Different Series Tyre Sizes
boxheadmr replied to boxheadmr's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Duncan, i thought some of the porsche guys ran sizes like this, interestingly what size slicks are common around this size. -
Would like a little help with finding out what series uses what size tyres, i am looking at wheel sizes and widths but want to make sure i get a common size that a particualr series uses so the tyres won't be as expencive. looking at a Semi Slick tyre (RE55, R888 etc) I was using 235/45 R17 but am going to a wider rim, most probally a 18x10.5 but could go a 17x10 if it is more cost effictive for the tyres. Tyre size would want to be anything from a 265/35 or 30 R18 to i think a 315x35 or 30 R18 or for the 17x10 could go a 255/40,35 or 30 R17 to a 305/40,35 or 30 R17. What racing series uses these size tyres?

Pencil in the 2008 event as it is on the October Long Weekend -
I have the 2200kg tow kit put onto my VZ V6 commadore sedan and it tows great, probally does abot 15ltrs/100klms with the car on and can sit on 110klm/h very easily. Even going up Mooney Mooney it sits on 100klm although reving the guts out of it. Big boot for the tool box and jack bt and pieces and luggage, rear seat for the passengers and usally put spare wheels in the car that is being towed. I used to have a VS commadore V6 which also did a stellar job but recomend getting the tow kit with the bags which i have in the VZ as you can lift the rear of the car up so it is not dragging it's arse on the ground. You could pick up a second hand commadore for fairly cheap so maybe this is an option (could go a station wagon if you want). Matt

Newcastle Mg Club 50th Anniversary King Edward Park Hill Climb
boxheadmr replied to boxheadmr's topic in New South Wales
it is a great little hillclimb, the narrow bit is called 'the pinch" for obvious reasons i think they use the hay bales after the pinch to slow the cars down becasue the right hander before the hairpin you can get a fair bit of speed up in a short distance and a torana actually spun out and hit the power pole on the day. There was two speed signs, one just before the pinch - think best was 106klm/h and then i think i got as fast as 80klm/h on the second one but not sure as i was not looking just was told by friends there. Duncan you should try and make it next year is a lot of fun and great spot to have it. -
I entered the Newcastle MG Club 50th Anniversary King Edward Park Hill Climb on the 20th October and had a ball, i was able to put a camera in my car with the help of Dumhead and tape my 4 runs on the Saturday and put them up onto youtube. A big thanks must go out to Shane, Nicky and Michele for helping with the car and packing up on the Saturday afternoon i had a ball and will try and make it again next year and improve on my 42.9 second best run. I have posted this up on a few forums to try and drum up a little interest in the event as it surely is a magnificent area to run such and hill climb and can highly recommend it to all. Please enjoy the footage and feel free to leave your comments on youtube if you like the footage. The event was great, the speach at the begining of the day by the son of rajab mayor seemed very positive and i think the event might be here for another 50 years or so (it was the 50th year of running the event this year). I had fun and enjoyed myself, great event to take family, friends along to as well as the better half half becase of the view of the beach and the relaxed environment, managed a best of 42.9 just not as quick as the gts4 (godzilla.....LOL @ guy on mic) but not too bad for the first time i have ever competed in the event. Tyres become an issue as you just can't get enough heat into them in the short track, i think to get the best out of it you need to go to a softer compound something like the GGG's in the Toyo's. aza - i hope u got your chair back, we left it with the officials tent in the pits, when we were packing up it was picked up in error and then when i looked in the back of the ute i noticed it. How can i find out for sure? I am interested in attending but wanted to work out the details
-
Could i get some details for this event - Firm costs - Licence requirements. Most of the open days are run by one of the clubs down there and you would have to join this club. Is this the case with this event? If everything works out i would be keen to come down for the weekend.
-
I would probally barging more for them and see how you go, if you can get a set to test and then if they are OK bargin for the rest.
-
they usally have a bar code type number on them, i know with the TOYO tyres the last 4 dig are the year - ie.2004
-
Just be careful to check the date of manufacture for these tyres as with all racing tyres they have a best before date.

Hi Allan, Would i be able to see a picture of the unit please, the links don't seem to work? Thanks Matt

V-Sport in Arndell Park is the Sydney arm of Comp Firction. I am reading that you have tried the DS2500's which i have found to be a good street pad and OK race pad. The rear DS2500 pad on my car crapped itself after repeated 45min sessions at Eastern Creek and i have now gone to the DS3000's which are a good track only pad. One pad i found to be good with mimimal brake dust for both the spirited track day and driving around town was the Endless NA-R's. They are oftern overlooked as they are not easily availabe off the shelf but my personal experience has been good with these pads and they hold up well on supersprints and open days.

It was the most amount of track time i have ever had at eastern creek, i would have keep going like Banzai but the rear brakes gave up the ghost the session after lunch. Must have been the kazillion laps we were doing at full pace. Ended up with best lap of a 1:49 which bettered my PB and was quiet pleased overall.
