What Clutch Do You Have?
kevlo948 replied to W0rp3D's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
+1 for NPC organic clutch. Feels like a stock clutch but grabs like a HD. Tell them what power you are after and they'll sort out the rest. Affordable too! -
Just a quick update, I've just spoken to Paul from performance wise. He's a top guy and agreed to send a replacement coilpack over for me (this was at 1am last night!).
-
ahh right birds i forgot to do that. I'll do it before i spend drop cash on the splitfires. cheers fellas
-
haha ok fine i guess i deserve the flaming... let it rip boys ><
-
haha sorry birds I actually did what you said straight after the post. To behonest I must have missed your post. Anyway I've replaced the second spark plug and tested the coilpacks. Second coilpack is dead! So now im thinking the white mist is unburnt fuel from the second cylinder (the smell is incredibly strong) Sorry Birds I didnt mean to disregard your suggestion. I pretty much woke up this morning and started on it. I'll be ordering Splitfires and I'll let you guys know. Once again thank you guys muchly!

I've just taken out my sparkies and coilpacks. Attached are pictures of the 6 spark plugs. Spark plug 1 refers to the cylinder closest to the radiator. I checked the plugs like you guys said and the only one that was slightly different was the 2nd plug. It was black and had a very distinct smell of fuel. it was ever so slightly moist. Anyway I checked my coolant levels and it hasn't dropped. Checked my oil levels and oil cap (no white residue on the oil cap). I'm getting really worried about the car now...I spent so long researching before I did this build making sure i was doing it right. Once again, your help is greatly appreciated! http://s1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii542/kevlo948/

thanks for the replies guys. If its a fouled spark plug or an ignition issue then what would be causing the white smoke? I'll take a look at the plugs and coilpacks tomorrow when theres some light. What should I be looking for on the plugs?

oh and also forgot to mention that before the turbo and everything was fitted, a compression test was done. Results came up with 165 across all cylinders. The car is putting out 341rwhp and is a very safe tune.
-
also forgot to mention that there was a very rich petrol smell coming out of the exhaust

Driving along today at about 40-50km/hr my car turned into a subaru... It started chugging and sounding like a boxer. I limped it home (about 5km) and called my tuner. I tried starting it again but when I got it started, i saw thick white smoke bellowing out of my exhaust. I've recently had the following fitted to my car (by Garage 101, great guys btw)...by recent i mean a week ago. All items are brand new. GT3071r with braided oil & water lines 550cc injectors VDO fuel pump Haltech Platinum Pro (MAP sensor ecu so no AFM) New NPC clutch I'm led to believe an oil seal on the turbo has given way but i have no idea how this could happen (if it were the case). The new turbo was fitted with new genuine garret gaskets. A few other points to make: The car was fitted with Yellow jacket coilpacks about a year ago Spark plugs were gapped as it was missfiring on the dyno (this fixed it) Please any advice would be great. I'm racking my brains as to what the problem could be.

haha cheers Daniel that sounds great for what I am after. I'll pop into MTQ to have a chat with them. thanks again.

Daniel, are you able to pass me a link to the 3071r with sonic housing as I cant find it? (Also, how big is this housing) The GT3071r internally gated was my other option and it seems as this will be the way to go. Originally i was after the 0.64 rear housing but I have heard this smaller housing has trouble with boost control. Because of this, I'll be looking into the standard 0.86 rear housing. With regards to fitment, I am unsure about a few things regarding the 3071 and I cant find a clear answer. All I need is for it to bolt onto the stock manifold and dump (oil/water lines will be sorted and custom intake piping will be made). What is needed to make this possible (i.e. from manifold to turbo & from turbo to dump) Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate the help.

I am currently tossing up between 2 versions of the GT2871r for an rb25. I'm looking for a responsive 250-270kw with decent top end. The first is the GT2871r 0.64 52 trim (AKA GT-RS). The second is the GT2871r 0.86 56 trim. I will be replacing the rear housing with either an OP6 or standard r33 rear housing so it bolts into the stock location. Intake piping will be modified to suit. My question is this, which version of the 2871r would be more appropriate and is the OP6 housing worth it?

thanks for the responses guys, will get it replaced

Ok so I was having a look under my bonnet today and I found some pretty deep cracks on the big white clutch fan. I have some questions: 1) Should I be worried? (what happens should it fail) 2) Is it hard to change the clutch fan? (i'm talkin labour here) Also, this may sound stupid but i was thinking of reinforcing these cracks by applying some super strength plastic bonding glue...stupid idea? I am aware that it is easy to source a replacement fan for very cheap but I am just enquiring as to whether labour is gonna kill me or if I can do it myself Other than that, any help would be appreciated!.

something similar happened to me about a week ago. motherf***ers came with 2 cars, a falcon and believe it or not an r33 (saw the tail lights as they sped off). cant wait to pole them in the head if they come back.
-
where did u get it done garth? and is that including gasket and studs?
-
thanks for the info! ill most likely take it back to the exhaust shop to get it done then. ill definately get them to machine it as well.
-
ahh awesome. so would it be worth doing with a major service? I have no idea what is involved when changing the timing belt and water pump. (maybe changing the gasket is on the way?)

Hey guys, I recently had a 3inch dump pipe and highflow cat installed by an exhaust workshop to complete the turboback on my series 2 r33 gts25t. The job was quick but the exhaust shop found a slight leak from the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head. They said it wasnt a huge problem but I will need to fix it sooner or later. He mentioned that the gasket would need to be replaced and the job would cost roughly $600 to $700. I have searched the forums and the workshop is definately right. The ticking sound from the leak is only noticable from a cold start and goes away once the car heats up (mechanic said once the car heats up it expands and partially closes the hole) I have a few questions: 1) I want to replace all the gaskets (and studs) that are "on the way". Would this just be the gasket and studs from the manifold to the head? 2) Would I save some money if I get this done while getting my major service done? (I am planning on doing my major service soon...timing belt, water pump) 3) Would I be able to get the gasket and studs from Nissan? Quick details on the car: 1997 R33 Series 2 GTS25t Stock as rock (besides a turboback exhaust and pod filter) Any help would be appreciated!!
