  1. So, if I am reading this right, these two points on the circuit board actually come out of the box in the main cable? I would prefer to splice/solder something outside of the box. Anyone know anymore detail as to which wire(s) it is?I am also looking for an "ignition on" wire, in the boot. My plan is to simply get out my multimeter, and test each of the pins in each of the TV plugs, unless someone can point me in the direction of a better idea?
  2. Its not so much the trim inside the car, more so getting the wires from the engine bay, into the passenger area; and the cable from my reverse camera into the boot. I will look at it a little more closely this weekend, because, as I said, if it all works, its going to be damn hard to disconnect it...Thanks for the offer, I do live in Sydney, and I will look on G35Driver for specifics (and hopefully photos/instructions) on routing wiring
  3. I have it all up and running at home to my plasma screen, using a cheap power supply. Its now really only connecting it all up. I have no idea how I would feed the wire from the battery all the way to the boot, and from the boot to under the dash or to the center console (USB). I have also purchased a reverse camera (CCD) which will need the wires fed up from where my rear plate is up into the boot. This long weekend, I will just "test wire" it all up (ie cables running outside of car), and get the final install done by a professional, possibly at the same time I get cruise control fitted. I think most places would either be not interested or overcharge heavily simply to route wires through the car (ie no expensive hardware). Its going to be hard to pull it out if it works, and my Blazt OBDII cable also come in time,
  4. I basically came to record the answer in case anyone else is interested. Because I am using the NTSC video in, the actual resolution is controlled by the NTSC standard. Looking on Wikipedia That's the vertical resolution, and there are all sorts of opinions on the actual horizontal resolution (its analogue), so I will be running my display card at 640x480. Which also aligns exactly to my phones resolution also; which I will be viewing on the screen for navigation (TomTom), and I will also be interested to see a little phone app I have that plots and records the G-Forces. ooo... almost forgot, I am using a "HIS Radeon 9250" which I bought from a shop for $65 (sells on eBay for less), It allows you to chose NTSC or PAL, set the refresh rate (60hz) and resolution, move and size the picture around the screen to make it fit. I have tested it on my home TV which allows me to specify to only accept an incoming signal of NTSC, and it looks good. Haven't had the chance to try it on the actual car's screen yet.
  5. Slightly off topic, I didn't know where else to post it, and thought it must of been noted before, but is that a v35 coupe on the Maguires bottle? http://www.meguiars....Maintain&show=1
  6. I am using the Composite In, into the TV unit, using the cable I got from you. There are a number of video boards that do NTSC (60hz), but I also read of people complaining of various "issues" when going into a TV, directly from a computer.I have seen on YouTube people using the TV out from windows mobile phones using composite, and it looks good (eg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjnABOFkJZw&feature=related). My home computer also has a video out (S-Video, and composite adaptor). I have plugged it into my Plasma, and apart from the fact it was set to hi-Res but TV is lowres, it looks good, But I don't know how or if I can switch it to NTSC, or if it is actually even outputting PAL; I think my plasma switches automatically, it appears to when I switch my set top box between PAL and NTSC. I was hoping someone else has done exactly what I plan to do, and therefore could recommend a video card that is known to work, well.
  7. Hi, I have been searching high and low, with no success (including on mp3 car). I was wondering if there is anyone who has installed a Computer in their v35 (or M35 I guess) using the standard navigation screen as the computer screen? and what video card you used? Everyone I have seen, has replaced or added an extra screen. I wish to use the standard screen. I can find video cards that output in NTSC, but was hoping that someone else has explicitly gone down this path, and the experience they have had?
  8. What are people using to switch between a reverse camera, and a tuner or DVD player, both going into the AUX socket? I am thinking of making a two wire relay switch (off the reverse lights), but thought there must be a more elegant method already in use?
  9. If I was a girl, at least I could throw it in my handbag. My extra immobiliser FOB would be with the key, so if they have one, they would have the other. I will however be checking with my insurance to make sure its satisfactory with them.If they do not have the key, is the factory standard immobiliser known to be otherwise easy to circumvent?
