UPDATE: done replacing coil + spark, car has much more smooth / power feeling, check engine light gone, code cleared, disgusting (not raw) fuel smell remains, anyone know why this is the case? Checked fuel cap too, it's not leaking or anything

thanks for the reply! got my nissan consult cable today and had the O2 fluctuating between 0.3 - 0.8V at 2500RPM stable, so I don't think my O2 sensor is broken, but anyhow, I will definitely keep an eye out for you to see whats compatible with the R34 model and any alternatives

Yes my guess is the alternator belt has come too loose when it's cold and when you drive and heat it up, it expands so the sound goes away, what u need to do is get a ratchet wrench and socket to tighten the belt, not too tight or it will reduce the lifespan of the belt Can anyone second my opinion, I'm a noob at cars

EDIT: thanks for the help, what I did was install the USB drive properly from the download and NOT windows update, changed into ECUTALK and went into run device manager and input the correct COM port then it was good

I bought this cable off ebay which cost 71 dollars inc delivery and it took about 1 week to arrive, received it this morning, installed the software tried plugging it in and this is what happened: ERROR missing com.dat file and PLEASE CONNECT TO ECU plug. It's not a snug fit when I tried connecting it.... did I get ripped off, should I get a refund? Did I order the wrong one and should have ordered the cheap 14 dollar one? ARGH SO FRUSTRATING! Pics below of what happened. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230623764566&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

which ones you using? splitfires? i ordered 6 yellow jackets for $420, heard that they'd last a while (hopefully)
-
oh right, yeah i wasn't lol heres the thread that said: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/192015-diy-changing-coilpacks-on-r34-gtt/ poster number 7
-
okay thanks for all your help!
-
i've successfully taken it apart and put it back together for reassurance, now do i need to put silicon over where the spark plugs where the coilpacks fit on? for better durability?
-
I've done heaps of searching around and it seems that the main topic being covered are the R32 - R33 sensors. From the sticky thread I have concluded that the EL ford sensor doesn't work for R34s is this correct? And our sensor from kudos motorsport costs roughly $220? http://www.kudosmotorsports.com/catalog/nissan-sensor-lambda-oxygen-genuine-nissan-skyline-r34-25gt-25gt4-25gtt-rb25de-rb25det-neo-p-187.html I'm happy to rewire the 3 wires, what's a cheaper alternative, I've spent heaps of hours looking around for one, but no topic can discuss this. R32-R33 only cost 90 dollars to replace, how come R34s cost 220 dollars?? Thanks for your help!
-
i paid 20 for diagnostic (coilpacks - this wasn't the problem according to them) i paid 20 for testing i paid 20 for spark plugs i paid 160 for 2 hours of mechanical work adds up to 220, but the thing is, it didn't fix anything NOW I KNOW HOW TO DO IT MYSELF!!
-
okay thanks for that i'm replacing them on monday, and since the car is 98k kms old might as well do the o2 sensor too, will save me more money in the long run if i drive highways heaps, THANKS

I have started to notice a very rich fuel smell when the car is cold and being warmed up idle over the past 3 weeks. Engine light is on, my yellow jackets and iridium spark plugs are arriving and ready to install on monday, considering ordering an O2 sensor for fuel efficiency, what could this white smoke + rich fuel smell be? I've checked the oil levels, water and fuel cap leakage (makes a pshhhh sound when opened so that can't be it), or is it normal to smell really strong fuel around the car when it's warming up + heaps of white smoke? Searched around could it be fuel injectors / filters? Or is it just the exhaust condensing when it's cold? Car is stock, exhaust is stock, little or no change to idling... Car: R34 N/A MT Help welcome! Thanks for the help previously too =D
