  1. Agreed with the great comments by Max, except for the one above. My 08SP cost me just over $40k on the road around 16 months ago. I did get lucky and got a great deal but now that the 3year Shakan on many 09 models is due, if you look hard enough i think you could get something for well under $50k. Add a few grand ontop if you want a black one with a sunroof, but if u are patient you'll get something.
  2. oh sorry, gotcha It's only odd when said person actually has nothing to do with the company mentioned. The above reads like a bad attempt to advertise their own company. I feel bad for anyone who actually gets sucked in by these guys. If anyone is considering it anyway, send me a quick PM and I will tell you a little story about an "original" series 8, Spirit R, RX7 that they had on their site about a few years back. Lets just say that when someone has 50 different excuses as to why they can't send me the auction sheet, a photo of the engine number and VIN number, insists that I fly across the country so that we can 'discuss' the car, and uses the words 'trust me' 10 times in 3 sentences, alarm bells go off in my head.
  3. Google 'Edward Lees dodgy' then decide how 'odd' my comment was.
  4. Chris will be able to give you the full rundown, but from my basic experience having pulled the dash on my car apart on multiple occasions, I would say, just forget about it. This car is wired up so that EVERYTHING effects EVERYTHING else. You would need to replace the entire sat nav, air con controls, steering wheel controls etc etc etc. For example, I learnt that if you disconnect only the 4 wire touchscreen ribbon (wire that connects from the touch screen overlay to the touch screen circuit board), the steering wheel controls and air con simply stop working. I have no idea why and it makes no since to me, but this is what happens. Also, because of the fact that you can adjust many of the functions through this unit, ie. the sensitivity of the auto headlights, you may find that simply swapping units makes many of these features unusable or unstable. Seriously though, even if it was possible, would you really think that it was worth $10,000??? Seems kinda crazy to me.
  5. When was the last time an Infiniti thrashed the Falcodores around Mount Panorama.
  6. ^^^^^ I think that they probably just wanted to go a different direction and build something that could complete with the Euro's. Probably a different group of designers, different financial goals at the time etc etc. I don't think that the V series are really a spiritual successor to the R series but Nissan made their choice and have to stick with it I guess. Bit if a shame really because the R35 IS the spiritual successor but doesn't wear the Skyline badge. As for why they call it Skyline in Japan and Infiniti everywhere else, I can only imagine that the Japanese are happy to drive a luxury coupe with Nissan badges and don't get hung up on the brand name. The rest of the world may look at a luxury coupe with a Nissan badge and think "that's just a spec'd up Maxima!'. It worked for Toyota so I guess that Nissan just ran with their idea....... Just remember that 99% of the worlds car buyers don't know a thing about cars and simply buy based on brand, advertising and price.
  7. Lol. In the US Infiniti G37 owners rebadge their cars as Nissan's. I dont really get why anyone would want to change the badges on their cars but each to their own i guess.
  8. ^^^^^ "go go with them" .........lol, stupid phone.
  9. I cannot confirm whether HBF still cover imports but when I signed up with my RX7 and when asking for a quote for my V36, I had to go into a branch for them to do it. As imports are a tiny % of their business, they needed to use a special code in their system to enable it to produce a quote. None of the call centre employees ever know this code and some staff in the branch didn't seem to know it but the more senior ones do. Imports have also never shown up in their online quote system but they definitely did cover them at one stage. This may have changed in the 12 months since i got a quote from them but , if you havn't already, it might be worth going into a branch to double check this. With my V they gave the lowest $$$ quote out of everyone, the only reason that I didnt go go with them was that Shannans dont have the 20% per year depreciation rule and they agreed to match the HBF quote plus add hire car and free window replacement at no extra cost. I think that somehow I ran into the best Shannans rep in the country to pull that one off! BTW, 32yo, no history (except for other assholes crashing into me), full no claim bonus, mid $40k agreed value = $1400/year. $300 excess i think.
  10. The silver end almost looks like it would go in the cig lighter/power source plug. Also could be alarm related. Did any older nissans come with one of these weird alarm/immobilisers that required a metal ended key type thing to be touched to a spot near the ignition? Or were those only aftermarket alarms/immobilizers?
  11. I did have to wait about 2 weeks for my car to get on a boat but I was told which boat it would be on and when it was leaving just a few days after the auction. '2 weeks waiting for the shipping schedule' seems a little strange.
  12. Because it is illegal........end of story.
  13. This is from the RAWS website.... "Vehicle Condition For a vehicle is to be complied by a RAW, it must be fitted with original components (air intake, engine, exhaust, suspension, steering wheel amongst others). If the vehicle is non-standard, this will increase the cost of compliance as the RAW will need to return the vehicle to its standard production format." I would be explaining to the compliance workshop and/or dealer that they will either have to foot the bill to correctly comply the car or give you your, money back.
