And the winner of the gold medal for the most uses of the word "lock" is........

Ok Gotcha. Couldn't see you location when looking at the forum on my phone. It was mighty quiet up that way, but I did have some fun blowing away some Falcodores when overtaking, on the way up and back.

Yeah, a leopard 2 would totally dominate should war break out tomorrow, just another reason not to own the RB25!!!
-
Considering we have never met before and all I know about you is that your name may/may not be Paul, its pretty normal that you would have missed me.

Yes, Yes it is. Thank you very much for completely destroying my otherwise hilarious comment by pointing that out.

Enabling Video Whilst In Motion V36?
Alkatraz replied to Alkatraz's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Nice! Will give you a call tomorrow re. this. -
Has anyone hacked their nav system to enable video whilst in motion? I would love to be able to use the AUX connections without having the Japanese warning come up and have seen this done on the G37.

So I hear that the Bugatti Veyron produces 1000hp from an 8 litre V16 and does over 400kph. So what is the point of having an RB25 if you are just going to get blown away by Bernie Ecclestone on his way to sleep with his super model girlfriend???

Drove up to Geraldton in WA over the weekend, stopped at the Pinnicles (Google search it if you want to know) on the way back and this is the first time that I have taken any shots of the car.

Need Grounding Kit Installation Manual
Alkatraz replied to Deep Dish V35's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I have to disagree, I put one on my V36 a while ago and it definitely sped up the speed of the down changes through the paddles. If it makes any difference to power (which I doubt), it would never be enough to be noticeable and it didn't seem to make any difference to the up changes. One other thing that I have noticed is that it doesn't seem to hunt for gears as much when driving in traffic, in full automatic, previously the box seemed to take a little while to decide which gear it wanted and would sometimes stay in a lower gear for too long. This simply makes it feel a little less jerky when putting around at low speed. If you believe that they do absolutely zero, then that's fine, but I have noticed a definite difference. Now whether it was worth the $80 or whatever it was, is another question. -
Probably the only fault that I have found so far with my 370, is the dodgy 'leather', it really is poor quality material. Looks great and all, but I can already see that within 2-3 years it start falling apart and will look pretty bad.

stuff idiots say about skylines

Lol. What he says about ipads is true though, the browser crashes whenever you try type something in the reply box -
Lol, I found that advert on carsales......"Price Reduced from 59,999," HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHA That seller looks to be about as dodgy as they come. "I am committed to providing 100% honesty in all my transactions with, not only you but all my buyers. I would not sell a vehicle that I would not personally buy, therefore any vehicles I sell must be free of damage or problems." Anyone who feels that they need to put that at they bottom of their ad is obviously has a guilty conscience. Aftermarket exhaust, Infiniti badging lol its just gets better and better. This is a base 370GT model and now has G37S badges on the back.....I would say that you should not go anywhere near this thing but that would be an understatement, I am uncomfortable that I am only 2500km away from it in WA. "* You never have any mechanical problems as it is only 1 year old!!" It just goes on and on.......if I didnt know that someone could potentially be ripped off, it would be funny. He has it marked as a private sale when obviously he is doing it as a business......hopefully the ATO catches up with him and rams 40,000 pages of paperwork up his ass. One picture of the inside and none of the engine? hmmmmm........... I feel really bad for all of the decent importers ie. the ones who frequent this site. It must piss them off 10 times as badly as it does the rest of us to see this stuff going on. Seriously though, I would be very very careful if you want to buy one of these in Australia. There are some great ones out there that were legitimate personal imports, but there are also many many of these crappy ones. It is still kinda hard to judge what they are worth exactly in Australia, simply because there are not many on the roads and most that are for sale are from dodgy ass importers. It seems that legitimate 2008 SP's (exactly like I have) still go for around the mid to high $40's. Any 09 or 10 should be well over $50. People are trying to sell their S's, P's for around $40-$45 so base models should be under $40. SP's will always be at least a few G's more, black even more and sunroof more as well. So basically if you want to get a decent one in Australia, you are looking at at least $40-$50...... I imported mine through one of the import brokers on here, got an 08 SP Auction grade 5A, 24,000km for just under $40 on the road (was a very good deal, the broker and I were both suprised when it sold, the exchange rate was better and it was only about 2 months after f*kashima)......moral of this story........IMPORT ONE YOURSELF!

