  1. Duly noted, and believe me I really wouldn't bother with these fans if it wasn't for the fact that the bonnet can't be closed all the way now. I fitted a larger intercooler on this car and the pipe goes where the fan is, so to speak. Unfortunately the bonnet has a scoop that pokes down into the engine bay exactly there as well, so the original fan would have to be trimmed down til not very much at all hehe, and the shroud would have to go too. But this electric fan shroud kit fits right onto the radiator and allows enough space for the bonnet to be closed, so at the end of the day I just thought that'd be the best option. This seems like a very sensible point, I shall disregard the 85° sensor and pick one of the higher temp ones.
  2. I am to replace the stock fan on a RB25 engine, just have a few questions regarding the thermostat. Here's what I've been thinking so far; I'm guessing the water pump draws coolant from the bottom of the radiator right? So I figured I'd place the thermostat right at the outlet there, since there's also a good plughole right there (it's an aftermarket radiator) and that way it would measure the temperature on the fluid that's just about to enter the engine - good idea, no? Also, what temperature thermostat should I use? Been looking at one for 85° now, but there's 92° or 95° ones around too. Any thoughts around this would be most appreciated!
  3. To each their own! But yeah, it's a bit different when stuff can sit for as long as it takes. Sort of "un-forced", one goes there when in the mood for it etc. Be it at the cost of forgetting and relearning. I'm refurbishing some alloys for my own car, 2/4 done, it has taken 3 years so far.
  4. ...for a second you had me going "oh crap...", but then I remembered that the compressor housing could only face one possible way (and I did move the compressor housing to that position!) and that way just wasn't compatible with straight linkage. But no you're absolutely right, I don't wanna do this at all, I'd rather chill with a cup of tea and a book hehe.
  5. Thanks, the R33 FSM was a bit better than the R34 one.
  6. On another note, that's a very tidy engine bay. Did you remove the wiper fluid tank to fit the pipe between intercooler and intake?
  7. ...and now the head gasket is blown! lol Sorry for jolting this old thread, just felt it sort of added to the story this way. Obviously I've been summoned for this repair, since it's very labor intensive and would cost a lot in any shop, and I have til friday to do it. Was just wondering if anyone could give me directions to a good "replace RB25 head gasket" thread/site? A few questions that instantly comes to mind is torque settings, order in which to tighten the head, can I leave the intake and exhaust manifolds on, other good to know things.
  8. Very elegant solution, thankee! Yep, just topping up Galois. A flush might be a good idea tho, but no time for any extras right now hehe.
  9. Just another quick question... I'm going to refill the coolant now - is there anything I need to do to get the air out of the system or does it take care of that on its own?
  10. I just fitted longer studs the other day... umm, I think they were 10mm width x 1.25 mm thread, I had mine stick out 50mm (total length around 65mm, rather a bit longer anyway, then you can always trim them off if necessary) for using a 20mm spacer. If you like I'll go measure them exactly and precisely for you. I got mine from a local hardware store/machining shop, could probably be found at car parts dealers, garages, heavy machinery workshops and whatnot. Edit: oh, and for just fitting the regular turbo I think about 30-35mm pegs does it... so maybe a total lenght of 50 mm
  11. Ahh, lol. Yer I better get at least one case!
  12. Thanks I'll prolly need it hehe, wow... it took a lot of heat to lose the manifold studs. Sorry for being slow, what sorta cases? Ic ic, that sort of makes sense, I guess they'd let out more fuel. We'll probably take the car on a trailer to the dyno place for good measure. I'm in Scandinavia actually, sorry for barging in on a aussie forum like this. There's a native Skyline forum around, but since it's a relatively rare car here, it's a small community... so it might be aeons before anyone replies.
  13. Ah yea, worry not! Because if I manage to fit that turbo there's a Link G4 unit, a new intercooler, 530cc injectors, walbro fuel pump and a new clutch in a box right next to the car... and I'm supposed to have it all done and fitted til april 17th... which is when she's got a time for mapping... *sigh* Just curious; if one were to only fit that turbo and run the car on all the original settings... what would happen? Would it boost too hard? Run lean? Is that your GT-T in the picture? It looks nice, hers is black. GT-R spoiler and alloys, no?
  14. Thx for the really quick replies! It's called IRX450... at least the exhaust-flange seems to be right... but the compressor housing is too big and touches the exhaust manifold, but I think I can solve that with a couple of extra flanges in between and some longer bolts. Also I need to turn the compressor housing in an angle that doesn't allow the wastegate-vaccuum-thing to align with the wastegate-arm-thing, so I need to make modified linkage between them... ah well, that's for later tho. Ok, then I shall remove the water piping and plug it... just to really make sure/double check... it's not going to block any other essential circulation right? (away for some hours now)
  15. Hi there! Unfortunately I am to replace the turbo on my sisters R34 GTT (RB25) . The new turbo doesn't have any water cooling so I was just wondering... what should I do with the water-piping? Should I keep them connected, thus letting the water circulate through them... or can I remove the pipes and plug the holes? Any ideas would be most appreciated! I probably have a few more questions later on too as I move along, that new turbo of hers doesn't seem to fit in naturally anywhere lol.