  14. I wont lie and say that I wasn't directing the question towards you Chris, I just didn't want to be too direct So can anyone direct me towards what to pull apart and which fuel pump wire would be appropriate to make some minor modifications too (read: cut in half)? The unit comes with a relay and everything is all set up to simply splice into the wire, I just need to know which one and how to get to the bugger. On another note. With the amount of times people ask V35 and V36 questions on here and are simply forwarded onto you Chris, I hope that you are taking advantage of this fact, $$$$$ wise!
  15. So I went and ordered one of these..... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Realtime-Car-Tracker-Vehicle-GPS-GSM-GPRS-Tracking-Device-System-Spy-Alarm-Tool-/270867534485?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f10f69295#ht_6131wt_946 without really doing enough research into how to wire it into the V36 ignition and/or fuel pump. Installing the unit itself along with the antenna's etc will be a piece of piss, but the ignition and fuel cut are over my head. Knowing how complicated the electronics on these cars are, I am now a little worried. Once I discovered that disconnecting the touch screen 4 wire ribbon cable from the main board, actually renders the entire A/C controls and steering wheel controls inoperable, I knew that I was in for a tough time with this car. I have been looking through the 10000 page G37 service manual and have found a few wiring schematics and such but am not the most electronically gifted individual out there, so these don't help a hell of a lot. Can anyone point me in the direction of where to start or at least give me an idea of whether this will even be worth attempting? If someone has a photo/image of which wire/s I should splice into for the ignition and/or fuel pump it would assist greatly. I will be pulling the dash apart for the 10th time this weekend to finish off (hopefully) what may be a credible alternative for those wishing to get Australian Navi etc. on the OEM touch screen, and would like to have a go at installing this tracker device at the same time. Thanks Al
  16. I don't understand why you would have to pay the excess on the claim when you are able to identify the party that caused the damage??? The insurance company should be the ones who try to get the excess out of this waste of space family. What was the insurance companies reasoning behind this?
  17. Gotta love the world that we live in when that is the response that you get from ' the law '. Yet if you get caught doing a few kph over the limit, they will chase you to the ends of the earth to make sure that you pay up for your heinous crime. Even with the dad in jail, I bet that the family still have $1000 worth of assets that could be handed over. I would be getting a copy of the police report and then going into one of the offices of my insurance company or arranging a meeting with a rep and trying to make them cover it all. You can identify the other party so I'm not sure how they can argue their way out of it. Has anyone ever read on their policy that the 'other party' or 'persons responsible' must be over 18?
  18. Quotes were from Fabcar and one other place.....can't remember the name. Was 12 months ago though so hopefully it has dropped by now. Mechanically there is not a hell of a lot of difference between the sedan and the coupe. Sedan looks a little plain though in my opinion.Significantly cheaper though.
  19. Don't hold your breath. They will still cost the same out of Japan so I wouldn't be expecting the price to go up. That's not to say that it wouldn't be awesome if they did go up in value but I won't be betting on it. It might make them a little easier to sell though, once people start seeing ad's on TV and learn more about them.
  20. 12 months ago I was quoted $6000 for compliance. Ended up being cheaper to have the car come in through Brisbane, have compliance done there and then shipped from Brissie to Perth. The price might have changed now but if not, keep that option in mind.
  21. Being a 350GT sedan would also be a big factor in the low price. The sedans just don't hold their value as well as the coupé's. 08 coupé's seem to go for the same price as 2010 sedans (give or take). The good thing being that you probably wouldn't expect them to be nose diving in price any time soon. Most of the price drop would have already occurred. Either way, $23,000 for the quality of that car is a good deal. You could go out and buy one of the 150+ 2007 Commodores on carsales, for the same money, but it would have double or triple the km on it and you would stand out like hay in a hay stack!
  22. Possibly you are the same guy who started the same thread on myg37.com. I will post the same thing here that I did there. If you can't find someone to trade then give this guy a call/email in Japan "rhdjapan.com" He might be able to source a second hand one for you. If the new ones are $2000, second hand ones may still be expensive though.
  23. I would be guessing that the keys for most manufacturers would simply come out of China and then be programmed by the dealers. Any chance of finding a blank for that particular model, having it sent to you and then going to the dealer to program it? The blank would probably cost $2 but based on the amount of time you would spend f'ing around doing this, it might be easier paying the $400. Have a look at your home and contents policy (provided you have one), there might be a clause in there that covers something like this. Then just weigh up the $400 vs. your excess and possible premium increase on renewal. Some car insurance's will also cover this, the excess on the car insurance is generally higher though but may be worth a phone call to find out.
  24. I had mine complied in Brisbane about 12 months ago. It was $3500 for compliance at the time.
