I do believe that is the bottom line. In WA you can get permits for mods, so when Mr Plod takes a closer look, you wont end up with a defect notice...basically this is what I want - the confidance to be able to be pulled up and not have to worry about a full regency inspection if I do. Slip, by the sounds of it, I need to go to queensland:D

vendetta, sounds like you are convinced that anybody in a police uniform is shit, Hmm, bit like saying commodores are all crap shitboxes that should be on the tip, or, only juice and milk come in two litres. why is it people are predjudist, sometimes against race, sometimes against job, could be many things - its just a shame every body cant have an fair go.

Enrico, I dont think that you should be propositioning hippy on here, its not very romantic of you Hippy, I dont think the coppers are to blame, some are pricks but I think you will find that most are just doing a job. Once they bust someone, its the judges job to deal justice. Cheeky, I am sorry if the guy is a friend, as seeing friends in the shit, or copping flak is never a nice thing:( We all know that media need controversy to sell stories, or no one would want to buy there papers, or watch the news. As the media has made things public, wouldnt this be a good opportunity to tell the other side of the story, and perhaps get away from the usual media sensationalism? If you supress facts, thats when rumours and untruths abound, and stories get twisted., as does happen when you get a one sided sensationalist representation. But I do think that if anyone has got a problem, that they should be able to question it. Especially here which is a haven for freedom of speach. I dont know the full story, I am sure there is more than meets the eye, but seriously, if you didnt know this guy, wouldnt you be asking questions of a legal system that gives someone a fine equivelant to for speeding, for shooting somebody and crippling them for life? With out the full picture, I think anybody would, and should question. I do believe it was also a SA judge that commented it was OK to use force to convince a wife to have sex? They do get it wrong sometimes.

Thanks for the replies. I did a bit more research and it appears if, after extensive emissions, acceleration, braking and chassis testing, if all goes well and nothing needs modifying, would get out of it in SA for about 2k Hopefully, SA vehicle inspectors will allow interstate certification, might be able to get out of things a bit cheaper Paul, Here in SA, some of the inspectors will require certificates for anything that isnt OEM. There are only two places that do engineers certification (wich can be required for anything that isnt stock), and the cheapest is the one mentioned above. For example one guy I know of had a Z32 AFM on an R32 - inspector told him he had to remove as it wasnt OEM. A guy I work with has a stock range rover, they tried, but eventually failed, to not pass his car (rego transfer from WA) because the spare wheel on the back obscured the brake light from a particular angle. The only way to get permits for mods such as intercooler, pod, coilovers etc in SA is to get an engineers report, even then, regency can still refuse to pass the vehicle - they do things a bit different over here. You can even get the vehicle passed by regency, but you wont get permits off them - gotta be an engineers report. And the worst part is that they wont even tell you if they think the mod will be passed (if you apply in writing on the official application) they just say you need to bring it in after its done. Then if they decide they wont allow it (once again even with engineers cert), you just gotta remove the mod or deregister the vehicle. They dont make it easy. I was just hoping to find a way, say if the vehicle could have reports/permits made up interstate, that regency might let it go without the exorbitant expense of full ADR compliance engineers reports. Something you may find funny too, the engineer that I spoke too said that if the car doesnt meet emissions standards they can always fit an air pump to bring the values into line .... sort of makes a joke of the whole process, but that is an acceptable method, as long as the emissions meet specs.

Erin, my mum is a rev head, but my old man.... I wouldnt push my car past its limits, and as long as you dont then you shouldnt have any problems. Skylines are designed to be driven hard, not as a shopping trolley/commuter - have a bit of faith in the nissan engineers and watch the grin factor grow:D

