Sebastien Buemi will once again act as Red Bull's test and reserve driver during the 2013 season. http://www.planetf1....s-Red-Bull-role Robert Kubica is not yet physically ready to test a Formula 1 car, according to Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, whose company is giving Kubica a DTM run this week. Kubica has already returned to competitive action in rallying and is currently expected to mount a European Rally Championship title bid this year with Ford or Citroen machinery. But he also remains interested in circuit racing and will test a Mercedes DTM car at Valencia on Friday, as revealed by AUTOSPORT last week. Asked if this could be a precursor to an outing in a Mercedes F1 car, Wolff said the Pole's rehabilitation from his devastating rally injuries needed more time. "If we see that he is doing well in a proper racing car with downforce, I think there are still some physical constraints to driving a monocoque chassis, with his elbow and with his arm," Wolff insisted. "I think we would all love to see Robert doing well in a Formula 1 car in the future, but it is definitely too early at this stage." Wolff emphasised that the DTM test was an exploratory outing. "We all obviously like Robert. He's very special. I think what we want to do at Mercedes-Benz is give him a chance of doing a proper test in a proper racing car, seeing how he goes and how he feels," he said. "He's not 100 per cent fit yet. It's the first time he's in a car with downforce and I think we have to take it from there." http://www.autosport...t.php/id/105234

Marussia hinted that 'commercial' factors had forced a change a plans after the announcement that Timo Glock is leaving the team. A statement issued by the Banbury-based outfit on Monday morning suggested that the tough economic conditions that Formula 1 teams were experiencing at the moment meant it could no longer afford the luxury of paying an experienced driver. Team principal John Booth said: "Timo has made a very significant contribution to our team over the past three seasons, helping us to develop our package to the point where, for a large proportion of the 2012 season, we were holding 10th place in the constructors' championship. "Timo is a fantastic driver and he has been a very popular member of the team. "Our team was founded on the principle of benefiting from proven experience whilst also providing opportunities for young emerging talent to progress to the pinnacle of motorsport. Thus far, this philosophy has also been reflected in our commercial model. "The ongoing challenges facing the industry mean that we have had to take steps to secure our long-term future. Tough economic conditions prevail and the commercial landscape is difficult for everyone, Formula 1 teams included. "We would like to thank Timo for working with us to reach this decision, especially as he had a valid contract, and also for the contribution he has made to our team. "We wish him all the best for his future and I would like to congratulate the next team acquiring the services of such a competitive, professional and experienced racer. "We will provide an update regarding the completion of our driver line-up in due course." Speaking about the situation, Glock said: "I have had three excellent years with the Marussia F1 team, during which I had the chance to actively participate in building and developing the team in its endeavours to succeed within the Formula 1 world championship. "I would like to wish the team good luck in navigating this next period and thank everyone for the great times we shared and the support I have received. "Although it is not the path I expected to be taking, I am in fact very excited about what the future holds in terms of my own career and I hope to comment on that very soon." http://www.autosport...t.php/id/105210

Mark Webber and Kimi Raikkonen will be working with new race engineers this season after swapping personnel. Meanwhile, Raikkonen's 2012 engineer Simon Rennie will be heading in the opposite direction to Red Bull where he'll team up with Webber. Ferrari pushing to get Jules Bianchi a race seat in F1 in 2013 Ferrari is still pushing to help secure its young driver Jules Bianchi a race seat in Formula 1 this year, as Force India continues to stall on its decision. Bianchi is believed to be going up against Adrian Sutil for the second seat at Force India alongside Paul di Resta, but the team remains undecided on its plans. The Frenchman was Force India's third driver last year and a possible promotion to a race seat has been linked with the possibility of the Silverstone-based outfit switching to Ferrari engines from 2014. Although Force India has remained silent on its plans, Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali said at his team's Wrooom media event at Madonna di Campiglio on Wednesday that his outfit was still working on landing Bianchi a race seat. "Jules is part of our Driver Academy, and we are trying to find a solution for him," explained Domenicali. "Last year he was the third driver of Force India, and we are trying to find a solution so he can grow and show his worth. But I have no further information." Force India is scheduled to launch its new car on February 1, and di Resta has already had his seat fitting. The team's customer engine contract with Mercedes-Benz comes to an end this year, and it is considering its options for the move to new 1.6-litre V6 turbo power-units for 2014. http://www.autosport...t.php/id/105141 it must be good to know ferrari has your back.

Barely a week after he strongly hinted that the Nurburgring would host the German GP, Bernie Ecclestone has revealed that it is not yet a done deal. "We have got a German Grand Prix but we don't know where it is going to be," he is quoted as saying by ESPNF1. "We have got the race pencilled in. It's on the calendar. We can decide it once the season has started." When asked if the race will take place at the Nurburgring, Ecclestone replied: "No. The trouble is that the people that used to be there have gone. They haven't got enough money. So we will see." Ecclestone also dismissed reports he confirmed the Nurburgring, who is alternating with Hockenheim, during an interview last week. "I said to Reuters that I was talking to them about trying to do something," he said. "I don't know what is going to happen with Nurburgring. That's what we are trying to sort out." http://www.planetf1....ver-Nurburgring Caterham are due to confirm their second driver for the 2013 Formula One season any day now, according to team boss Cyril Abiteboul. "There are different options. One is someone who he (Pic) can learn from," Abiteboul toldEastern Daily Press. "Another, more radical, is to accept the fact 2013 is a transition year we use to continue building the team before a period of greater stability in 2014, when a lot of other things in the package will change. "Both types are out there, and we are close to making a decision." http://www.planetf1....oser-to-line-up

Vitaly Petrov's chances of securing another season with Caterham are fading as his manager revealed talks have stalled. "At the moment there are a lot of unanswered questions," his manager Oksana Kosachenko told R-Sport. "There are too many nuances that need to be sorted out. "We're at the waiting stage, which is linked to the team's restructuring. We completely depend on them and can't speed anything up." As for rumours that Petrov has found new backing giving him the edge in the race for the second seat, Kosachenko says this is not true. "So far, we haven't managed to find new sponsors. "Where do journalists get this information from? I'm a journalist myself and I know very well how this can just pop into someone's head." http://www.planetf1....Petrov-waiting-

Heikki Kovalainen has only himself and his management to blame for not continuing with Caterham, according to Mike Gascoyne. After three seasons with the backmarker outfit, Kovalainen, who previously raced for McLaren and Renault, has been left without a seat for this year's Championship. The Finn recently admitted his "surprise" at failing to land a drive, saying he thought "after last season and the last couple of years I thought I'd be in a better position on the market." And although Caterham still have one place open for this season and could theoretically retain Kovalainen, Gascoyne has ruled the 31-year-old out of the running. "It is actually a great shame," the Caterham Group technical officer told crash.net. "Heikki is a very talented driver, but last year his management did not handle him very well and he has not done himself any favours. "It is a tough environment out there for everyone. He has had three years with Caterham, was paid well, and he should have shown more respect about that." As for the one driver Caterham have signed for this season, Charles Pic, Gascoyne admits finances did play a role. "Charles is a young guy," he said. "He has some financial backing and he has done a decent job against a more experienced team-mate, Timo Glock. "Let's see now if he rises to the occasion." http://www.planetf1.com/driver/18227/8394728/-Lack-of-respect-cost-Heikki-
