  1. I do not have any PRP products and absolutely not a fanboi of PRP or any product motive pushes, and also personally know 3 people with horror stories of dealing with Herman,  however

I wouldn’t judge PRP on constantly innovating the product, HKS/JUN etc have not done anything in years as the demand is waning in japan for these items. Meanwhile Australia is leading the charge and that shows with the number of great products on offer at the moment developed and made locally.

Why would you buy an old tech HKS turbo? When you can get a precision of garret which performs far better  for the same if not less $.

Let's just say - I have seen a companies block brace (not naming names here) that required redrilling, modifying, planeing etc to actually work. Sorry, but that's just not on ay, any block brace should be damn near spot on.

Also, crank triggers, none of them are perfect, but do they beat the OEM CAS, absolutely!! The cam part of the Kulig is not the best hence why my trigger setup is modified to optimise a small potential 'weak link'. Would I use P R products for my cars, no, have i been recommended them, no. That's enough for me, you don't see big hitters like HKS/JUN/Supertech/Kelford/CP Pistons/ Manly Rods etc etc adding constant revisions to their products. I'm not a guinea pig.

  2. Well I figure its time for an update, bit been happening in the last few years.

First of all, wrap was removed to display the 50 shades in all its glory

Stripped back and painted by PanelHaus in Canningvale, really happy with the job and he was more than happy to tidy up a few bits and pieces. However it took a while, I should have never told him I was living overseas at the time.

after all that it ended up looking like this

Shortly after that I went my separate ways with the previous performance workshop who worked on the car, I had a few key issues which had been haunting the car since its completion which they were unable to resolve, so I figured it’s time for a new set of eyes.

There has been an abundance of work to get the car back up to spec of where I want it performance wise, and it has been a hell of a journey which I probably have forgotten most of, but the key items:
    • 4wd now works
    • Rebuilt the 6466 turbo
    • An extensive list of maintenance and safety items.
    • Refitting of seat to have me actually sitting in the centre and not skewed
    • Extended the steering wheel towards myself a touch
    • Rebuilt the holinger – basically I smoked 5th gear it was previously set on a timer to reapply power as opposed to closed loop shift cut.
    • Sika stepped up and Sponsored my head build

Went from 579kw to 614kw by cutting the restriction out of the HKS hi power silent – at this point Rob Turner ran a 9.6 @ 146mph in it to verify the power and 4wd operation – see graph below it is pretty impressive how the trimmy boi changed the power so significantly
    dyno.thumb.jpg.4467f2d900843211234dc626e4471cd9.jpg
After that test went all out on a 4” turbo back exhaust done by Dom @ Prestige exhaust. He was fantastic to deal wit to replace the 3” pea shooter.

power increase was not as great however it was on an absolute stinker of a day in feb, Rob complained his icecream melted while he was tuning it. Would it have gone more on a nicer day, unsure but we will wait for the next round of power mods before bothering to dyno it again.

The cool thing on that day is 1320 video popped past in preparation of racewars coverage and I got a slightly larger E Peen
Racewars as unfortunate as it was to miss the Sunday of racing was a great success, did my last standing K KPH in the 800s and came 2nd in ET to Eddie who has a hell of a car. We did have a few more PSI to punch in for the 1k run but that’s life.

    Onto the good stuff

As I am back in Perth a bit more these days, I have been using the car as intended.

Got two sessions in at Barbs on AD08’s getting my best time down to a 65.1 LT.

So stepped it up and bought some R Comps Z221’s and have got the best time down to 62.4, all throught racechrono with a gps expander on it.

Below compares my time (light blue) against one of Simons 59’s. I am 0.5 off in sector 2 and 3 and a touch more in sector 1, mainly looks like I am a bit soft through the essess (explanation below)
    DB-vs-SR.thumb.jpg.571883c909978656b2efd4270fde8167.jpg

Also got some laps in at RAC, it was reverse circuit with a chicane.