  10. Was it simply vandelism, or theft of something in the car, or an attempt for the car itself?
  11. I was in the same position. The way I checked if mine had an immobiliser at all, was to get the local keysmith to cut a simple key ($15), and attempt to start the car with this plain key (ie no fob). When I tried, the engine turned over, but it did not start. So it obviously has an immobiliser. However, with no extra clicky-thing, I would guess its the standard Nissan one? By "incorrect" do you mean it should not have passed compliance like this? I just got mine from a dealer, and am still in warranty, so would expect that they have to bring the car up to compliance before it could of been sold? Are you talking about a "clicky-thing"? or is there an option for something smaller? I would hate to have to carry around two clicky-things.
  12. I installed the AUX cable I got from Chris on the weekend (and also did a conversion with Andy, and a tint), and got a bit of an unexpected free bonus. The previous talk of how the AUX does not work by default while in motion, is actually only for the video, the audio keeps playing; i completely missed that. So, until I get my car-pc set up, I have an MP3 player connected to AUX in. It's actually pretty supprising that the audio from the MP3 keeps playing while you are in one of the standard screens (eg fuel consumption) My 6-stacker CD player is jammed, and AM radio was not putting me in a happy place.
  13. If anyone wants to give me a heads up for any problems they have encountered, feel free! please? The big questions in my head right now is the wiring of the DC-DC PSU (with all the start-up and shut-down specific wires, and wiring that to my motherboard & car ) anyone? The motherboard arrived last week (with 2.4GHz hyper-threaded CPU & 4GB of memory). Hopefully the disk will arrive this week, and I will source the power supply as well. I forgot to mention in the last big post, I will also be getting a new video board that has an S-Video out in NTSC ($50-$80 new). I already have an S-Video to RCA plug from my current home PC that I do not use.
  14. Yeah, I read about that as an option, but It was pushing my time spent on setting it up and messing about.
  15. Wait a sec, do you have a "Touchscreen" display??? Do you have to take the dash out to get to the surrounds of the screen (ie can the screen "casing" be taken off without removing the dash)?
  16. see, this is where I know the 32GB is way over . Its simply for the system disk. I plan on using a 64+GB (possibly muiltiple, or even a 125GB) USB stick(s) for my media storrage, with a cabin USB port for new and transfer of stuff. The PC I think has 4-6 USB ports on the board (it hasnt arrived yet). I also have a lot of media. Actually, just reading over this, your right, I could use the 32GB disk for a cut down copy of my media library. I do however plan / hope to use the PC for other software (car related) such as OBDII display (on the OEM screen), navigation (currently use my mobile and can "Remote desktop" onto it from the PC to show on OEM screen) I have a bad habbit of just upsizing. I estimated I would need around 2-4GB for XP and a front-end (at this stage XBMC is the front runner), and on my PC, I went for all memory slots filled, to give me 2GB. So far its cost me: $15 Motherboard (2.4GH P4) $60 Memory (2GB) $15 postage $100 12v power unit for PC $80 32GB DOM (ie SATA SDD) Plus the AV plug from Chriss I still need to get the case (I am thinking something like a big tuppaware box... The cabling (should only be a few wires and fuses). Any USB cables will be the biggest expense here. I also plan on getting a 240v to 12v transformer so I can build it and run at home before I install it ($90 from DSE) In the first instance, I am looking at a small cordless keyboard with a touchpad mouse I saw the other day (I think 15cm x 7cm with QWERTY keyboard), I think it was either $50 or $80. In the future I will probably fit a USB touch screen overlay over the OEM screen. Once I get it all up and running, I will probably get Chris's contact in Sydney, to put all the wires behind panels and under carpets etc
  17. My solution (in progress) is to fit a Carputer. I would be interested to know how your additional DVD player is hooked into the std screen? Do you still have access to the OEM car computer? ie fuel economy, compass & altitude etc
  18. My last two cars have been turbo charged, so I am a fan. However, it seems that a big detractor of both a supercharger and a turbo set-up is the initial cost. No-one here has actually even mentioned complying to ADR's etc, which would possibly at least double the figures again. One thing I briefly looked at before buying my V35, was NO2. I was checking out if a low range power up was a practicality. It was, HOWEVER, I read somewhere that if you are caught with the NO2 bottle connected while you are on the street, its a 10K fine. Didn't actually check the correctness of the statement, but it scared me. Now, the fact you are thinking turbo or supercharger, I would guess you are already looking at a defect 100% of the time if your car is inspected. At least with the NO2, you could disconnect the bottle when on the road. I have read that some people have a dummy bottle disconnected for prying eyes, and a hidden connected bottle as well. Its also suppose to be expensive if used hard and often. But, I was originally thinking of a very modest power increase (ie standard internals), and it would only be on when the foot is to the floor. Keeping it modest would make it very cheep when compared to turbo or supercharging. Also, when its off, you have a standard v35. Its an option, which I would also look into if I were seriously considering other power upgrades (above exhaust and intake tubing).
