At least OneHD will televise the LM24hr. There are a few GT1's in the event.I was there in 2004 when Brabham was running around in a V10 LMP1. That is a must see event. Do GT1 have a round in Malaysia or the likes? That would be a weekend trip for Aussies! On the subject of GT1, there is interest for the series to come to Australia with EC showing interest but nothing coming of the bid. The other dark horse to hold a GT1 race is 'Hampton Downs' in North Island, NZ. Most people would know about this track with the Bruce McClaren Festival held there earlier this year. Quite a impressive track.

Cool! Hey they are fantastic rims. Very happy with the rim. They work very well with the rotors and RCA's. Better than the Sparco's, plus there lighter. As for Superlap, be great to see you. Cheers

Nasty Mini Crash At The Supertaxis Today
gtstcruiser67 replied to Duncan's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
The gravel traps did very little to slow down the cars. They have to absorb the energy but sand isnt really going to do that. I dont prefess to know a lot about the science of tracks and safety but more could be done there. As for the second accident, I would have to say the HANS device would have saved her life. That was a big hit which would break a neck quite easily. I think the mini is more the problem. Sure they are a great little car but they are a brick and thats what happens to bricks when you throw them.. -
Nasty Mini Crash At The Supertaxis Today
gtstcruiser67 replied to Duncan's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Deeper sand traps filled with 10-20mm pebbles would have slowed the car down far more than dirt or sand. Also the tyres were not tied down and there were not rows tyre barriers at the end of that straight to eliminate this from happening. As usual in hindsight it was avoidable but lessons will be learnt and more progress made in safer facilities. The series is really is bad publicity for the sport as they are cheque book racers who are happy to crash and bash their way around the track. I have been to many many events over the years with club racing providing clean safe racing with minimal accidents. These show pony events encourage 'spills and thrills' racing which encourages aggressive/dangerous driving which is not what it is really all about. Certainly not for the majority of racers out there. -
Thanks, Looks like I have posted the thread twice. Not sure what happened there but will sort it out. It has been a fantastic experience building the car and now look forward to driving it. Superlap is its first competitive outing followed by plenty of track days with friends having fun. The car will also see a few rounds of irace this year and perhaps the Wakefield 300. Not really looking forward to removing the engine/box but has to be done for the next stage. The optimum power for me will be 280kwatw. The most effective and reliable is more around the 240kw. Optimum weight is as little as possible! Under 1000kg is quite acheivable but weight balance is the bigger issue. If I can get it to 55%-45% front to rear with the as much weight as low possible. The clutch, pulleys, alternator will help move very close to the optimum weight. The car will be at Powerplay Imports next week for undertray and a few other things. Hey GTS4WD, we met a few years ago at Bathurst at the back of the new pit area. Hope you finished all the work you were planning on the car.

