Joel, just a thought, but have you found out what the price of these pistons are from holden? I say this because I have found in the past that when you get rebadged cars, the same parts are always cheaper from the aust company than the OS one. I got a water pump for my brothers telstar, when they were rebadged mazdas, and the same part was 3 times the price from mazda as from ford!

Found some Hypereutectic pistons not that expensive!

There is a thread that explains the relevance of boost and piston damage - basically detonation causes piston damage, not boost pressure - to qualify, boost pressure increases heat which may push a cylinder over the detonation threashold, but it is not boost directly - you just cant say xxpsi will stuff NA pistons, as long as you keep detonation at bay. And I agree totally with raist60. Especially once you go down the mod path, engines do ping from time to time with changes in climate, fuel etc. Almost impossible to completely eliminate. Quite often even a knock sensor wont pick up ping. TonyGTSt: there is a thread about forged pistons and $$, fatz says he can get forged pistons and rings for $1100/set of six. -
hehehe ... see that hippy, your a he/she lol Put in a metal head gasket and drop the compression to around 8.5:1... will make it alot easier.

It just never ends....

merli has 280rwkw, and I believe he puts his car on the track. this is with stock internals. I think alot of the problem is detonation, which is harder to keep at bay with the 9:1 CR, but with a really good tune - perhaps drop merli a pm too?
-
Having a correct sized afm enables better tuning at higher load/rpm. when you dyno the car, usually they will use an O2 senor, so it is still possible to tune after the AFM has run out of resolution, but not as accurately.

hippy, check pm

I wouldnt personally use the 2540s - they tend to be more of a drag setup, as they lack midrange. 2530s would haul - if you do a bit of a search, the 2540 vs 2530 has been discussed a bit on this forum - by people who have experimented with both, and 2530 wins hands down for twin setup. R34s (from memory) also use a nylon impeller, which is a bit more of a limiting factor, but on GTR, alot of guys seem to run over 1 bar with out too many dramas - bit different if you are running a single setup on gts.

PowerFC PRO has launch control

The injectors are the same impedance as RB25, but they are top feed - I have been told the RB20 fuel rail will fit on RB25 with top feed injecotors, but not sure exactly what is needed to make it all come together - Those injectors will be a bit small I would have thought anyways.

No, didnt make it. I actually came down with a really bad cold - started feeling pretty ordinary thursday, so wouldnt have been able to make it even if your car was going. what ended up being the problem?
-
sure hippy, for you $25:p

at least its not video. Hope you all had a good night - wish I could have been there, ah well - and hope Munro got suitably plastered?

Cheeky, think some of them would say there is a problem with 1/4 the hp - as long as it isnt aust delivered, you got probs Enrico, what does "VIS" mean? Sad thing is, if the copper wants to, he can just defect a car because in his opinion it looks like it 'may' be illegal. This send you a defect through the mail thing, its just going too far. I wonder what the criteria for one of these jobbies is? 'Um, thats a nice car!', 'yeah, too nice, lets send him a defect' Its just down right un-Australian. Sorry for bitching again this just really gets under my skin - if only there was something you could do! 9krpm - you think its silly getting defected for boost guages - whatsisname had to remove a momo steering wheel - which complies to ADRs - go figure? They are just plain out of control.

poss it's www.d1garage.com

For all those intereseted, I just updated the D1 website with some cheap parts from japan, and some stuff arriving in a few weeks.

Pineapples are for the rear cradle, and prevent axle tramp - the can be set up for drift, traction, or inbetween. If you look at the wheel from the front, camber is when it appears to be tipped over a bit - usually toward the middle of the car. This is esp noticeable in hardcore drift cars, as it increases turn in, but for general use it will chop out your tyres very quickly

Yep, soon everyone will be driving bog stock australian delivered cars only - wont that just be an exciting world? who will they pick on then? Seems they will have to do something to justify their pitiful existance. It would be interesting to see what sort of ratio of old clunkers/ nice imports go to regency. Martin, perhaps you could use aliases as well as removing plates? Pretty sad when you have to hide yourself away from the world becuase you improve your car though.
-
Well, Munro is no longer on his own. James (D1 Garage type) got a inspection notice from Regency after his car appeared in HPI magazine. Sad thing is, he decided to return the car to stockish and then sell it - it was a really nicely set up car. Note to all, IF you get your car featured, remove the plates before they start snapping away - MattR, when is yours being featured? I would be really interested if it is legal to do this perhaps its just safer to make sure your car never gets anywhere near a magazine. Maybe HPI should do an article on Regency and the current defect regulations, how these buggers are a law unto themselves and have the ability to issue defects at seemingly their own will. Just what are the rules on this? I think it seems to be going on a bit too much. Fair enough if you decide to get in a bit of drift practice in the middle of the city - you would expect to go a row. What's next? Any car that has any aftermarket parts fitted will be duely summonsed for an inspection? At this rate that will probably be the next step - there has to be a civil libitarian out there somewhere who would know wether this sort of thing is reasonable or not? /rant Sorry, just had to get that out of my system + wanted to warn anyone planning on letting a car mag near their car:)

If you lower the car, you will have to do a wheel alignment. Also if you lower too far, you may need to do your camber bushes.

Problem, Huge random miss, NOT Boost CUT
Steve replied to EnricoPalazzo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Not sure. My guess would be AFM, but I dont know enough about the actual fault to be certain, so I suggested check everything. I did have my O2 sesor wire short out to the exhaust (aftermarket dump) and that caused problems, but they were a bit more catastrophic than a tempory loss of power - it was total until I found and fixed the problem - long story. -
Something wrong there dude, I noticed a huge difference from the exhaust, and when the FMIC went on, my car just fryed the clutch.

Agreed filtering all the gasses would be ideal, (well nearly, venting them to atmo would be ideal, but illegal) and have them go through the plenum when not boosting, instead of the cooler, is better than having all the gasses go through the cooler all the time. Just think that for the work involved, as the amount of contamination of the cooler from cruise idle blow by would be miniscule, versus blocking the line from the rocker cover to the plenum - just not too sure it would be worth the extra buggerising around and the extra hoses 'untidying':) the engine bay. For me anyways. I like to keep things neat. Wouldnt it be easier to have two catch cans, one before the air intake, one between the rocker cover and plenum? - would be alot neater

E6K, does that batch fire?
