Yuki Izumida of D1 fame and his close friend Kazumasa Yakushi ( known for his skills at drifting Toyota MR2's) will be in NSW from 11th of January 2015 till the 16th of January 2015 to attend the MR2 Trackday Challenge with a (possible)Grip and Slide day. Both events at Wakefield Park. As the organiser of the MR2 Trackday (and yes its more than MR2) I have managed to organise these two drift pilots from Japan to fly over to have some fun. I have decided to offer to subsidise their trip so they could attend. I have also allocated a few sessions over the two day event for drift sessions. Turns out Izumida has been to Australia on a few occasions so some people will know him. I would like to know if there are people out there who would like to offer these guys a car, a passenger run or some interested in some driving tips for a few sessions at this event. I would like to offer a deal to enter the two day trackday for the drift and some grip sessions will be $150. Accommodation, garage, bbq is an extra. As I am looking closely into a third day for grip and slide anyone interested in joining please let me know so I can make sure this is viable trackday. Cost per entry will be around $200 for 30 cars. Wakefield 9pm-4pm.

Nissan@ Lemans 2012
gtstcruiser67 replied to gtstcruiser67's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Its true you will have trouble if you are the public but if you provide a decent business presentation to an engine supplier, you could end up with the right engine. If a guy running in supersprints and hillclimbs can run a E503(toyota motorsport engine) Im sure if someone wanted to, they could contact Nissan for their respective motorsport program. -
Wagga Wagga Race Track Proposal
gtstcruiser67 replied to Althotas's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Signed. It was sad to see Oran Park go but far more annoying not to see a replacement. From what I understand, V8SC is behind the project and it all but a done deal. -
http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/07/nissan-power-dominates-lmp2-category-in-endurance-racing/ Nissan really are supporting motorsport more than most other manufacturers around the globe. Im suprised that no time attack team has fitted one of these units into a car. Light, powerful and a hell of a sound.

Im plan on making at least one round but still have a few things to sort out before I race. I ran at the SuperTruck round at Winton last year, managing 2nd for the weekend. All good but broke the engine so its been back in rebuild mode since.. There were two at SL. This is mine
-
No worries mate, Funny enough, I dont run a Skyline nowdays but a SW20 competed at WTAC 2010. It now has a new engine and gearbox, suspension, data logger and a whole heap of other bits. Im planning on running in the Winton 300 with the MR2 so as for a Supra, we are in the same garage so to speak. There are a few guy's running the Supra who should be easy enough to contact to provide a guide line for set up. Which one is it? Do you have a build thread on it? Best to sort out bigger fuel capacity and solid brake setup first. Here a some pic's from the 300

Good question, The biggest issue with the enduro is the logistics of the race. With a sprint round you can show up with yourself and one other and go racing(to a degree). With the enduro there is a lot more momentum required to do the event. The race does not start that weekend but weeks or months in advance in some cases. A friend of mine runs the RX7 S6 V8 who spends a vast amount of time with prep of the team before the event. He also has a 4 crew members and co-driver. There is a lot involved in making the weekende run smoothly but this takes plenty of prep. With the GTR which competes in the race, they would spend 300+hrs( a guess) in prep as they are a high end outfit in club racing. By the way, they have an excellent prepeared car with solid performance but have been tested with all the expected tests of a w300 race winning car. Their day is just around the corner make no doubt about it. One thing they do need is the support of all Skyline owners at the race, so please make the effort to support one of the best R32's in NSW battle it out to win the best enduro for club racing on the East coast. With a lower class car there is less work required as its a lower spec power/performance ratio but with the division1/2 cars, a lot more prep is involved as your aiming at a top 5 finish which is now, quite a challenge. The reason the division 3/4/5 require less prep is they are closer to showroom cars or are infact showroom cars with minor mods. This allows more time for co-ordinating a team to support the said car for the weekend. You will need a team manager. No driver can be a team manager as it does not work. So you need to dedicate this to a member who fits the bill. On race week the drivers need to work on car set up not running the team, strategies, fuel, food etc. They need to focus on PR,car setup, motivating the team. As for the team, they need to bring something to the plate to help with their motivation. I have done this myself and it does work. This is normally time dedicated to car prep in one way or another but IT prep is also another point. If you run a data logger you will find a IT person who will make sense of the info. This also motivates the drivers, team manager and crew to a common goal hence the term " momentum". The RX7 owner has used this to good effect with a win in 2011 and 4th in 2012. To answer your questions on suspension setup, it could cost as much as the race itself in prepping the car to suit. Best thing to do would be to contact a few of the existing owners of skylines for feedback on how to set up the car. Chances are, they may come along to help out with your campain. Two sets of tyres, one for practice and qually and one for the race will be enough. See Greg Nolan to heat treat the tyre right which will see you though. Run Mich 18/290/68they are affordable, durable and quick. If its a hot race you will need water, if its a wet race you will not. A radio is a big help. Highly recommended . Sort accomodation well in advance as its a busy weekend for the 300. The more prep on the car before the race weekend will reduce time wasted on race weekend. Cooling and managing heat sink is critical. Brakes, gearbox, engine, gearbox. This can be driving to suit what you have to work with to adding parts to increase your threshhold of heat sink. Dont use rose joints. If you do, improve support around the critical points or it may break. Driver: improve cooling for the driver, naca ducts, heat shrouds, correct diet leading to the weekend, hydrated team befor eth event. A TV helps with pit stops so you lose the minimum amount of time. Hope that helps!