17" Sparco Rims To Go
gtstcruiser67 replied to gtstcruiser67's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
The offsets are : Front 38mm Rear 32mm Cheers -
My R33 was sold a few years ago with no car to replace it. As I didnt want another fast street car due to lack of self control...So I built a ST162 which saw one track day at Powerplay's last track day in 2008. It was a stripped out, seam welded fun car that suprised most people as it had 100hp and capable of 1.14 first time out. The plan was to upgrade with a 3SGTE but after doing the figures it wasnt really where I wanted to go as I always liked the MR2, then one became available at Autostyle. After some negotiation with the guys at Autostyle, I became the owner of a 1998 Sw20 for track use only. I checked the car over then decided to do a few mod's but this became more than a few mod's. It became a very highly modded track car. The goal is to log as a 2A Marque sports car. All the safety standards are very high, mods are within the reg's with a inspection by a CAMS scrutineer to confirm if all is above board. I spent 12mths building the car to a level to get on the track and get started then develop the car more as time goes by. Its that little 'I can make it better' syndrome most of us suffer who are into cars. . What I have now is stage one with more to come in due course. Handing: A few friends others helped a lot regarding the set up(fabrication, roll centre modifications) for the car which I took on board. This included the lowering of the rollcetre with adjustment plates on the ball joint(32mm), lowering the rear toe adjustment links then fitting AE86 toe links( with persausion..),lowering the steering tie rods, the caster links have also been lowered. The RCA's also have a camber adjustment which sets the camber at about 2.5-2.7. All urethene or rose joint llinks throughout the car. Suspension is Tein coilovers with 8kg(Tein) rear and 7.5kg(Eibach) up front. Sway bars are 22mm front and rear.TRD I think.. The Chassis: Seam welded front and rear strut towers, all front and rear internal panels, structual panels, windscreen frame, door frames, rear window and other bits and pieces. Installed a 10 point bonded CDS CAMS spec rollcage which starts at the the front strut tower and finished at the rear. Weight reduction: Every bolt was cut back, doors cut to shreads, deadner removed, second rear firewall removed, steering column replaced with toyota echo column to save 5+kg,lexan windows, all unnessessary fittings removed, rewire. Thankyou to Alister at Powerplay for the rewire! Great guy, good friend. So I went a little crazy but had a great time in the process. Other Mods: Improved radiator air flow with ducting Relocated the IC to above the engine Relocated the air intake to the top of the engine bay Oil cooler Apexi AVCR Internal door handle is now stainless steel wire cable pull system Rear wing mounted through to the chassis rails Incar camera for rear view Reloacted lights to the front bar Pumped gaurds(IT came with this) And the list does on.. The weight is close to 1050kg or less. I will weigh the car soon enough but based on the log I have this is a pretty close estimate. The engine has a few little mods which help but I have yet ot see its potential due to a problem we created with the rewire. Should be fixed soon. Paint: I found the colour scheme on a F430 that runs on ALMS. We masked and painted it in two pac one sunday. Brakes: 330x35 front(Alcon 'C' spec calipers), 300x35(wilwood superlites), Tilton series 600 triple floor mounted pedal box with dual master cylinders, cable operated adjustable brake bias. Braided lines throughout. Drivetrain to be done: Just purchased a AP 7.25 twin plate carbon clutch with light weight flywheel. Total weight 4.5kg Relocation of alternator to the front of the engine.weight saving 6-8kg Alloy pulleys for alternator and crank. The future plans: Fuel system will updated soon More weight reduction More weight reduction! Additional bracing to the front and rear chassis rails. Diff and the typical engine mods to see 200-240kw at the wheels The car will be at superlap this year and the car will hopefully be reliable and holds it manners and not eject me into the sand too often. It is loud in car and quiet outside and total blast to drive Here are the pic's

Im selling the Sparco rims currently on my MR2 as they do not suit the new upgrades. These were originally fitted to a R33 GTST. I do like the rims but they just do not work with the new brakes. Also have a set of spacers (10mm) and wheel nuts which I will throw in. They do not come with tyres. No tyres 17/8 17/9 $700

I did own a R33 GTST a few years ago which has since been sold. A few years ago I decided to build a deicated track car to have some fun with. Just found thread on cheap builds. I sold my R33 some time ago and ended up with a Toyota's of late Thought this may help a little. I have just about finished building a MR2 which I did get a bit carried away with but I kept the budget within reason. The build has cost $7500 to date not including the car. The car was $7500. I was going to buy some one elses car but you can easily buy someone elses trouble which is why I built my own. Plus I always wanted to try this journey which I highly recommend. Allow 300+hrs to build it 200hrs mental prep and research. I will be registering the car for Production Sports and/or Sports sedans. The car will be run with irace series which has TV coverage which is advantagous for tax deductions. Also a few other events including reglarity events, supersprints and track days with friends. One of the first things I will do will be a day with a profession driver trainer who can help with set up and driver education. This will save $000's of me trying to bumble through what is the right set up when I am a complete novice at track work guessing my way through $$$. Here is the car and a link to the build http://s707.photobucket.com/albums/ww76/b24nsw/

There are no timed fuel/pit stops this year due to a regulation change. If you have a dry break system you can refuel at your garage. If you do not have dry break you must refuel in the dummy grid. As far as the daewoo goes, I expect they will be close to $900 for the weekend with the best person to talk to being Adam Ronke at Winton as he is organising the lease options. He has tuned the cars since you have driven the Daewoo with a reasonable performance gain so they should go OK.

