  1. Do you have aftermarket ECU? or fuel cut defender? stock gtst has fuel cut at about 12psi???? Even at 14psi with stock ecu, seems a bit strange that you are leaning out enough to cause detonation. Perhaps your injectors aren't flowing too well? or fuel pump? AFM playing up? Might be worth investigating.... Boost isnt too relevant to making power, airflow is. Different turbos flow differently at the same boost pressure. Unlikely the stock one will last at 14psi - esp without a decent cooler. It would be worth investing in a decent high flow or bb turbo. Some more things to think about.
  2. Sidewaymambo, yes it is - thanks very much. Something that may be worth considering with the NVCS - an adj inlet cam gear is usually only about 1deg adjusted, so it wouldnt make much difference - as far as I can tell?
  3. JimX, if it runs rich on front cylinders, good chance it is lean on rear cylinders, as dynos measure the average AFR, not individual cylinders.
  4. Sorry this is a little off topic, What cam manufacturers make cams that support he VVT - I was told that if I go aftermarket cam on the inlet (in this case HKS) I would have to loose the VVT?
  5. Well, I wouldnt hurt to do a 3L in that case, but it will be a little more expensive than the 2.5 due to needing to relocate the timing belt tensioner, new timing belt. But it wouldnt be a significant increase in cost. The stock turbo will be a bit small, but it wont hurt. I am a bit confused how you got 'too much boost' out of a stock turbo though. After you have done that, start asking questions. You are still being a bit vague, ie what sort of mods you have and what you are after when the job has been complete. If it were me, I would be doing the 3L, (but you are not me) dollar for dollar more bang for your buck - just remeber it will cost you alot more than the rebuild to get the most out of it - but that would be the case with the 2.5 bottom end too:)
  6. Erica, you can be so forceful...lol Good point though, THIS IS SAU
  7. Turbo, no mention of full boost at 3000 in the abovel post, might be worth another read
  8. Pistons and rods, depends on what sort of power you are chasing
  9. Injectors will be too small (only good for about 250rwkw with adj fuel pressure reg and fuel pump), turbo will be way too small. Exactly what do you have for this conversion? You would probably be better off getting everything else sorted before you go swapping to a 3L.
  10. Thanks Adam:)
  11. Did you exit the menu after changing the setting? This sounds a bit strange mate, I didnt have this proplem. Just guessing.
  12. Please excuse my ignorance, but why would air bubbles in the coolant indicate head gasket? I though that was oil in the coolant?
  13. Mark, when I first installed the power fc, I drove it around for about 2 weeks without tuning it. The base maps are very conservative, though usually not as much as the factory ones, so you will be safe. Remeber the check engine light will flash if you have the knock go above 60 IF this happens just back off straight away, but it is quite unlikely. You have to check that the check engine light on detection of knock has been enabled, if you read the manual, it should tell you how to do this - in the ETC menu again from memory.
  14. In WA when you get a defect, if they put the sticker on the right way around, it usually isnt too tought to get it removed, however you do see them put on upside down - lets the guys in the inspection station know that perhaps the owner of the vehicle was lippy, attitude etc (or that copper was being a prick) - end result is that they end up going over the car with a fine tooth comb - make life really difficult. Example: a mate lipped on (bragged about it after) and got an upside down sticker - when the car was inspected they picked on things like having grease on the grease nipples, took him 4 inspecitons from memory to get the car passed. I am assumining that it would be similar most places?
  15. You could try James at D1 Garage, he is getting one in for a customer, might be cheaper if he gets 2. His number is 8294 1355 tell him Steve sent you I have decided to stick with the 2.5, put the 3037 on myself and see if I can blow up the bottom end then go the 3L so its on the back burner for now. Probably get the spoiler on (along with a new rear bar) in about 2 weeks hopefully. Just got to get my manifold finished first. If James cannot find anything for you (doubt it - he lived in Japan for 4 years and has Heaps of contacts), drop me a line and I will see what I can source for you.
  16. Grepin, 250rwkw, have you thought about a HKS2835 internal gate? Should fit the bill nicely.
  17. RB25 are side feed, but if you use an aftermarket plenum, top feeds work well - as an example the sub-zero plenum for RB25 comes with a top feed fuel rail, also I have been told the RB20 fuel rail fits fine.
  18. Hippy what is happening to you? Starting to get a bit moral on us? 'dirty old men' (ok that one is true) and 'difiled... pristine sacred forums'. Hippy - snap out of it! ...lol
  19. From memory that dyno was from a comparison with an Apexi turbo? (done on the JMS red R33) and they ended up fitting the apexi one as it made boost earlier, better mid range, but not quite as much up top - HPI magazine or Zoom?
  20. HOTR33 - you thought is was a simple question:D
  21. Thats a funny site. Fliplflop boot lid, veilside barina and widebody excel:bahaha: They may offer a few performance products, but it isnt hard to see what market they cater for.
  22. Dan, I had mine fitted by C-Red in perth ALOT cheaper than $200.
  23. You cant have too little back pressure. Think about this, people spend alot of time and money getting the air in and OUT of the head as easily and quickly as possible - head porting, heat wrapping, etc - all designed to get the air out quicker. Back pressure will not help this, it will fight it, it will retain heat in the cylinders. What possible good does it do in the pursuit of hp???? The cat is a BIG restriction to the flow of the exhaust. If you ever get the chance have a look inside one - its scary. I read a post by Sydneykid where he flow tested a 3" (or was it 2.5" - Sydneykid) pipe, and found no restriction to air flow up to around 600hp air flow (help again Sydneykid!) or more. Another thing to consider is what mufflers/resonators are fitted to the exhaust. I originally fitted an N1 style exhaust - very loud but made boost very quickly and gave a good power increase. I then changed to a Nismo exhaust with 1 muffler and 1 resonator and I noticed the car slowed down, and made boost later. Both systems were 3". Sorry I can't back this up with dyno figures. My personal advice would be to get the biggest diameter, least restrictive exhaust that you can - it cant hurt! Then fit the highest flow cat you can find;) you'll love it.
