  1. Not at all Clint, I would love to see them run. At the end of the day, I really dont give a rats arse if I am competative or not, its all just about having a good time no?
  2. Thanks for the detailed reply SK. It sort of confirms what I am thinking with regard to spring rates. I run a slightly heavier car, stock they are 1380kg, so with me in it, I am guesstamating around 1450-1470kg all up. This combined with the fact that I have bridgestone, not yoko r tyres, may explain why it feels like it needs harder springs. By 'tight' I was referring to how well the car sits on the road. The back seems to be better planted than the front with the 8kg springs, think its time to try and find some 12kgs for the front Thanks for your help.
  3. It will happen. Any improvement to flow characteristics (it seems esp on the ehxuast side), will mean more power at lower boost. If a turbo is pushing 10psi boost, but against a heavy resistance, once you remove the resistance, you get more flow at the same boost. Boost pressure only comes about because of resistance, so the higher the resistance, the higher the pressure will be with the same volume of flow - and vice versa. Just like upgrading an exhaust I suppose. Please feel to flame away if I am off the mark here, but its my understanding.
  4. I'll remeber that there are fast ones and slow ones on the day, thanks T-man:) OK, whoever wins, its cos you got a fast one (unless its me cos I weigh so much it wont matter how fast the cart is - wonder if I can tinker with the rev limiter....).
  5. hmmm, 1JZ... nice.
  6. Brasso from coles, works fine. I use meguires plastic polish too, after I wash the car. Mine were yellow, but the brasso cleaned them up like new. If you want second hand lights, I am pretty sure www.d1garage.com had a pair when I was in there last (saturday)
  7. Oh, but the problem with the original trust is it doesnt fit GTSt, and I couldnt justify spending 2K getting a gtr bar to fit a gtst
  8. yep I like the original trust, Nismo is not my thing, nor abflug, but I wouldnt put someone elses car down. some other photos of the bar, once again, I can appreciate if its not your thing, but dont see the need to knock someone elses taste. At least, as a package, I know there are no others exactly the same in aust.
  9. rb25, sock, your front bars are so nice eh?
  10. should have mentioned, when checking if the AAC valve is the problem, make sure the car is fully up to temperature, and starts hunting, then adjust about 1/2-1 turn anticlockwise (opening), if this makes no difference it probably isnt the AAC vavle. If it does improve, but not enough, just open it a bit more.
  11. OK, well I assume you are saying the car normally sits on 700rpm? If its stock, I believe the idle is around 660rpm for a manual, but anyway... If it is hunting between 500-600 at times, the first thing I would be checking is the AAC valve. this is located at the back of the plenum, and bleeds air into the plenum to maintain the correct idle speed. If it is hunting, its possible that the valve has a little carbon blocking it. By adjusting the screw, it should identify if that is the problem or not. Other things to consider, when did you last change the spark plugs? Do you give it good runs, or does it do mainly short trips? (this can cause the plugs to foul) If you do mainly short runs, it could be worht changing the plugs more regularly, or giving the car a good dose of WOT every now and then. Good luck. Try the AAC vavle first though.
  12. Sorry West, can you restate what your idle is doing? I dont really understand your problem from the above post. also, list of mods might help.
  13. Sorry for all the whoring Lachlan, I'll stop now (unless Martin keeps going)
  14. no probs, I dont think you will like it much though, rattles around heaps. Someone said something about bolting it in?????
  15. What have you heard? It doesnt surprise me one little bit. there were too many nests being feathered by charging exhorbitant prices, it was only a matter of time before people realised that there was a quick buck to be made. when you add up the cost of getting replacement stock parts and the labour to fit them, then compare the rediculous prices to get an emissions test done (its interesting that Tim Ireland has the final say here - and he says you need to fork out for a FULL $3500 ADR emissions test, before he will pass anything, and then only if he wants to). Engineers' reports cost more than 3 times what they do in other states, and once again, they can still knock it back. No wonder, when you start paying such huge amounts of money to get a car legal, of course the opportunity is going to be too big to resist. The shame of it all, is that they cant see that the processes in place, because they are almost impossible to comply with, create such situations.
  16. If you were only making 6.8psi with cat back, I would say you still have some pretty serious back pressure issues. You gotta let the car breathe, more so on the exhaust side, as back pressure absolutely kills power! Get rid of the stock cat, and take a good hard critical look at your cat back system. I went from an N1, which I replaced with a Nismo system, as the N1 was too loud, and lost power everywhere - it was quite dramatic. I have since upgraded to a HKS super dragger. What I am getting at is not all cat back systems are equal. If its quiet, it will be killing power. Best way to test, if you are sceptical (and probably good to try either way) is to get the car on the dyno for a power run with the exhaust dropped - takes about 10 minutes to remove. It is a pretty cheap way to find out for sure.
  17. Martin, who would say such a horrible thing, I am a ricer to the bone! Matt, yep, some stickers and perhaps I can borrow one of your neons for a while? gotta be worth a few killer watts.
  18. Thanks for the reply SK. So what brands have you tried and which are your favourites and why? I dont have the top of the range ohlins fitted, just basic damp (and rebound) adjust (both on the same adjust knob). I have them set pretty firm. I have fitted just about everything else I can think of, but the car still doesnt handle the way I would like. I havent timed it around a track, I can only go by feel - but thats what its all about for me, the pleasure of driving. The springs are still a bit too bouncy (for want of a better word) for my liking. I have just fitted some 8kg springs on the back, and it feels alot better than the front, which is also around the 8kg mark from what I can tell. At the moment the rear feels alot tighter than the front. Also, some springs work better than others, esp with progressives. So any info on brands would be good. It gets a bit confusing when so many different shops recommend different setups, its a bit hard to know if they have actually tried many different types, rates, heights etc. So the recommendations can be a bit biased if you know what I mean. thanks again Steve
  19. Go INASNT, good luck, I am barracking for you - too many coppers that seem to think their word is law - stick it to 'em!
  20. Modified Trust bar. fibrevision in WA make them, I believe Jetspeed may also do one. I have one, but uses the round holes for indicators rather than mounting just under the lights.
  21. Nice result Lachlan. The manifold at Autobarn looks alot like the trust one, which is around 3 times the price. I agree 100% on the merge the gasses before they hit the turbine housing, and as you say, bigger ID is all good. At least it will sound alot tougher, I reckon the note is worth the price alone:)
  22. NP, I weigh around 250kgs:D I am good for sunday
  23. Sounds like master cylinder. Any decent auto workshop, tilbrooks, boostworx, morpowa etc. For parts, I would recommend you check places like D1 Garage or JMS - probably cheaper than getting the workshop to source them for you.
  24. Hi Guys, Just wondering what springs people use out there? My car isnt a cruise around town setup, I like a car that handles well, ie, hard suspensions go kart style:) Having said that, I dont want rock hard shake the car to pieces. I have heard alot of recommendations for around 400lbs front and 250-300 rear. I just dont think that would be hard enough, as I have been in silvias with 12/10 and 10/8kg combinations and they handled very well (well, the way I liked). So, if anybody has played with spring rates, or has a combination that they like, please post up. I am currently running ohlins height adj shocks, that take stock sized springs, so items such as the Tein S-Tech. If you could include spring brand and rates, that would be awesome. Also, if you have had any bad experiences, let me know also Thanks heaps for all comments/thoughts. Steve
  25. Just did a search for 805/388-1188, its the phone number for wilwood:) kil41T, any chance you know what model number they are?