Cost was $1500 all inclusive for the weekend. Car,fuel, new tyres, use of Wakefield workshop, entry and crew on hand when required. As for damage, we didnt get that far but Im sure we would have worked out a solution if there was an accident . Its a great way to test the waters if thats your gig. Refuel is 5 min minimum but that pit stop is the quickest 5 minutes of your life. Some are ready and waiting for the time to pass but Im sure they spend a lot of time in prep for this plus they are waiting for no more than one minute. You wouldnt be too effected buy a two stop in a wet race as plenty come off the track and require a tow, cars expire so you pit on the safety car and still in with a shot. There are no restrictions on fuel tank sizes so you can add a tank to make it a one stop and add some flexibility into the strategy of your race. Refuelling systems are available on the Wakefield website. Im building a system in the near future to move away from the pump system. Will display when completed. Will sort out the pic's of race soon.

Very dissapointing to see the GTR drop out. He was very quick and could have won if not for yet another gremlin stopping his charge. Hopefully next year he will finish the race. If so he will be a top three finish. I bought a drive with Tampered Motorsport. They offer arrive and drive packages for the various AASA races. They do have a tuned GTST available for people interested in getting out there. Its a mid field car so you will be very busy. Here are a few words from my seat in the Wakefield 300: The 300 was a very wet race with some very quick cars and little visibility. The car I ran (MX5) was set up for dry weather with dry weather semi's so with extreme flooding only a few km from the race it was a very difficult car to drive. It was the best fun I have ever had driving. Aquaplaning through the kink until the road finds the tyres then powersliding through turn one 67 times in a row was a blast. Highly recommend it to people who want to get out there and race for a small investment. The car was mid field so there was plenty of passing, door to door racing, super quick cars appearing from nowhere in the rain mist, covered in mud from excusions in to the mud and gravel traps.I managed 4 separate 360's where I didnt stop but managed to keep the car in going in the right direction and three trips into the gravel trap without getting trapped in the gravel trap. It's never great to come off the track, but with half the field doing the same it wasnt that big of a deal. Best thing was no major accidents for anyone in the race. Race is televised on MAy 20 on Speedweek Here are some pics: http://www.facebook....3&type=1&ref=nf http://www.facebook....3&type=1&ref=nf Cheers

S A U N S W - Wakefield Trackday, Number 3 For 2011
gtstcruiser67 replied to N1GTR's topic in Events Archive
I dont have my r33 anymore but happy to bring my MR2 if its ready. Will know in a few weeks. -
Thanks for putting that into perspective BB. I may be at Circuit club/Wakefield this weekend having a run and taking my GF for a few laps. Come and say hello if you are around.
-
Thanks mate, they are a great little car to tune and drive. The car ran 1.49 last year with plenty of issues which have since been sorted out as well as a few upgrades so a 1.46 is a pretty realistic time for myself as the car will no doubt be quicker with a gun driver behind the wheel.
-
It really did make a difference sorting the brakes but as you know, sorting cars out never ends. As for Superlap it all depends on have the application sent in as quick as possible as it will be heavily subscribed. One thing for sure the car will be quicker than last year but really only interested in having a good time more so than winning as I simply dont have the budget to compete with the tuner shops, doctors and the likes. The chassis and braking are very close to where it needs to be. The suspension is good but not there and the power is 10k away from a serious set up. Cooling, fuel delivery system, ECU, plenum are all good, the transmission is great as is the diff(excellent). An aero package on my car will also have to wait but there is another MR2 running who will have a very trick aero kit, gun driver and big power which will raise some eyebrows. They are a great little car and very quick when rubbed the right way but... unforgiving if you lift off when on the limit. If I can manage a 1.46 I will be very happy but the other one will be into the high 30's. Will you be running in Superlap?