V36 5 Speed Vs 7 Speed Auto
Alkatraz replied to projectx's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Two options then, pay less and get an 08 with the 5MT like mine, or look for a manual. Keep in mind though that the G37 is a very popular car in the US, I saw dozens of them whilst I was there for two weeks in October. It may only be a small percentage of people who are actually complaining. -
A Few Questions
Alkatraz replied to Ezy03's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
If you are importing an older car then I guess it could be worth having someone do a full inspection on it for you, or go and do it yourself. If it is a newer car, only a few years old with low kms, then the auction sheet would be fine. Just go through one of the reputable dealers on here who post constantly and you know that they will back you up if the car turns out to be a lemon. Noone wants negative feedback about their business floating around on here. If you are really that paranoid, then buy a ticket to Japan and go and have a look yourself. Having some random Japanese guy, that I have never met, check over the car in that sort of detail would not really put my mind at ease. You would still have no comeback if his report turned out wrong, good luck starting a cross border lawsuit. As for the cost calculator, google 'Prestige Motorsport'. He has a spreadsheet that you can use to give a pretty good estimate. -
Fixing My Compliance Issues
Alkatraz replied to nickor33's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Iron Chef, is it due to the engine swap that he has no chance? I would find it hard to believe that any car that has the compliance plates stolen, simply becomes a write off. Would he be able to get the car checked by an engineer, signed off and then given new vin/chassis numbers etc? How do people build up hot rods from a mixture of parts and get them registered? Australian laws are messed up even more than I thought if there really is no way to get this car back on the road, even if it costs an arm and a leg. -
So many views, noone interested. Deposit has been taken now anyway.

http://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/2007 I bought two of these a while ago and will only be using one now (hopefully in a week or so). It expires mid March 2012 so if anyone wants it, let me know. Al

If I am wrong and they have changed the laws over the past 5 years then I appologise, i looked at some ads and a couple did say that HR licence was needed to apply, most didn't but some did, so its possible. The reason that you (previously?) didn't require an HR licence was that you were driving on private roads that are not governed by state road rules. This is the same reason that a mining company could sack you for doing 51kph on a 50kph haul road if they wanted, their road, their rules. As for a list of sites that I have driven haul trucks at without an HR licence (admittably 5+ years ago now).... Kanowna Belle, Cawse nickel, Granny Smith, Leinster Nickel (when still owned by WMC), Ralaigh. If you start at a site as a nipper, and after a while they ask you to jump in a truck, will they make you go a sit your HR licence first? Driving a haul truck on a minesite, especially u-g, has very little in common with driving a truck on the roads, I dont remember seeing a road train that was 5m wide before, so knowing how to drive one doesnt help so much. Road trains are MUCH harder to drive than haul trucks anyway and if you can find me a site where they still use manual haul trucks, I'd like to see that as well. Once again, i appologise if it is now a legal requirement to hold an HR licence before driving a haul truck, but from my experience, it was never needed? Quick question, does every diesel fitter and auto sparky now require an HR licence before test driving the equipment after a repair or maintenance?
-
One thing that I should have added. If you are not scared of hard work, then look for a job as a drillers offsider. Harder work than driving a truck but if you do well and can end up drilling within a couple of years, say hello to the BIG $$$.
-
Dont listen to anyone that says you need to do a training course or have your HR licence to get a job driving a truck in the mines. Both of them may help you get the job as they will be extra stuff to add to your resume but they are not prerequisites. Every single mine will make you do weeks of training and you will be assessed and must pass a test before you can drive on your own. Dont stress though, if you can drive a car well then you can drive a 200tonne truck, you just have one or two extra blind spots ;-) Unfortunately, with zero experience, you will be joining the back of a very long queue. Most sites only hire a few trainee's per year so you may be waiting a while. Get yourself signed up with Mining People, Xtraman (Extraman?), Workpac, Hays, Skilled etc. They will find you something eventually, there may be others now so do some searching. Whatever you do dont pay anyone any money, there are plenty of scammers out there who will sell you freely available info. As someone mentioned, TA work can be a good option to get you some minesite experience. It will also get you a site induction or two, which can also go on your resume. Ten years ago most places wanted you to do a Marcsta course, which was basically EXACTLY the same as EVERY site induction that you will ever do, check if this is still the case, cost $100 or so back then. Basically, with no experience, it will just take a while to get anything.

Lol at the GPS comments. Have a look at the sh%t that EVERY taxi has plastered to the windscreen, obscuring their vision.