  19. I have just ordered the parts for my new carputer. The old PC I was going to canibalise didn't work out, so ended up needing to start from scratch. I ended up getting a 32GB Disk On Module (basically an SDD, never tried them so I'll see) for just under $100 delivered, from eBay. There were cheaper ones, but the sellers had less history. I also think I could of goine for something as small as 4GB (read cheaper again), but would of hated to have to go back for a second purchase.
  20. I think I would be looking at going for something integrated with the Carputer such as the Blazt cable and software. But that is after I get the audio system setup (ie a media centre style PC).
  21. When I first started looking at the v354, accepting it was non-turbo and therefore difficult to get extra power, I started to look into small Nitro kits. But then I read somewhere when checking their legality, that if they were connected on the street, you would be looking at 10k fine. Didn't check if that was the max fine, or the default fine.
  22. I saw talk of an Overlay for the standard screen. Is this still an option? is it USB? if so, does it have a driver for windows to act like a mouse? I have searched for USB overlays, they are really cheap ($55) but they are not quite the right size. Still looking. Obviously I am planning on a Carputer. For Navigation, I previously use TomTom on my windows phone. I also have found freeware that basically lets me control and view the phone's screen on a computer, via the USB into my phone; sorta like remote desktop / VNC. Also, by plugging in my phone over USB, I can also use my phone as a wireless internet interface, so my Carputer will have internet also (ie google maps with traffic) I have also found that JayCar sell the 12v power box for a std pc. So I plan to try an old 1Ghz P4 I have lying around. My problems I have at this time are: 1. How I will handle the shutdown / power-down of the PC. Also the strange power conditions during engine startup. 2. A single USB2 cable is 5m max, USB1 is 3m (my old PC is USB1) It will need to reach the screen for the Overlay, and I also want another one to pop out just behind the screen to plug in my phone. 3. Will start with the Std old HDD in the PC, but look for an SDD, do not expect the HDD to last too long, especially with my low profile tyres. 4. The Overlay, its install, the usb cable length. Will use a trackball system if I can't sort this out at first. 5. The VGA to NTSC conversion. Resolution? running XP at 640x480 with the current screen as output. 6. Hope to use the ODBII cable into the PC later, but a little concerned as to cable length as PC will be in Boot. Also sceptical regarding the display on the tiny low-res OEM screen. Thats where I am at now. Also sent an email to Chris (cant do PM's yet) regarding the AUX cable / adapter into the TV in the boot; which is where I plan to put the PC. Any comments or further problems I may encounter please feel free to put up.
  23. Thanks Leon, I have no real plan for TV, for now. I really just want audio. And maybe an OBDII reader after that.
  24. Is it just me, or is that a big step up (15 to 20rwkw)?I am guessing you did each upgrade in steps, although you didnt dyno it, any comments on what upgrade(s) gave the best step in performance (bang fa buck)? I guess I am looking at what I should consider in which order.
  25. Hi every one Just picked up my v35 coupe on Monday. Its in the rare metalic silver... with 33K on the clock. The lazy auto, with 19" rims, premium, with black leather interior. My previous car was a Toyota Soarer twin turbo, and before that a different Turbo, so its a little strange for me to drive NA, but good . This car feels more like a go-cart to me, than the Soarer, and Still feels like I am driving "someone elses car" I had the Soarer for 6+ years. My plans are for window tinting and a Carputer; my CD stacker is jammed, radio has not been convereted, and all my tapes are in storage and I think I am past all my 80's music... I am still learning where / what all the butons do. The one thing that I have not worked out yet, is how to adjust the dim on the dash when the lights are set to "Auto". As soon as the lights turn on (driving under a bridge / tunnel), the dash goes REALLY dark. Where is the adjustment? I have downloaded the G35 owners manual and the G35 service manual, but where they say the dimmer swithch is, (but LHD) is nada for me.