Mra Second Round April 10
gtstcruiser67 replied to evil_weevil's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Im keen, Im either working on the RX7 V8 or running my car -
Figured I better provide an update on the MR2. After Superlap a few problems were found which had to be addressed before going to the track again. These included a broken rear toe adjustment link which was causing the car to shift all over the place at any given time. This has now been fixed. There was a gear selection problem so the box has been rebuilt with a new KAZZ 1.5 way/ 80% preloaded LSD installed while the box was out of the car. The CV joints were stuffed, so these have been rebuilt with a new set of CroMo units ready incase there is a problem with the reconditioned units. The most important issue was the brake bias as it was almost all to the rear of the car causing havoc at every opportunity. This too has been resolved. After the track day at Wakefield last week I left the track with a huge smile with the braking system on the car. Once these critical issues were resolved I have been focused on more improvments to smooth out the handling of the MR2. ATM is really is coming together with a few more pieces in the puzzle to be completed in March. What has been done since Superlap are the following: Rear camber units were fabricated and fitted to allow exact setting for rear camber as this was not possible. Infact it is probably on one a handful in the world with this option. Fully adjustable CroMo lower control arm links complete the rear adjustment package. The front end has received new CroMo toe links to reduce bump steer. After driving with these fitted it really has transformed the handing on the car. Its not twitchy on turn in or mid corner which is a welcome relief. The plan for March is to fit the new Adaptronic ECU, the injectors, finish the plenum and fit, replace the 65mm restrictor on the exhaust and get a tune. Also fitting a surge tank and fuel drain line to take advantage of fuel management. As for another drive, the ARDC Practice day in March is looking good. Cheers

I will be there competing in Super TT and helping out in the pits for a friend running in the W300. We are in the first garage up pit lane. He has a red RX7 FD V8, I have a SW20 Turbo. The W300 is over subscribed and the support classes are very strong too. Looks like one of the biggest events this year at Wakefield This is my car taken the other day http://www.youtube.com/user/SKR1967?featur...u/0/ZNLuYKpinSw The RX7. It is touch and go if it can make it. http://www.youtube.com/user/SKR1967?featur...u/1/BL1881ttOlg

Should A 300km Per Hour
gtstcruiser67 replied to R32 Stuart's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Just breezed through the thread on this debate trying to work out the point of it. First: I dont understand why people label a race car against a street car. And why a race car is expected to be much quicker than a street car. Second: Race cars/logged cars are not logged because they are super quick. They are logged based on safety requirements then by which class you wish to run. I built a car which is basically only able to run in Production Sports 2A, AASA, Irace and a few other things. The car is not superquick only runs Semi's due to mechanical restraints but it has all the nessesary safety requirements for fire, brake failure , accidents and whatever else. Third: Circuit racing does have a element of danger but I think Superspints are more dangerous due to the format. ITs basically a qualifying shootout on cold tyres which increases the risk of accident. As for Tarmac events, hillclimbs, these can be lethal. Note: The Euro world champ was killed earlier this year on a hillclimb event. So if the question is should cars have a cage? Personally its your choice but dont dis people for choicing the safer path if thats their choice. Should a car that can do 300kmh be allowed to race or compete in supersprints? Of course, they do now. Go to the historic meet at PI in MArch for an eye opener. The Lemans sports cars are doing 200mph on the straight, the F5000 are doing over 200mph in a aluminium can driven by businessmen, the CanAm cars are just as quick, lapping at V8SC times by 60yr old men. CanAm cars are aluminium cans with 600-900hp V8's in the back. Madman making a choice http://www.youtube.com/user/SKR1967?featur...3/3/sYaoAyiGkHU Thats my site where you will find more footage from these and other events. One more point. As the Qld guy stated, they have an excellent train program up there which we can only dream about. This also highlights an important fact, training and driver education. -
I put together a video from 2005 of the GTR festival which was organised by Powerplay Imports. The incar is from the mechanics(Robert Fields) DR30. It was one of the first times the R32 of Mark Skaife/Jim Richards back on track. There were many rare GTR's as well as Slivia's,GTST's and more. So yesterday I found the clip and decided to load it to my youtube channel for people to enjoy. There is also another short movie from another one of their days at Wakefield Park on the channel. Cheers Enjoy http://www.youtube.com/user/SKR1967?featur...u/1/N4Aj0DWiae0

Australian Gt Championship
gtstcruiser67 replied to evil_weevil's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
The cage in the GT40 is a piece of art. Very impressive car but the sound is even better! I managed to be there for the 1 hr AGT race which finished on dusk. What a sight watch the brakes glow. Good driving too with no accidents. The GTR must have been experiencing brakes issues as he was very early under brakes and they lit up like a candle but he did come back in the last 15 mins to pressure the Corvettes, almost taking another position into the last corner on the last lap but missed the opportunity as the corvette does have more legs than the GTR. Infact the Corvette was very quick in a straight line. Todays race is on at 2.15 so will battle this hangover to be there! -
Australian Gt Championship

I will be there with a few friends. May just sit in the grandstand instead of slidin around the hills -
I managed a shot at the underside of the Cyber EVO on the Saturday night. Basically the diffuser starts at the drivers feet then runs all the way to the rear of the car. ITs all rose jointed but I dont know if the linkage system has been upgraded as I dont know what they had orginally. The owner did say the car is 8yrs old with a dry weight of 1120kg if I remember right. It is 150mm from the underside of the car with 100mm+ of underbody work. Its looks almost basic in comparisonto the Sierra Sierra EVO but cleary a well developed car.
