the 400r is an rb26 and was supposedly 400bhp - who knows, not too many people actually own them:). Nismo do make crate engines AFAIK, but you still need all the support systems to make it work. The performance is only ever as good as the weakest link, whatever it may be.

HICAS LOCKING anyone have this done?
Steve replied to Hiroshima Screamer's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
bugger, that could really ruin your day. ok, I am worried now:( -
not at all, just have some trouble believing it when it looks "stock as a rock" I would love to see it done. I do find it hard to imagine how you can get a stock looking turbo to make that sort of power - then there is the stock manifold - big restriction, stock plenum would be pretty restrictive too, not to mention the stock TB. then there is 'sounds smooth, not noisey' well I found the nismo 3" exhaust, which wasnt that quiet at full song, became quite a restriction at anywhere above 285rwkw, so I would love to know what he is running. If I can make power with a quiet exhaust I am all for it - less attention. I seriously would love to see this car.

HICAS LOCKING anyone have this done?
Steve replied to Hiroshima Screamer's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I bought it off someone on this forum (no names, no courtmartials). I was going to see if there is anyone at work who might be able to get it done for me, as some of the guys have good contacts:) But failing that, it would be great if you could help me out, thanks very much for the offer. I may be in touch early next week So its just 16mm drill, then tap it out accordingly? I have a spare tie rod to get the tap right, so at least I dont need to pull one off my car:) thanks heaps once again steve -
HICAS LOCKING anyone have this done?
Steve replied to Hiroshima Screamer's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
well, I bit the bullet and had a go at fitting my HICAS lock bar, only to find the threads were tapped for the OTHER end of the tie rods so had to put it (the HICAS) back on, and now I got to try and find someone who can tap the lock bar out to the correct thread..... pretty funny really. But it is very straight forward and only requires a 30mm spanner ( or a shifter ) and a 19 mm socket. -

I'd really love to see that... if you know this guy any chance of posting up some pics of the engine bay, and a dyno sheet?

The Clutch Thread - FEEDBACK PLEASE
Steve replied to raist60's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
How? cos it is... if you have driven cars with twin plates before, you should be aware that they definately arent the same - just as singles arent the same. Also, you can get extended throw out levers if the clutch is too heavy - makes them even easier to drive. I have found with the OS twin, I dont even notice the weight anymore. Its very smooth to take off, just bites a bit quicker and harder, so not too hard to adjust the driving style to allow. Alot easier than the 9 puck extreme clutch that I had. -
ROFLMAO - your confusing the SAPOL with the fashion police...lol Its a bit ironic, these beaurocratic (fark that was a big work, I need rest now.........) law makers were in their 20s during the 70s, (anybody seen the insurance adds on TV lately?) it was all about drugs, sex and rock and roll - and protests. A hugely rebellious era, where it was a requirement to challenge the system - now these are the onese that strip freedom off the average person at an ever increasing rate.

tribex, unless you are changing the clutch yourself, it wont really be very cheap in the long run once you change a few. -

Depends on the single, I managed to kill an extreme clutch 9 button ceramic ferride jobby pretty quickly, they dont seem to like much over 200rwkw. the twin os giken I have now was not alot more expensive (second hand), and is so much nicer to drive on the street, and has no probs holding bigger power. Just wish I didnt waste the money scewing around with the single and gone straight to the twin - I was worried the twin would be too harsh for a daily driver - expensive lesson. -
PS, I know not all cops are like this, but under the road traffic act, you have no rights, so cops can abuse the power. Criminals at least are innocent until proven guilty.

yeah, its funny, I rang up qld to see about getting my mods permitted there (due to the rediculous cost involved in SA - then there is no guarantee they will pass it) only to be told that I dont need permits for any of my mods (ecu, boost, turbo, sus), as you can change all that without permits/engineering reports. maybe the cops there are too busy chasing theives???? The police here make press releases about targeting old bombs, and getting rust buckets off the road - what a feed of hot c0ck! If the govt was so concerned about old cars, why is it that a car can run out of rego for up to 5 years without needing an inspection to be re-registered? Mr Tim Ireland, the head of regency told me if I want to modify a car, modify a pre 1972 one, as no emissions requirements apply and I can do pretty much what I want. (such as twin turbo V8) - now that really reflects the interests of the community. My wife has had her bag stolen out of the car, whilst the car was in the driveway, and whilst she dropped the kids off at daycare - saw the guys that did it, got rego number of the car, descriptions etc. Even followed them and saw one of them go into a bottle shop (where he attempted to use a credit card, so he would have been on CCTV as all bottle shops have them these days). Cops just took a statement, said they didnt have the resources to chase theives. While she was there (waiting to make her statement) she discussed the whole defect situation with a cop, who told her he will always pull over an import to defect it - nice. Neighbour had her car broken into, smashed every window and trashed the interior - cops took a statement. where are the priorities in this society? protecting the public? It just so screams of hipocrasy.

Steve replied to Hiroshima Screamer's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
thanks scooby, I tried and failed to locate much on actually locking the R33 with a removal bar. -
thats bizaare, QLD seem to let people do almost anything to a car. the federal road rules say spacers are not allowed, perhaps this is why? interesting though that if they bolt to the hub they are legal - sounds good to me:)

SK, I did a search, but couldnt find it:( perhaps the thread is too old? any tips for replacing hicas with a lock bar on an R33, I got a lock bar today (thanks ender), and want to fit it ASAP cheers steve -

is R33 R200? I thought it was. Is the R31 diff IRS? will the R33 diff (between the driveshafts and tail shaft) bolt in place?

The Clutch Thread - FEEDBACK PLEASE
Steve replied to raist60's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Also, I did have an extreme clutch ceramic, but that died a horrible death (material came off in chunks). It was alot more severe on the road too, os clutch is alot smoother, and bites harder. -

OS Giken twin plate, unsprung centre - approx 320rwkw. excellent bite, easy to drive on the street, not too heavy. I can drive this quite easily in traffic too. Easy to launch, as you can load it up then feed it out as you leave the line. it was necessary to have the car tuned where the initial bite is, so you dont have to pick up the revs and dump to get off the line cleanly - but a few minutes of tweaking and its perfect to take off nice and smooth. -

THIS LOW RPM ENGINE STALLING SAGA POSSIBLY SORTED
Steve replied to BOOSTMEISTER's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Does anybody know where is/how to service the cold start idle valve (or whatever is used for cold start) I replaced the mesh on the back of my AFM (on advice from a Japanese performance mechanic), as he said this will be causing the idle problems I was having (air reverting off the compressor wheel) - it worked very well, on my car and another guys (who both had the mesh removed from the AFM) - the car has never idled so well. But still there is one niggling little anomoly that I would like to sort. The idle is almost perfect, except when the engine is warming up, and is sitting around 78-79 deg C, so I am thinking this last piece of the puzzle has to be to do with the valve that bleeds air on cold start. Anybody got any ideas? Cheers -