Well after doing a bit of research, it would appear that there is a fair bit of difference between the costs of getting mods engineered - or engineer reports/permits. In WA, it appears that you can get certificates for your mods when you take a car over the pits, just pay a small extra fee (aout $40?) and presto, a piece of paper with permission to have the mods on your car. It appears that in NSW it isnt an overly expensive exercise to have these things done??? But not sure what the process is. In SA, I have made enquiries and it appears that there are only two places in Adeliade that will do engineers reports, and look at minimum of $300 PER MOD, ie thousands to get the car done. Does anybody have any idea what the regulations on who/where mods can get engineered, and especially, if I say get mods engineered in VIC, NSW, WA, NT, QLD - would these certificates still be valid in SA? or any other state? If anybody knows of workshops or companies in their home states that will provide these certificates, please post up as well. With if possible price summaries:) It may save me (and others hopefully) thousands of dollars Thanks for any replies. Steve

Flywheel /rear wheel hp

Agree completely. Loss may increase slightly with increased BHP, but I can't see how it would be linear, only marginal. -
You bring up a good point about judges. If you ask people what professions is the least trustworthy, after polititions alot of people would say lawyers. (well I know I dont trust them) If a lawyer is really good, he becomes a queens counsel(spelling), then charges 10 times what he did before. Then, if he is really really good, he will get made a judge and MAKE the law - one of the most untrusted members of our community are above the law! You will even be able to get away with things like DUI, while the average joe gets rooted up the a#se Polititions are in a similar situation. Paul Keating defrauded the govt by claiming travelling allowances between sydney and canberra whilst residing in canberr - he became PM. different rules for different people Sad, but what can you do? Shame the guy that got shot wasnt a politition or a judge - the wanker that did it would have got more than a small slap on the wrist - probably would have pushed for life in prison. DISCLAIMER: All the above comments are my own opinion, and in no way reflect any policy or thought in any capacity representing SAU:)

I havent had any probs except with availability of parts - can take a while to deliver if the parts arent on the shelf and I didnt get any feedback until I started asking questions. another guy I know got stung by customs on a turbo these guys sent over as the declared price appeared to be huge (they never put yen symbol on declaration), customs wanted to see an invoice and it all went down hill from there - so it ended up costing him more than some of the suppliers here could have sourced it for him. I felt pretty bad as I recommended them to him:(

BOOSTD, I was under the impression that JMS did this with their red R33 earlier on in the piece, not sure if they still run it that way, but might be worth asking?

Just checked. No go, they are too busy with cart stuff. No weekend or weekdays available. Said to check back a week or two before the date of the comp and they may be able to sort something
-
Spose its a matter of what you consider value for money. Some people think nothing of spending $200+ in a night out. God knows my best effore was over $1k (bloody kings cross:D) I certainly think my cams and cam gear are good value for money - I will get to enjoy them every time I drive the car - once they are in. They cost a bit more than the figure you quoted above too.
-
Enrico, already tried for some high speed runs on the staging area, no go:(
-
Maxx, how much is quite reasonable price? How many people would you need to make it somewhat viable, cos if its not too expensive, it would be worth seeing about organising regular praccy sessions:uh-huh:

hehehe, so they are

Well trade in your neons and get a set ..lol:D It cleared my axle tramp probs:)

Joel I think the idea of the head gasket is it makes a car less prone to detonation. It all comes down to the tune I suppose, but with 9:1 and stock pistons there is very little room for error ie bad fuel, changed weather etc. I look at the gasket as a bit of a safeguard, like fitting forgies but a hell of alot less expensive. Merli has 280rwkw with stock engine and 1.2 bar of boost (from memory), so it is possible to make respectable power without forgies or head gasket. bodge, the head gaskets on RB25 are pretty reliable, not sure what boost pressure you can run, but I havent heard of too many playing the weakest link in the RB25. the CR stock is 9:1, which will require very careful tuning to remain detonation free when you start winding in boost. How much boost is a question to be asking of the guy who is tuning it, ultimately that will be the deciding factor:) IMHO With that turbo, I really dont think you will need much more than 1 bar to be making around 220rwkw. I have seen that sort of figure from an SR20 on 1 bar, the turbo was a 3037S 56T on highmount manifold and at 1.5 bar it was pumping out over 280rwkw. He also had cams and adj cam gears though.

No, James from D1 picked it up for me when he was in Japa

Gotta keep the illusion alive:p -
Hope he doesnt blow his donk up before he gets to use the wheels. I should be in then so no probs at all, can get the other wheel fitted.
