  1. I suppose we'd have to hope that the public in general has some common sense and realises that all cars can reach 115kph in a street, not just the hi-perf 'lines and such. Failing that, it's our responsibility as drivers (as I plan on being a skyline owner sometime this year) to set an example to those people, and disprove these assumptions that people like ourselves who enjoy cars and driving are hoons. My condolences to the man who was killed and his family, but let this not set an example for the responsible majority who drive sensibly. Drive with your head, not the big pedal. ...just my two cents all

    Dam Nice

All this talk about driving manuals with auto licenses, too bad you didn't go to the VicRoads office where I got my P's. I did my test in my car at the time (87 Magna auto... and passed thankyou very much ) but they gave me a full license, no restrictions, nothing saying I couldn't drive a manual. It's been three years and I'm on my full license and haven't driven a manual since. Just goes to show it's not just the cops that make mistakes. ... now I'm gonna need somebody to teach me to drive stick when I get my S13 convertible, any offers??? lol
  3. Yeah, some good PR for SAU, and maybe better PR for skyline owners. Hell, bikies and harley riders do it, it's good to go charity stuff.
  4. Yeah, run an annual pledge to hire out a track for the day and just have a day of GTRs going round. I'll toss in $20 for that.
  5. Maybe we should start a GTR foundation to bring people into the light??? lol "The GTR Foundation, bringing the joy of riding Godzilla to those less fortunate"
  6. I think it's silly not to at least have third party. I just can't help but think I'm gonna run up the ass of a SL500 one day, so I'd be silly not to have it. Fortunately I've been driving for about 4 years, and my insurance is pretty good, I've been running quotes through Justcars and got $1499 on a '96 GTS-T at $20,000 with $2000 aftermarket wheels (that's rating 2- 50% NCB). I thought I'd be paying like 3K for it, can't wait to get my car
  7. I'm considering getting an S13 convertible in a month's time, then moving onto a Stagea as a sleeper, but hell, if a Skyline's pulling that much attention, I'm gonna have to change my gameplan. haha
  8. Haha, if we give this guy a ride, he'll wanna take one home with him. Failing that, we're stuck with 'im! But hell, if he's a skyline freak, we're welcome to have him. Welcome to the land of Oz mate, throw a PRAWN on the barbie! (bloody hell, what's a shrimp???)
  9. That'd be lecture rates, I doubt it's $100 an hour for the whole 8 hours or so. I don't know what lecturers/professors get paid, most of mine had already made their money in private sector consulting (lucky buggers come back to tease us)
  10. Nazi gold inside the wheel arch panels maybe???
  11. Yeah I know the one, it's a Darwin Award (but found to be BS anyways) http://www.darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin1995-04.html Happy reading! .... got boost? lol
  12. Bugger the harness, just strap his ass to the top of the turbine. If he's lucky and not get his head torn off, he'll just singe his butt-butt. :flamed:
  13. Argh, argh aaaaarrrggghhh car loans!!!!! Sorry, just had to say that, but those things are evil just like credit cards. I've been there, it's a much better feeling when you own it outright. There's no struggling to make payments, especially with 25K, it'd be at a fair rate of interest too, probably twice that of a house loan. Does anybody know if they let you mod the car if it's under finance?
  14. Am I the only one who's optimistic and thinks he can get it before he's 30??? Ya all pessimists! :goddam:
  15. I can only concur with Leewah, work hard and save. If price is the motivating factor, go for an R32, they'll set you back around 20-25K (anybody feel free to correct me here). Otherwise if you want an R34, start saving your pennies, and open a managed investment account, stockmarket's gonna give good returns this year (just some friendly unsolicited financial advice... geez, my degree does come in handy!)
  16. Just to throw another question into the debate here, and this is open to everybody, old, new and not-yet drivers. What do you think of stricter license testing for owners and drivers of performance vehicles? Like advanced driving and manouvering courses that are assessable to obtaining a licence to drive such vehicles. I know it'd be a legislative nightmare getting the whole thing sorted out and what power the cut-off applies to and all, but I've been thinking about the idea for a while now, and I think we can all agree that somebody shouldn't own a performance vehicle, skyline, rx-7 or whatnot, without the skills to drive them at their best, and drive them safely while doing so. I know I might be painting with a broad brush saying that everybody speeds, but even then, people without fast cars speed, I'm guilty of that.
  17. Damn, is everybody reading my mind??? I've been considering an '89 RX-7 cab import as a good cruiser before committing to a skyline. Anybody got any experience with the cabriolet?
  18. My thoughts exactly, save it for the freeways and highways when nobody's around. Enjoy your car, don't ruin it.
  19. Yeah, an R33 at 16, that's cool. I got my first car when I was 17 and on my L's, an '87 magna, my family's mitsubishi crazy, but they're good reliable cars I'll be onto my third car in 4 years when I get the skyline
  20. Sounds like a good enough reason for you to go to court over the fine. I'm not sure how detailed the speed guns are, but if they detect speed down to one decimal place, you've got a good case to say what are the odds of both your cars doint EXACTLY the same speed at the same time? You can then claim he booked the wrong person and put his correct use of the speed gun into doubt.
  21. You make a good point Rezz, I admit I haven't seen them in the flesh. I concede some (including myself) of having a knee-jerk reaction to the changes, but I'll be the first to admit it'll be an exciting change at the end. Even if things go south, they'll learn from their mistakes and come back even better than before, I just worry about the short term future. Edit: (after a few mins hard thinking (yeah it hurt)): Who knows, maybe Renault will bring some F1 technology to Nissan, like BMW and the M3.
  22. Laser or IR, the beam would actually be larger than a license plate, and although police are trained to aim at the plate, the beam will reflect off other surfaces of the car. At closer range the license plate technique might work, but by then you were tagged a few hundred meters back up the road http://www.audiworld.com/news/03/lidatek/content.shtml
  23. sorry to hear that dude, it's a sad sad world when people get off from ruining others property, hope it's fixed soon as good as new
  24. I'd hate to see Nissan become "Euro-ised" and lose the character their cars are known for, sportiness, speed and handling. Just a matter of time to see whether they turn old favourites like the skyline or whatever they're calling it now into a sports wannabe luxury tourer and target that market...
  25. He lied and kept the cameras running while they're being tested, any cameras that come back clean will have their fines sent out. Don't worry, he'll get his revenue. It was on the news a few nights back Bracks is so incompetent he couldn't run a bath letalone a whole state. Bring on the next election... better yet, bring back Jeff haha!
