  1. You can buy block offs from your local repco, auto pro ect. In the mean time, find a bolt that will 'just' fit in the vacuum line, and plug it.
  2. LOL, and by having an interior (or the boot light on for R33) it does the same thing, when the light dies, the power is gone. I used this method and it has worked every time. You may enjoy playing with your brake pedal, but there are easier ways that are just as effective.
  3. How long? a few seconds.
  4. Yep, certainly do remeber you nice car and some nice driving too. Serioulsly guys, tolulene is your friend, your car will love you for using it And if your thinking of paying lots for fuel, I can also recommend elf LMS, 102 RON and at $5.50 per litre, it is awesome stuff if you have the money. Oh, and I found some cheap tolulene at Westfuels, $66 for 20L
  5. Rev210, no I dont have 33 timing maps. To reset the ecu, I just used to disconnect the battery and wait for the interior light to fade compeletly. Then reconnect and take your car for a thrash NB, its always good to warm your car up before doing a reset, so when you do go for a spin, you arent thrashing a cold engine. and for those intereseted, I just bought 20L drum or tolulene from Westfuels, 543? Abernathy rd kewdale for $66, works out at $3.30 per litre.
  6. 70 points??? I think the printers must have farked up. Most octane boosters only claim 3 to 4 points, which is barely noticeable anyway, if at all.
  7. If the OEM ecu detects knock, it pulls timing, and I can 100% guarantee it does this at WOT, not just closed loop. Resetting the ecu, causes it to reset and relearn its timing maps It does work, I have even seen the stock ecu relearn its power curve on a dyno after an ecu reset. Of course resetting wont give you indefinate timing advance, nor will it directly add or remove fuel into maps, but it does allow the ecu to readjust to new fuel, or new driving style. So I dont see where you are coming from with the no need for aftermarket management theory.
  8. avgas works really well, but it can kill your O2 sensor and cat, as it has lead in it
  9. even IF it were true that fuel lines rot from tolulene compare the cost effectiveness of replacing fuel lines, o-rings and fuel pump, with rebuild of engine hmm, tough choice. Seriously guys, dont listen to old wives tales, I have used tolulene, Rev210 has used tolulene, I know many people that regularly use tolulene (with other additives like avgas ) and NOT ONE of them, nor me has had any problems with rotting fuel lines Next time someone tells you it rots fuel lines, ask them if its from personal experience, if they say no - its just a rumour, if they say yes, ask them how long they were using it until the fuel lines rotted, what percentages, and how old the fuel lines were to start with. I am sure they will get very vague about their answers at this point.
  10. I found resetting the ecu worked well, just let the car work it out for itself but that was when I just used to throw 4L ( 2 ice cram containers) in half a tank of fuel - it was all pretty technical stuff Rev210 (aka DR Dangerous..lol would make a nice new nick) would you think it necessary to increase timing if you are doseing up your fuel to bring it back up to 98?
  11. BP perry ave bull creek has some left, not for long though..
  12. Phobic, starting with 98, it should give you over 100, as per my above post
  13. Never heard of that one. Octane boosters will often contain tolulene to boost the octane. Remember and octane booster will raise the octane by 4 points, which would take 96 ron to 96.4 ron - doesnt really help if you are chasing 98 ron. Tolulene is added to petrol by the manufacturers to boost its octane rating (resistance to knock) - it will clean your fuel system, but it wont foul it. I have never had a problem, most I have used is 4L with round 30L in the tank - so approx 13%. Rev210, how much have you used before?
  14. update, tenagah have run out of tolulene, but will have more on wednesday. They sell it for $3.85 per litre, normally sell it in 20L drums, but said they will be selling it by the litre to help people out during bp's lack of 98ron.
  15. Josh, the rule of thumb that I use is 5% for every 1 RON, so 96 ron to 98 would be 10% - this is slightly overestimating, but would see you right AFAIK Keefy, Tolulene is a aromatic hydrocarbon. It has several uses, including a cleaning solvent, paint stripper, making explosives and fuel additive to raise its resistance to knock. It is, afaik, used by some fuel manufacturers for exactly that purpose, and it works quite well. I beleive F1 used to use high percentages of tolulene in their cars many years back. I have found its a handy additive if you intend giving your car an unusually hard thrash, or even driving in the country where there is no 98 ron available (long interstate trips) just to keep knock under control. If you retune your car (as Rev210 suggests) you will get even better results as you can increase timing - because of the greater resistance to knock. It will be very handy should I run out of 98 ron due to these bloody bp shenanigans
  16. excellent A few of the regular faces missing, but the rain made it interesting. if you want Drift Aust in WA, make sure you check out the thread on the forums at DA.
  17. from abc.net.au BP defends delay in going public over fuel shortage As reserves of premium unleaded fuel dry up in Western Australia, petrol producer BP has defended its decision to delay telling motorists about the problem. BP supplies premium unleaded to more than 600 retailers state-wide but has been unable to produce the fuel since a mechanical fault occurred at its Kwinana refinery. The breakdown occurred two weeks ago but BP only went public yesterday. Company spokesman Peter Metcalfe says service stations are already starting to run out. "There's around about a dozen BP sites have run out completely and I think in all honesty that situation is likely to grow," he said. Mr Metcalfe has defended the time it took to alert the motoring public. He says the company was not sure at first whether it had an issue and, once the scale of the problem was realised, it tried unsuccessfully to source additional supplies from overseas. Motorists who can are being urged to switch to regular unleaded until supplies are restored - hopefully - by late this month. The Motor Trade Association says the fuel shortage shows there is a need to set up fuel reserves in Western Australia. The executive director of the association, Peter Fitzpatrick, says the Government should stockpile fuel to help deal with any future shortages. "We are very exposed with one refinery where you can have it break down or get some contamination, and I think that the Government, and I've asked them to do it, to look at it before, should have a strategic reserve set aside for just this sort of contingency," he said.
  18. cheers rev210, I was actually thinking of a bit of added insurance when I am on the track - and also incase I cant get any 98 ron for a while
  19. nice write-up, I love the bit where you are drilling with the cap clamped between your bare feet... lol
  20. Thanks for the replies Joe and Mitchy, I live near jandakot, so might try there first thanks again, And I am well Joe, how are you going these days
  21. do RAC and GIO insure grey imports?
  22. Anybody know where to get tolulene? I did a search, and couldnt find any info. there must be somewhere? cheers Steve
  23. Local servo ran out, one down the road has some, enough for a week or two he said. he also said they were told not to expect more until december I filled up the jerrys
  24. Ditto, I am not sure how they compare price wise, but I am with unique and dont have a problem, they just rape me once a quarter and then its all good for 3 months
  25. Hi guys, just thought I would let you know (incase you didnt) that Drift Australia's final round for 2005 is on SBS this sunday at 12 noon
