Any Direct Injected 300gt / 250gt V35's?
sonicii replied to chad bob's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Don't think nissan are using the DD engines anymore, they phased them out in the mid 2000's.. the maximas run a VQ25DE and a VQ35DE.. the V36 250GT is a VQ25HR. -

I don't think the police really know what's banned and what isn't.. I watched one of those 'police patrol' TV shows a while back based in Melbourne.. they pulled over a p plater in a BMW 335 for expired rego. wasn't until they were about the let him go that their computer told them a 335 is a twin turbo 6cyl.. and therefore restricted.. Their computer probably doesn't even know what a 350GT is.. and it clearly isn't a lamborghini. -

I can under stand the mess in the plenum with EGR and PCV messing things up.. but why is the throttle body covered in crap too? -
I believe they both have the same connector which is why this harness says it will suit either, but the D2R bulb has an intergrated reflector to use in low beam applications. the D2S doesn't
-
HIDs do have a smal delay, but the most noticeable effect is the don't come on at full brightness when cold, they take about 15 seconds or so to reach full brightness, and they tend to be a bit 'blueish' as they warm up.
-
The lens housing will say D2R even if halogens have been fitted. It would be safer to look for the ballast connections, or even better, remove the existing bulb.
-
I generally stick to the terms 'HID' and 'halogen'. Xenon is a bit ambigious as HIDs are filled with Xenon gas, but you can get halogens with traces of Xenon gas also. So the term Xenon doesn't really define the type of lamp. As Sean said, factory low beam are HID. If the car was complied proplery, they would have been removed and had halogens fitted. However there are plenty of V35s getting around still with their factory HIDs in tact, either re-fitted after compliance, or complied by a workshop that didn't know they need to be removed.

Is It Worth 1St Tune Your V35?
sonicii replied to V35A's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Building the engine to suit is probably the safest path, as power can be addictive, and everyone will always want 'just a bit more'. That said I have a friend running 9psi via a stillen supercharger on VQ30DE A32 Maxima with stock internals. He has had it for about 4 years now, and doesn't exactly drive it nicely.. no engine issues yet. Who knows if it will last, but it certainly didn't become a hand grenade after a few thousand km. -
2008+ V36 Skyline 370Gt 4-Door - Wanting To Buy
sonicii replied to pantad's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Agreed. And my guess is Infiniti Aust. are waiting for the V37 to be released, rather than importing the V36, and upsetting the buyers with a new model after a few months. -

Your best chance would be to sign up with one of the importers and tell them what you want. They can keep an eye on the auctions in Japan for you and let you know when something comes up. -
You will need to clear the fault code to get rid of the CEL. The link on the first page should help with that.

^^ what he said.. (except it is under 210kw in Qld). That is why I previously said that if Qld Transport ever decide to ban the 350GT, you don't have any hope of getting an exception.. -

Sorry, that was my point.. it isn't illegal/restricted for you in Qld.. it is under 210kw, isn't a V8 or turbo charged.. so you don't need to worry.. -
Us Suppliers I've Used
sonicii replied to Skylinetragic's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I've used conceptz performance a few times. Coz is very helpful and always replies to emails. http://www.conceptzperformance.com/ -
No.. Silver...stock sedan, other than coupe 18s.

It probably is a good idea to clear this data when making any significant changes. But I reset mine a couple of months back and reduced my fuel economy for a while.
-
Sorry, you managed to slip your last post in just before I hit send. I meant the disconnecting the battery method didn't work for me.
-
^^ this method did not work on my 2005 V35.. I am assuming the OP wants to clear the self learn data, which will need consult or a datascan tool (not sure if there is a manual procedure for this?) Doubt you will notice any difference, unless a faulty sensor has been messing up the data previously. maybe removing the battery works for earlier ECUs??

I don't think they are illegal in Qld actually.. I checked it out a little while back.. the rules are weird.. Qld has the normal 'No V8' and 'No turbo' rules, but for others, the limit is 210kW. And since the 350GT produces 206KW, it isn't restricted. However, if you own a restricted vehicle and want to apply for an exception to allow you to drive it on your 'P', then one of the requirements for the exception is a maximum of 125KW/tonne, which the 350GT doesn't pass.. So if they ever do decide to ban it.. you have no chance of getting an exception.. -
There is no bluetooth on the factory stereo.

Cold Cranking Procedure For V36
sonicii replied to The Max's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Agree with the others.. Don't think cold cranking is necessary. Never did this in my old maxima after extended periods of inactivity. Never had any issues with it. It didn't burn any oil and ran great until a broken crank snout shot it dead at 290,000km. -
Contact patch size is direclty related to tyre pressure and weight on the tyre, not tyre width. A narrow tyre will have a narrow but longer contact patch, a wider tyre will have a wider but shorter contact patch, assuming the same pressure and weight. The contact patch area remains the same. There are plently of articles about it.. but a quick search came up with this. http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Tyres-Grip-and-All-That/A_108915/article.html
-
^^ this.. no reason for performance decrese.. just rougher ride, as the lower profile tyres will absorb less.. Although if you run the same tyre pressure, the contact patch size will be the same.. just wider and shorter for wider tyres. Fuel economy may come down to the type of tyre.. maybe also a slight difference in outside diameter??

Fs: 2003 Nissan Skyline 350Gt Coupe - Obsidian Black
sonicii replied to ogz007's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
^^ careful.. the 'for sale thread' nazi, will come an slap you with a ban... -
It isn't just the additional weight to the car overall, it is a rotating mass the engine has to spin. Similar to fitting a lighter flywheel, it is only a tiny difference in overall car weight, but the less mass the engine has to spin, the less power is consumed in doing just that. But as said, I don't know how much you will notice heavier wheels, as they don't spin anywhere near as fast as a flywheel. I would also suggest you ensure you select the correct size tyres so the overall wheel diameter is the same.. otherwise you will have all sorts of issues with your speedo..
