  1. Hey Bambam, glad you asked the Q as I want to head this way too:) , Brett, could you tell us where you sourced the paints and stuff? - you mentioned spray guns?? Also do you recommend rubbing down the final coat before putting on a clear? Any other type of finish recommended? and maybe a coulple of pics of the finished job?? Cheers Steve
  2. I have only tried the Turbosmart BOV, and was very happy with the results. Virtually never backfires (unlike a mate that is running a jap BOV), and is fully adjustable. The type 3 at $280 sounds like a pretty good deal. Just my 2c worth Steve

GTS-4OrCeD, dude just out of interest, how much do the nittos cost and what sort of mileage??? Cheers
  4. Might be worth checking out UAS or Just Jap as I think they have them in their online catalogues

Guys, going to have to do a shameless plug for the boys at beaurepairs in Rocky - they gave me a great deal on the REVSPECs: 2 x 234/45/17 and 2x 255/40/17 fitted for 1k. Saved several hundred on the list price. Steve
  6. Really, really nice job there. How did you prep them? What sort of paints did you use and how did you finish them? I have been thinking about doing the same, but haven't tried anything like that before so any tips would be great As for the valve, I beleive they are available from most auto shops. I just remebered a way that a mate said he did it too, although it was a long time back so I'm not sure if I have it exactly straight (and he was a bit of a bush mechanic). He said it was possible by running a thin plastic tube of the bleed into a plastic container as it pumped out the air and if it sucked back it only got fluid. Sounds about right to me - 'spose you could always experiment on a mates first:p Steve
  7. Not sure if this is right or not, but I have heard that when you connect the PFC for the first time you have to deselect the boost control option if you are not running the boost controller or you get sensor errors as the PFC cannot find it (boost controller). If you do not have the boost control package, please disregard this post Hope it helps Steve
  8. Dude, sorry I can't answer your q directly, as I have absolutely no idea. However I was just thinking if you are worried about bleeding the brakes by yourself, I thought that it was possible to get a valve for bleeding your brakes that is non return, so you can do 'em by yourself:) Just thought it might be a bit easier than dicking around. Please post up your results, with any tips for people attempting this as I am planning on having a go at the calipers myself pretty soon. Cheers Steve
  9. Adam, check your PM Steve
  10. Calling them to get a positive result on the insurance probably wont help. I am insured with them, and when I rang with a general question about my policy they told me that when my policy comes up for renewal - they wont run with it anymore - too expensive they said. Time to start looking elsewhere
  11. Heard good things about redline, haven't tried them myself though - just a though, why not ring some one like x-speed or c-red and ask what they recommend? Steve
  12. No argument there Adam 32, just checking to make sure I had things straight. I suppose this also brings up that lightening a vehicle will make some difference to the outcome, perhaps ditch some extra weight to try and get your times down - mmm shifting away from the terminal speed/ET thing a bit though:rolleyes:
  13. Have been told by one of the performance houses over hear that the best 'reliable' hp you can run before needing to start thinking about going to forged pistons is about 350 rear wheels. Not sure if he just wanted to sell pistons, but at the time the conversation had an emphasis on reliability to the point of being able to run all day every day
  14. I was under the impression that if you knew the terminal speed, and the weight of the vehicle at the time of the run, it was the only true way to calculate rwhp and therefore optimum obtainable (perfect launch etc) 1/4 mile time??
  15. MrSnrub, Have you acutally reported it to the police yet? Make a complaint of vandalism, then after he has been through the process, being interviewed, his mates being interviewed, etc, they may be able to lay charges, then taking your own legal action to recover the monies may not even be necessary. Another possiblility, go and see one of those 'fee free unless we win' lawyers and go the personal legal action line. You may not need to go to court as quite often the threatening legal letter is quite enough to get results. I think Freidman Laurie Singh do that sort of a deal. Maybe with an appeal to the conciuosness of right and wrong to the guys that witnessed, and heard this dick spruking on about his acomplishments you may have a good case. Also if the guy is ready to cough up $300 for letting tyres down I reckon he is either as guilty as hell, or one of the most f@cking stupid individuals on the planet. Steve
  16. G'day Slayer, You could try one of the import yards, see who they recommend as they probably get this sort of problem from time to time. Have you tried a good cutting compound and a buffing wheel (or even just by hand) as I think that this is about all the detailers do anyway??? Many years ago a mate and I had a go at doing a restoration to a faded paint job, 2 cans of kitten cutting compound and many hours later it looked pretty sweet. The only downside was after about 12 months the paintwork started getting a bit shabby again, but not nearly as bad as before we cut it back. Maybe it started to fade again as it was a '71 ford and the paints they used in those days weren't so good??? Apart from the paint was there many surprises?? Congrats on the arrival, hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine:) Steve
  17. NIZ30, oops didn't read the thread properly, please disregard the statement about upgrading your shocks as I noticed you have GAB adjustables. I suppose your main task would be to find a spring rate that you find comfy. Steve
  18. I have Ohlins suspension (coils and adjustable shocks) and the ride is bloody awesome, my brother upraged his springs (height and rate) with stock shocks, the ride is annoying to say the least, it was better stock as the shocks don't keep up with his new springs. $1200 for decent coilover suspension is a bargain - whiteline new coilovers are around the $3500 mark - and as they are adjustable, you can dial in the ride you prefer, and change the dampening of the shock, it doesn't get much better does it?? I would recommend if you do change your springs, change the shocks to match any new spring rate. If you are just going for a height change and keeping the same spring rate I wouldn't have a clue (only be guessing) if you would have to change the shock.
  19. is the Razo gear knob still available??
  20. Turtle, this may sound a little weird, but I had the same problem and fixed it by going down to spotlight and buying some 2" thick quilting material and some spray glue. I then cut several pieces to size and stuck them everywhere I could in the boot that was out of sight. This actually helped immensley and was quite cheep - about $15 all up. The end result was no more headaches. The exhaust is still loud but not deafening. Just hope the EPA don't find me Steve
  21. You could try C-Red
  22. John, Jeff just had a new bub, so things have been a bit hectic. If you need work done to the car just give Lumpy a call - he looks after the tuning and performance side of C-Red. His number is 9356 3000. I have dealt with them for a while and have never beens disapointed. Hope this helps Steve
  23. Good call Skyzerr33.... Let the boys in blue do what they do. I can really sympathise with you at the moment, I had my car stolen and trashed by 'under age offenders' a while back. They were caught and convicted, it wasn't the first time the little cherubs had offended and they went a row - that made me feel a bit better at least. Steve
  24. Slayer, You could try talking to Lumpy at C-Red. They do get a bit of 2nd hand gear in as well as having pretty good prices on new gear, eg new 3" stainless cat back for $990 fitted. Lumpy and the guys down there are quite free with the advice and don't mind giving you some time to discuss your power needs and work out a long term/short term plan. I highly recommend them.
  25. Slayer, I had one fitted whilst the only other mods I had done were pod filter and exhaust, and had a very similar experience to yours with the WRX - reduced lag on gear changes. It was a well worthwhile addition I thought, even if some people do think they are 'rice'. Had the turbosmart type II, you can also get an adaptor kit for an extra $50, and they bolt on to the stock pipe work. The type II are also really easy to adjust, stopping most of the nasty backfiring associated with externally venting BOVs. Steve
