote to change by struts and springs, come in at $400 so a mate and I did it in my driveway in under an hour. The longest part was compressing the springs with they would have done using a rattle gun. Buy there stuff and have installed elsewhere.
  24. I've been recommended to Leda Suspension, contact name is Bruce. 32053165. I've been told he has set up lots of hot street and race GTRs. I haven't been out there myself yet ? Let me know what you think if you contact him.
  25. Don't like it much. I reckon the current irra of hot turbo cars from Nissan has ended for a while, if not forever. Get a good current model and savour it. I've been reading that the next GTR may not even make it into production. The same happened with the last series GTR, the entire eighties almost went without until 1989. We may be in for another hypo car drought. I'm not saying the 350Z isn't a cool kick arse car, but I love the sound of turbo's winding up on boost !
