looks like someone has a case of 'bigger is better' syndrome. its sort of like the ultimate rice:p wonder how big his BOV is? -
Is this a low mount or high mount manifold??
Steve replied to Bl4cK32's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Bl4cK32, a piece of 40 or 50mm mandrel bend, weld to a flange, shouldnt be too hard for the average custom engineering place - perhaps Boostworx? they do a bit of custom stuff. -

Perfect, you could just have a small hole for the screamer pipe out the bonnet! would look nice at night. sorry, its out of my system now.... -

Yep, and you could mount the screamer pipe so it points to the side:p so that was a new manifold? if you dont mind, could you pm me the price and where you got it from. I may need to upgrade mine in the future. -

INASNT, the top mount is for the wastegate. Have a look at the two runners with the bolt direction different from the other four. The two that are different go to the rear of the block. Bl4cK32, have you had the inside de burred/tidied up? It may be worth ceramic coating or wrapping it before it goes on too. Looks like a vast improvement on the stock item, as the gasses are merged rather than slammed into eachother. If it doesnt fit, just get a hump in the bonnet, or even a raised vent. Would serve a dual purpose that way. -
If fitted with airbag, it must have one regardless of which wheel is fitted. As you point out, only some momo steering wheels. Its initeresting though that momo no longer stamp the e on their wheels (european equivelant of adr approval) because the european rules no longer require the stamp if the wheel has been approved. Also interesting that STis have Nardi steering wheels fitted. I wonder if all the STIs out there would get failed by regency???? thanks for the contact details, I did some investigating about trade plates, and one of the reasons you can use them is to drive a car to 'a workshop or place of repair' - so the guy I know who got raped at the defect station driving to morpowa on trade plates has a pretty good case:)

Congrats Matt, as long as you are making gains thats the main thing - considering where your boost starts building, you have a great package there. -
Anyone got a contact number for the Police Complaints Authority? NeverNaughty?

Martin you tease... This is why I just picked HKS catalogue items, all the research in the world was just giving me headaches - too many different ideas on what works and what doesnt. I chickened out and went the combo that allowed me to run the largest cam, under 9mm lift, that still allowed me to use VVT - after all it is a street car (and having a HKS turbo, HKS cams seemed a good choice:p). And for those who are wondering, the car is alot crisper with the VVT connected than disconnected, so it must be doing some good. Martin, what sort of combos do you recommend, that you have seen work well, for street and/or strip?

P1E, thats interesting, Whatsisname got told to remove his Momo steering wheel, as they said it didnt comply with ADRs. Perhaps you got one of the better ones. doglet, that is a bloody awesome idea.

Riverside, the gtr and z32 pumps (both the same) have the little diaphram sitting on top of them, other nissan pumps dont.

DoughBoy, sorry, never meant to imply that you were assualting SK, just like the chuffmaster comment. so all you people who seem to think that HKS are no good, that Garrett generic brand turbos are just fine - ask yourself, if someone offered you a Garrett GT30 of your choice, or a HKS 3037S 56T to fit to your RB25, which would you take? I will take a proven product any day over someones guess work, or a broad market product. but hey, each to their own. And as for Keir being sponsored by Trust, didnt know that, but if so, how did he get there? with trust turbos. Munros 3L is still not on the road, so what it 'may' do in the future is not really valid IMHO. I was merely using them as examples, just as Try09 was.

NP, I remember hearing about if there is 3 or more items its compulsory regency inspection. I know a guy who got done for 2 things, ride height and a guage inside the dash (he was told it should be on the pillar!) - he only had to present the car at the local police station for defect removal. Like so many things, it just never is the same. I think you will find all the things mentioned above will vary depending on the inspector. I know of a guy who was passed with a recirc aftermarket BOV. Another who wouldnt be passed because the inspector didnt know what the little black box under the dash was - it was his cruise control. crazy situation at the moment.
-
You will notice the difference.

Wife just reminded me, she is in Perth for her brother's wedding, so I am on baby sitting duties all weekend:( bloody outlaws....
-
Erica, if you got defected for only the BOV, isnt it standard practice to allow the car to go to a police station to have the defect removed, rather than a full regency inspection? Just wondering, cos if it is just the one thing, it might be worth addressing the fact that they are deviating from standard practice with the crowd that are looking into it for you.

Oh, and do either Keir Wilson or John Munro run garret turbos? No. Ask Keir Wilson if he would bolt on a garrett garden variety turbo (or a chuffmaster) and he would probably laugh at you.
-
SK, so seriously, do you think garrett do the R&D for free? why is it when HKS showcase a new turbo design at an autosalon, that isnt quite ready for production, that garrett dont showcase it instead? esp if garrett are fully responsible for it. And why do you think it is that Nissan send cars to HKS for R&D on turbo conbinations, instead of garrett, if garrett are the ones doing all the work. Money talks, and I am sure if garrett were the driving force behind HKS turbos, wouldnt it make economic sense to go straight to the creator? Basically, common sense doesnt point to HKS merely stamping (or casting) its initials on a turbo and flogging it for a premium. The 'chuffmaster' range (thanks DoughBoy) may work for you, but apparently not for others. And I must agree with DoughBoy, I have seen the price of brand name turbos almost double here when certain companies stock them - really not necessary. If you look at the price of name brand turbos in Japan, they really are not alot dearer than garret here in Aust (and can be had at decent prices if you know where to look, in full ready to bolt on kit form, arent that expensive AND they work). There are a few places that sell for reasonable prices, but they dont seem to be the mainstreem companies. Whilst there are companies that do get certain combinations right, it seems alot are still guessing. Why dont they publish compressor maps? because they dont make turbos for mix and match? I am not 100% sure. They are not the only ones. There are turbo companies here in aust that when they develop a particular turbo wont release the compressor maps, so they arent on their pat malone. lastly, if I remeber correctly, it was you that described HKS2530s on a gtr as 'heaven on a stick' - havent heard a comment from you like that about the chuffmaster range. (your right DoughBoy, that is damn funny:)) You really do have a thing about companies hiding those compressor maps from you, makes me laugh:)

Yes Rob, thats a pair, jap made ones.
