I just took my boost restrictor off! WOW!!!
Elithrar replied to justinfox's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Oh, and they also sell Turbosmart boost controllers; you may want to invest in one to save your turbos if the boost level decides to bump itself up with more mods. -

ANyone selling a lit up blue 60mm boost gauge?
Elithrar replied to 25GTT's topic in Western Australia
Go to XSpeed and get yourself one of the new APEXi EL2 gauges. $236. The white ones light up blue. http://xspeed.dreamhost.com/catalog/produc...&products_id=30 -

Cutom 3" Exhaust vs Stainless Brand name

If noise is a real issue for you, silencers are available for N1's. From my limited knowledge, they barely limit the flow whilst clamping down on the noise. -
Would a custom manifold be required to mount a GTSS on a RB20DET?
-
I'll most likely run upped-boost for a time until I can afford a new turbo. The HKS GT-SS seems pretty suitable; fast spooling, but with solid performance too. Not sure whether that would bolt on; if not, how much would it cost to get a manifold constructed and the turbo fitted?
-
From what I know, RB20DET AFM's are 80mm and plug straight in.

Thanks for info there Roy. Reliability issues were my major gripe; I don't exactly want to have something 'break' at a time when I've just spent some money on another mod (for example, that is). 11-13psi (.75-.89 bar) sounds quite good on the stock turbo (stock is .6 bar, right?); I'd aim for a turbo upgrade somewhere along the track, but power isn't my first priority (say, 180-200rwkW) -- just a decent track weapon that can do well in drags. How much is an ECU remap?

For $1200, you should be able to buy a brand-name exhaust such as an APEXi (N1) or a HKS stainless cat-back system (inc. fitting). APEXi also makes a titanium cat-back system; its major benefit is reduced weight ($1400 inc. fitting). Coupled with a good quality high-flow cat (say, $300?), you should receive quite a substantial boost throughout the rev range, and you will find that the car performs better both on- and off-boost. Also, look at getting a 'pod' filter; cheap ones (still good!) go for around $80 all up, and brand name ones can go from $200 and up (HKS, APEX'i, Blitz). A boost controller may also be a worthwhile investment ($200 for a Turbosmart), as you can increase the boost and therefore the performance of your car. An extra 3-4 psi will give good gains; anymore depends on the engine. Note: The prices above are just rough estimates. Buying it all from the one shop (where possible) might net you a little discount.

Hmm, if I was to upgrade the turbo on an R32 GTS-t; what would be solid solution for a resonable price? I want something that can handle about 1 bar of boost -- I've heard the stock ceramic turbine can have the compressor blades detach from the shaft at such a boost level. Would a T28 (S15 Silvia) provide solid performance throughout the rev-range; and what does the R34 GT-T run? From what I can find out, T28's go for around $1000, so anything under $1500 is suitable, providing it runs on the stock ECU and bolts on cleanly.

Where is the car scene headed
Elithrar replied to BOOSTMEISTER's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I'd love to see a lean towards circuit racing; if it is made more accessible, then hopefully it will persuade people to use the track for high-speed corners, and not the road (ala Mines_Datsun). -
Either: Integra Vti-R. Civic. Focus Put a nice exhaust on them to extract a sweet note, and a pod for better low-down urge, and you'll have yourself a nice little sleeper.

I Smashed My Gtr Real Bad.
Elithrar replied to MINES_DATSUN's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Mines, you are one of the most ignorant people I have ever met. You'd think that crashing a GT-R would teach you a lesson (not to speed, to not think you're invincible), but it seems it hasn't. Just thinking you can drive better than "...better then all you 20 year olds..." is just the beginning. Seriously, go buy yourself a matchbox car-- just please don't crash that either. -
I've got to agree with you there; quite a few people have told me to buy some sh*tbox car and that'll I'll crash a Skyline. But, like you've said: I'd treat a sh*tbox like sh*t. With a Skyline, I'd treat it like a god. Unfortunately, people don't see that and just think: 16yo + Skyline = crash. Which, I suppose (sadly enough) is resonable considering the idiots on the roads now-days. -------------- And, seriously, this thread is pure gold. I was at Motorvation (Sunday the 18th), and the commentators were trying to see who had the loudest fans - there were shouts of "Holden".. "Ford" ... "Holden" etc.. until there was a slight lull in the audience. Some quick-witted bogan promptly yelled out "F*ck the Ford fans." Damn that was funny.

Focus ST170. Nice looking car; relatively quick, solid handling (FWD), and moddable

It really is a sad thing when people overestimate their driving ability and smash up great cars. Myself, I'd never touch a GT-R until I was off my P's for at least a couple of years; I'd never trust myself in it. Unfortunately, it seems that this guy isn't going to learn from this, and will probably just end up in a slightly less powerful car, but then proceed to go faster in it and end up not only injuring himself, but someone else. F*ck, and if he is berating people for driving 'slow' GTSt's; then I'll ram a bus stop pole where the sun doesn't shine. -

Yeah, the sound of that wastegate is insane. Was a good day; that R33 GT-R thrashed the others in the Go-to-Whoa and the Slalom.
-
I think XSpeed has a few Nismo badges and such. I've got to agree; GT-R bodykits are fine -- I'm getting a GT-R grill for my GTS-t ($150 from UAS), but putting badges on a car to imitate a superior product is a big no-no. Just like the Renault Clio I saw with a huge GT-R badge
-
I'm going to be importing an R32 GTS-t soon, as I get my L's in July. My dad too pulls in the 'dosh', but at least I'm paying for insurance. 3rd party too, so I'm definitely going to be extra cautious. I'll keep the speed for the track One of the advantages of having a Skyline for a first car is that they are known for handling well, but if you start to speed, there is a high chance that you're going to crash with the level of experience you have. Just try and keep your head beneath the clouds, and don't think that you're invincible.

I'm going Sunday. Just want to see Ant's GT-R upclose -- otherwise, there's too many trevs there.

Weird things you skyline does
Elithrar replied to druzilla32's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
If this hasn't been said before, a known way to fix the Climate Control's LCD is to have it removed and the connections resoldered. I think that after some time, the wires begin to corrode (condensation) and that is why a majority of R32's have this problem. -
Sorry to hear about the crash there; at least your still here tell us your story. Civics aren't too bad; one of the 1993 two-door hatches can look sweet lowered on white rims (always with the white rims) and with an understated bodykit. Buddy Club P1's or Enkei Tarmac Evo's (17") would look great.

Oh, and I know the general parts needed to comply, but I am referring to the R32 specifically.
