Anyone got or know a good place to pick up a second hand R33 GTR intercooler to use on a GTST? I am thinking that I should go the cheaper route rather than buying a new kit, and use that money towards my exhaust (I want to get the new Hitech system with the split dump pipe, but its a tad pricey ) I assume the stock skyline cooler is not worth anything to anyone?

IS the factory BOV a dog that should be replaced if upping the boost etc? I will be fitting a FMIC soon, and I guess if so I need to look at having a BOV mount plumbed in somewhere? I am thinking about going for the ARE kit (sounds sweet), I guess I would just get the guys to weld in a pickup for it somewhere? Thanks Conrad

HI Steve, i got the rims through Bob Jane Morley in Perth (Brett). They are a Giemax import, and they have a few speccy looking rims that are in 17 * 9. I would put a picture up, but I dont have any... only seen them in the showroom and ordered them (they were decent looking at cheap, and 9 inches wide so it was an easy choice ) I will have them end October (they have to ship them from Japan on the next container from Giemax) if you are still looking and would like to see them on the car. Skyzerr33 - where did you source the second hand intercooler, and how can you make sure its clean etc and not going to cause an issue for your engine (I have heard some nasty stories about secondhand intercoolers, mostly from intercoooler vendors though ) The GTR cooler is a bar and plate unit, what sort of pressure drop does it generate? The boss (my girlfriend) is pretty touchy about spending money on mods as it is, so a cheap but effective option is always a good choice $1500 fitted... hmmm, the Greddy option is $1600 plus freight to WA, and then either fitting cost ( around $150 ish?) or do it myself... pretty close call. Thanks Conrad

Thanks for the responses. I am looking for 180-200Kw at the wheels, which I believe is about the best you can hope for safely with the stock turbo (with the right ecu, ebc, exhaust, intercooler and intake). For this sort of output I would assume I am looking at around 270-280kw at the flywheel? The guys at ARE are providing me some great info, supposedly their tube and fin design in the stage 1 kit is now providing a higher cooling effect than their current bar and plate design (and with considerably less pressure drop) and is rated coservatively to 300Kw, up to around 330Kw is where they would suggest stepping up to their larger intercooler. I am unsure what sort of rating the Greddy has, but its price is certainly interesting. If anyone has any info on the ARE gear I am considering that a serious choice (although its around 2K for a complete kit so little more pricey than the Greddy).

Hi guys, anyone here had any experience with a Greddy Intercooler? The guys at PerfectRun have the kits very cheap compared to say HKS, Apexi or even local kits like ARE or SubZero. For a R33 running a stock turbo ( potentially wil hi-flow it later) and PowerFC with boost controller, exhaust and intake mods whats the pick? I dont want to limit my options too much in the future in terms of of flow rate, and I don't think I will be going the route of new injectors, fel pump and turbo (well if my girlfriend has anything to say on it ) so I think a responsive intercooler will be better than a monstrous power handler that has high pressure drop. Comments?

Thanks for the info guys, I ended finding some cheap 9 inchers, so I have got my 17 * 8s on rht front and 17 * 9s on the rear, and a set of 235/45 and 255/40 P Zero Neros on order I chose the Neros as apparently they give good ride quality and nose levels but still grip like crazy.. the rosso is even more refined, but it just looks boring in my opinion
-
The guys at the tyre place I am dealing with are suggesting the Pirelli P Zero Nero. They reckon its grip is up with the best, but the ride quality is a lot better than most low profile tyres. Anyone had any experience with them? A set for mine will cost about $1800 fitted though.. ouch.

Ex-static, what rims are you running on your R33? No probs fitting the 255s on the back? (are they 9inchers?)
-
I am looking at rims and tyres for my R33, but the guys at Bob Jame tyres suggest that the tyre setup I want (which they recommend as well) of 235/45/17 on the front and 255/40/17 on the back requires 9 inch rims on the rears... this cuts down the rim choices HEAPS. They say the 255 will fit on an 8 inch rim, but is 'pinched' and does not sit well so reduces my traction. The problem is 17 * 8 rims are everywhere and cheap (relatively), 17 * 9 are impossible to get and choice is limited... the only rim I can find is the Enkei RP01 which is fairly basic (I want deepdish dammit!!! ) Any suggestions or comments? What have you guys gone for with rims?
-
I mean in 17 * 9 ... If I go for 17 * 8 there are heaps of rims around, but this guy insists the 255s dont sit well on an 8 inch rim.
-
On a slightly different note, I noticed your AMG rims and wondered are you running 255/40s on the rear like most people? I have been told by a rim place I should run 17 * 9's to fit 255/40s on there and get a good footprint, they dont fit 17* 8 rims properly.. Which is a REAL pain in the A$$, as there are bugger all rims in 19 * 9!!!

If you do and they are interested, the guys who wrote the laptop software for the Apexi PowerFC in New Zealand will code up a software set for the car (and then the rest of us can benefit from it ) The kit is not super cheap, I think its like $300 US but it does give FULL access to ALL the Apexi PowerFC's options and provides detailed datalogging abilities, all via a laptop connection. Perhaps a bunch of Skyline owners could pitch in to buy one kit to program all their cars properly. If you want any more info, check the url: http://www.fc-datalogit.co.nz/fc-datalogit.html

Apexi PowerFC ECU software available in OZ?
slayer replied to slayer's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Well it looks like some people are sick of not having software either... check this link out: http://www.fc-datalogit.co.nz/fc-datalogit.html not listed for the skyline, but its promising! -
I have read numerous mags that say the companion PC software that the Japanese tuners user to set up their PowerFC's is not available in English, or outside Japan. Is this the case? I am reading an English mag called 'Banzai', a performance car mag and they advertise the PowerFC AND the laptop software (and show screenshots of it in English)! Does anyone know any tuners in Australia who have the software running in English? I want to get my car tuned up (in Perth) and would like to have access to all the configuration options this gives me - it HAS to be better than mucking about with the handset!!! Thanks Conrad

Hi JimX, thanks for the update - do you run stock suspension on yours? mine is totally stock at the moment, so trying to get a feel for if I will need to move to better shocks once I have this tyre setup on. Hmm... if theres no probs with the sizes I have picked, now I just have to pick WHAT tyres to use... sheesh! I do like the look of the Falken 451's, if you have any advice on tyres I am listening

Joel, do you ahve the contact details for the 'Jap Point' guy? I cant find him in the yellow pages, I will give him a call and see what his prices are like. Thanks Conrad

HI guys, great forums here! I have just bought a '93 R33 GTS-T, and want to replace the skinny stock tyres on it with some decent rubber. I am considering 235/45 on 17s at the front (on 8" rims), and 255/40 on 17s at the rear (on 9" rims). My two biggest concerns are that if I go with the general consensus and 235/45/R17 on the front and 255/40/R17 on the rear I will A) get a pretty harsh ride and B) Get into grief trying to do a hard launch or powerslide with 'diff bounce' (not the right term, but all I can think of now). At the moment the stock tyres allow me to do fantastic, smooth powerslides and launches without the wheels bouncing up and down like crazy and costing me time (and perhaps killing the diff)... what is the likelehood of having that problem with 255/40's on the rear? If it occurs, do I need to go to a higher profile/skinnier tyre to avoid it, or buy better shocks, or is it as the guys at BobJane suggested down the the choice of tyre (not size)? What do the drifters use on these things, these sort of tyre setup? I dont plan to drift, but certainly want to be able to step it sideways or do a serious launch. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Conrad
