Are the 'ramps' you are talking about the things that look like this < and > either side of the square? What do 1.5 and 1 ways look like? -
Pros And Cons Of Single Turbo Placement
iruvyouskyrine replied to Griffin's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
More than 350kw if you weld an external gate to your turbo housing. You should do that ^ and report back, no one has a solid idea on the limit of the standard manifold. It is generally accepted that its about 350kw absolute max on stock mani with internal wastegate. -
I'm on my mobile at the moment so I can't search but surely it's not the turbo that's the problem? There would be pics of peoples high mount SS2 but I can't find them. It would have to be the manifold I'm sure of it.

Well I purchased it off someone on this forum stating it was for an RB25 and he planned to put a GT3582 on it. I bought it unused, maybe there is a reason it was unused....

Cheap Insterstae Couriers For Car Parts

For reference, brisbane depot to wagga depot (centralish NSW) it was $60 for an RB25 gearbox and they gave me a free pallet to put it on. -
Cheap Insterstae Couriers For Car Parts
iruvyouskyrine replied to danny14's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yes there is a thread somewhere on here about couriers. I used E-GO and it was fantastic service and price. -
Yeah me too for the same reason haha. I was going to do a leak down test but in the end i decided i will take the time to do everything properly and the way i wanted it. Before i wanted to keep it with standard plenum and manifolds with low mount internal gate. But i decided with the height the car sits at and being able to see the roll cage through the rear window, if i get pulled over i will be getting defected anyway, not much i can do to hide it. May as well go and make it an all out track car now and drive it until rego expires or the boys in blue catch up with me haha. I was thinking about it today as well, when i replaced the manifold studs the second time i forgot to hook the wastegate actuator up and i took it for a drive. I was watching all my guages when i went WOT but i saw the boost spike to 2.4 BAR (35psi) and ever since then i have had the overheating issues. Is a single spike like that enough to lift the head? If so it explains a few different things. I am really hoping that the head just got lifted and hasn't warped at all.

Go have a read through the RB30 Dyno Hybrid results mate, a lot of the questions you are asking have been asked before and with a little searching you should have all your asnwers

First Time Engine Build. Rb25/30 Neo Advice
iruvyouskyrine replied to iruvyouskyrine's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
So as long as the cams line up with the TDC marking on the cover and the crank sprocket lines up with the marking on the oil pump then it should be all sweet. And yeah taking the pistons back to below deck height is a good idea, cheers. The grub screw that you block the head with, is it the same blank that you use for blocking the internal VCT oil feed? They look to be about the same size as seen in pictures here http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/389937-so-i-pulled-my-rb25-neo-down-over-the-weekend/ EDIT: Just realised that the restrictors are just plugs and not actual screws, so the head just needs to be tapped and a 6mm grub screw put in. PS i really am just winging it haha, having never taken an engine apart its hard to try and visualise what everything looks like and how it all works when you have never seen it! -

First Time Engine Build. Rb25/30 Neo Advice
iruvyouskyrine replied to iruvyouskyrine's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks for the input guys. I finished cleaning the piston crowns before and i went over the block multiple times with a razor blade to try and get a good seal for the MLS head gasket. Simon you just summed up everything i was going to do in a single post. The only difference is i was going to use a 1.2mm oil restrictor, is this too much? Am i better running the 1.5mm? Today i will be ordering the following items, unless anyone suggests otherwise. - Cometic RB25DET MLS head gasket - ARP RB25 head studs - Gates RB30DET timing belt - Standard NEO water pump The only thing i am slightly unsure about is if the gates belt has the timing marks on it, will this be an issue if it doesn't? To assemble the engine i was just going to set the block to TDC and then do the same with the cams (which is just done by aligning them with the marks on the cam gear backing plate yes?) and sit the head on top and bolt it all together. -

First Time Engine Build. Rb25/30 Neo Advice
iruvyouskyrine replied to iruvyouskyrine's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Just getting around to starting on the block now. Is it beneficial to be cleaning the carbon build up on the top of the piston. I am using steel wool/scotchbrite and very light pressure on a small flat blade to try and scrape it off. Is it worth trying to clean it off as it just wants to fall down in the gap between the piston and the cylinder. I am using a vacuum cleaner and sucking it up regularly trying to stop if from getting in the gap but there is always some getting in there. Will this have any detrimental effects or just get burnt up and sent through the exhaust? -
I would hate to imagine how much everything cost back then haha. An 11 second, 300kw car would have cost small fortune.
-
Yeah i know that that is what made me suspect head gasket in the first place, i just meant no other signs, usually you get the overheating, oil/water mix and bubbling in your cooling system.
-
Should also say that i did do 4 track days with the NEO in and it was amazing to drive. It never missed a beat until i got to Winton for the matsuri this year and it did nothing but overheat. Flushed (forwards and backwards) the engine and radiator, took the thermostat out, front bar off, replaced radiator and nothing could keep it cool. Once it got over 100deg it would just keep going to 120+deg. Cool down laps (fast and slow and varying RPM) spraying water over the intercooler and radiator, pouring water on the radiator. Nothing could bring the temp down except shutting it down and leaving it sit. I pretty much decided i wasn't going to drive 20 hours to not drive so i thrashed it as hard as i could until it started to overheat (maybe 4-5 laps a session) so i can't say it didn't treat me well, i was giving it hell. Not showing any signs of a f**ked headgasket. No oil in water or bubbling radiator, just the low compression. It still idles fine and drives fine, obviously you can feel its substantially down on power but still gets up and goes when it comes onto boost. Anyway, the general plan in RB25/30 NEO, 6BOOST high mount, 45mm Turbosmart gate, Hypergear SS2, Greddy FFP, Xspurt 1000cc, E85.

So no updates in a while. Good news is my compression test was all between 167-170. Bad news is latest test shows 161,155,140,150,144,113. I am suspecting that the head is warped, don't think the headgasket could be that rooted all round could it? Warped head means throw away yeah or is it able to be machined true again and i will just run a slightly thicker headgasket to compensate? Either way bad news. But the good news is that i have 2 RB30 bottom ends sitting in the shed waiting for me to pull the engine out