Just to clear a few things up, the Wakefield Park 300 is a enduro race held on the 29th of November. Cost is $600 per team A minimum one pit stop with no set time. Only one car per team can enter with up to four drivers. Most run two or three drivers depending. Fuel stops are carried out in the dummy grid unless you have dry brake systems which then allows for refuel at your pit garage. The car can be kept running to accomodate turbo cars with a requirement of having two fire mashals on hand. Either CAMs, iRace or ASSA car can enter. Licence can be CAMS or ASSA. This is open class racing with classes based on times as opposed to classes to eliminate the hassle of parity etc. Adam Ronke has a three care team competing which includes a R33 GTST which has been built specifically for these kind of events. Two SW20 Mr2's will be entered, EVO's, MX5turbo's and NA's, a 300hp Pug, commadores, and more. the regs are evpected this week so get you entry in ASAP as it looks like it will be a full field.

What Class For A R33 Gtst?
gtstcruiser67 replied to BOZ22N's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Production Sports cars/Marque Sports It has a power to weight formula which evens things out. There are four levels so you have a choice of tune. Im not 100% if they are on the list but when talking with the race secretary in 2004 he stated they are allowed to run. -
I was referring to the camry comment, not the GTR. I well aware of what can and cannot run at Bathurst 12hr/Production car series. You can run R33/R34 skylines in Production Sports. I had a conversation with the president of Production sports a few years ago when I was toying with the idea of building one for racing. Instead of the R33 Im building a MR2 turbo atm to run in Production Sports which will be an experience.I dont expect to all that competitive but gives a me a chance to run with a great class of cars and have some fun. Its also aimed at the W300 for next year. I heard a rumour there may be a 300km race at EC on the same format as the W300 for next year. If I hear more on it I will let you know. Cheers

The Wakefield 300 turned out to be a great race. I managed some footage which is available on my youtube site. The link is http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=CViGljv2H1k It would have been great to see a gtr, silvia, subaru, evo and mr2 battling it out with the top teams over the weekend MAybe next year.. We will have a dedicated site up and runnig inthe near future for those interested in being involved at any level in Australia's only 300km enduro for everyone cheers Steve

Yes leasing is a great option. Im looking into a future racer for the weekend. Its $4000 for the weekend for the car,pit crew and team manager. With 3 drivers it works out OK. Even with two its ok based on the fact you arrive and drive. No set ups, endless hours prepping the car, towing it to the track, pit crew plus plenty more. I show up, jump in a car with a pit crew ready including team manager and go racing. Anyone seriously interested in joining in??

Thanks Duncan. It shaping up for a great weekend. My MR2 is in pieces and will not be ready till later this year so Im leasing a drive for the race. We are planning a 300km race for Eastern Creek next year so you wont have to wait till November for a 300km enduro. We were also looking at Winton but its very hard to organise as the track is already booked out for next year. Good luck with the build up and hope to see it on the track soon. Cheers Steve

Just an update on the reg's for the event. A few RX7 owners who have driven at the 'Ring 24hr' expressed interest in the race but due to the pit stop reg's, they were concerned of destroying the motors as you must turn off the engine to refuel. It was not noted at the Ring 24hr you are able to refuel without a dry brake with the engine running as long as you have two fire marshalls on stand by. We have now adjusted our regs inline the with the Ring24hr allowing this rule for the Wakefield300. So you can run you GTR without having to turn off the engine and risk detination during pit stops. We now have a few RX7's running, MX5 (turbo to my knowledge), 6 future racers, 6+production cars,V8 supercars, Super Tourers and more. If you need more info contact Mathew at Wakefield Cheers Steve

Just an update for people interested in the race. It looks like there will be a healthy field of cars running in the event. At least one supercar,a few sportscars,6 future racers, production cars with a few from the 12hr race using it as a test run, saloon cars, mr2's( mine and another turbo spec)and a few others. MX5's will have a sprint race format. Superkarts Superbikes LM proto's will have a run.The mini versions that is.. So is anyone coming down to race??
