  1. Been a loooong time since I posted on SAU, but might be time for a comeback... I copied a guy in the US and made my own with about $80 worth of steel and a couple of nights playing in the garage. very easy to do if you or a mate has a the tools and know how. It uses the hinges that seem to be part of the number plate adapter anyway, so I fold it down when required, and fold it up to hide it when not needed. The through bolt to hold the carrier is in behind the bumper, and i can install and remove it without looking now though you need long arms. If anything it's a decent dis-incentive to people trying to steel the rack in that they can't see how to get to the bolt. Works great, but I only ever carry one heavy MTB... just in case. A few roadies should be fine.
  2. Super, thanks! Yeh these ones are from a 350z I think. Doesn't matter though, they fit right.
  3. Thanks Chris, just to confirm... so solder the green and black to the orange wires of the plug? That was my initial plan, but the pins on the back of the ignitor psyched me out.
  4. Cmon... someone... I wanna dive into this again tonight and get it sorted! I'm sure its a simple answer.
  5. I've fitted them.... kind of! My thread here is where I'm at, need some help to make sure I wire it up right.
  6. Ok, so I've managed to get the old globe out, tweak the locking pin to fit around the HID globe, put the ignitor onto that and attach it to the ballast... but now I'm not 100% sure. So there was a green and black cable running to the light itself, with what looks like the black one having the end cut off and changed to suit a screw in. So, I'm assuming I need cut that end off and change to suit the pin connector as per the first image. Can someone confirm for me? Next question, the plugs that attach to the ballast, where do I need to solder these cables into? I've scoured the net for close up pics of the back of the headlight which I'm sure will answer my question but no luck. Thanks in advance.
  7. They are second hand ones from a G35 and I'm hoping they are the same as Jap spec Will find out on the weekend. Pics are very close up and look the same though. Sellers name is oemxenonparts Then just search for G35 stuff.
  8. I just bought the plug with cable ends, 5000K globes, and the ignitors from a US ebay seller for $150 all inclusive. Its just arrived but I haven't installed yet, thats a weekend job. Hopefully all good. Since its already Xenon (just with a dodgy connection yes?) from what I can read you dont need the other stuff, but in case, rough breadown below: harness with plug: $20 ignitors: $40 globes: $60 combined postage: $30 So for you, $50. But anyone else who only has ballasts left, this is what to expect to buy and how much.
  9. It has taken me a year and a half and I only just discovered the shift light on the weekend. It has always been set at 8000 and therefore has never lit up, so after filling with fuel and resetting my trip, I tried to work out what the 8,000 things was. Messed around and managed to change it to 2000 thinking it was some sort of service interval setting and drove off only to find the light start flashing at 1500 and solid at 2000. It was pretty exciting there for a few minutes, now I've set it back to 6000 and probably wont see it again for 6 months
  10. I get my MTB in every weekend, wheels off, fork first. Also have had a 1.8m gorilla ladder in, and (in a seperate Bunnings trip) 4 sheets of 1800x400 MDF. Personally think that the fold down seat is fantastic, gives a much better opening than you'd expect, or maybe I'm easily pleased after my R33. Only thing that doesn't gel with the 35 boot is an esky. Just not deep enough, and usually needs to be a back seat jobbie.
  11. I've got the USA-Spec adapter and a spec.dock and absolutely love it. Plug the phone in, it brings up the ipod app automatically. You can control from the phone, deck or steering wheel, and when you turn the car off it pauses whatevers playing. I don't have a screen so can't comment on vid integration. Here's my thread on it. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Sp...mp;hl=spec.dock
  12. Sorry I couldn't make it. I'm renovating and had tradies starting today so had to get the pre-work done. Ah well, next time.
  13. I'll be doing what I can to be there. Looking good at this stage!
  14. re the intelligent key... From what I know it was not on any series 2 coupes. However mine and I assume all other series 2's have the rear vision mirror that is used for the intelligent key (the mirror acts as the receiver for the key). When the power is disconnected from the rear vision mirror the car will not start. I can only assume that some/all of the supporting hardware is in place and it therefore could be possible to do a conversion. For actual knowledgeable input, Chris Rogers would be your man. I'm just making assumptions based on my limited experience. Here's a couple of threads... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Ho...;hl=intelligent http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Se...;hl=intelligent
  15. I'm confused, havent you done the iPhone connectivity with HU or SWC already Chris? The only missing link being BT I guess. I control mine via HU, SWC or phone itself. Dock puts it in a good spot for usage and speakerphone calls, and charges, works a charm. I was originally investigating a BT solution but music mutes when i get/make a call and speakerphone works so well it hasnt been necessary. and the coolest thing... when you dock, it will automatically start playing wherever it paused when you pulled it out last. No need to go into the ipod part and press play or anything, it just starts.