And some Sunday morning early morning hills run’s with the lads

    gtMGFVWhrr.jpg.5e70b12503f242b2069f7762d1c1e4ef.jpg

So the 62’s at barbs was on gate pressure around 650whp, the brakes lasted ¾ of one good quick lap before the peddle being a bit shit and the weight transition through the essess felt the car was launching towards the outer wall. It was at that point in time i recalled we had make do coil overs in the car (basic teins with pretty mediocre spring rates) and the pads were not as good as they could be. With the AP’s getting on in life the following was ordered
    • Alcon 6 pot front and 4 pot rears, 365mm discs
    • MCA Reds

Now down to 60.7 Long Track at Barbs and 57.6 at RAC Reverse circuit. Overlay comparing my time to Simons 59 around barbs

shame to pull the engine this month, but its a good baseline, engine is being pulled for the following:

    > has a stock diff, so going with a quaife

    > Head keeps popping shims, so going a shimless setup with a cnc port by RAMS

    > Re Ring and Rebearing while everything is out

    > Nismo plenum / HKS Intercooler into the bin and a plasmaman Intake Manifold and Intercooler setup installed.

    Cheers!

  3. I have not used a Haltech,

    However have a Link G4+

I find the functionality and interface easy for myself to setup different things i.e. launch control adjust rev limits and boost by gear.

Logging is comprehensive and easy to use / download / analyse.

Ultimately depends who is tuning your car and what they want to use.

The S14 was always making over 400rwkw on the Advan dyno when I worked there. Took it to Unigroup and it struggled to crack 300rwkw.... Clearly if dyno's don't lie then it must be the operator. Its a little hard in this instance to explain the vast differences in performance isn't it? I am referring to mine and Hattori's cars

Whats a GTR weigh? google is telling me 1460kgs.... so it has 60 kilos on the S14.... the S14 is a compete street car, doof doof and spare wheel all get left in place when I race it. its 3100 pounds on the weigh bridge at Sydney Dragway. Throw me in it and its closer to 3300 pounds.

So lets compare apples with apples.... mates old GTR went 11.0@130mph with a pair of low mounts on Bob Jane All Rounders lol It made 300rwkw.. Standard bottom end and stock box. One would expect 275rwkw to put on a tad more than 18mph.... the S14 went 20mph faster with 50rwkw difference.....

    comparing R32 GTR to R32 GTR  775whp / 146mph is about right.

Seems like the 6466 tap out around the 620-650kw. Im 620kw on 31psi on e85 on hub dyno

I am trying to get as much as possible out of the 6466, as it is a great multi use turbo.

I predominately prefer circuit/sprints (leave it at about 1.2 bar), however enter Racewars (1000m events) and the drags on occasion so the 2 bar kill all tune is handy for those.

770ish Hp pull was done on 28psi and E78 from the pump. The lovely dyno snapped a belt roughly 1000rpm before my redline hence the gorgeous graph. At that point after the worst imaginable experience with that shop, lasting over 30 months, I trailered the car elsewhere to be properly tuned, not just WOT, and swapped the 0.84 rear for a 1.32. Dyno Type is an old dynamite model, stock R32s read around 260whp without the boost pill in it.

Final "glory" pulls were done on the 6466 with 1.32ar, Ignite Red 90% ethanol (NOT 85% like the graph states), and 37psi peak. I dont have any relevant comparisons for this dyno unfortunately.

I wouldn't say that is complete freedom merica dyno

I did 620kw/830whp on 32psi with a 1.15 6466 on a 2.8 similar sort of mods. mine wouldn't take anymore boost to make a significant amount more power. I think the nismo intake needs the ditch and update the hks cooler to a new plasmaman unit.

Best indicator is the trap speed, update it when you make a pass!

  7. Hi,

Moving to brisbane very shortly and I was looking around for club level motorsport options.

Main interest are rally sprint, time attack nights / timed practice nights and drag racing?

I have had a poke around on facebook and the internet and looks like a few options but trying to obtain a bit of a list to tick off.

Also looking for a workshop to look after my car, usual 9sec GTR kinda package which does primarily circuitwork.

    Cheers!
