yeah but surely with just a slight port and polish just taking the kinks out to make the air flow easier would increase volicty so you would still keep the response up..yes, no??
-
Yeah realise that but with slight port you could get them up to speed surely...?? Can anyone post up links to 24 builds can't seem to find them my eyes must be painted on lol and has anyone on here done a rb24 ? Can you post setups and dyno figures and what kind of response driveability?
-
from what i gathered maybe wrong and talking to people but wouldn't a RB24 bring on a turbo quicker than the 25 if both ran the same turbo? cause of the head isn't that the point of 25 head on a 30 bottom to make it more responsive? cause a 24 for would be forcing a similar amount of exhaust gas out as a 25 but through a smaller port there for increasing the velocity which the exhaust gas comes out...or am i way off? haha couldn't see that happening as from what i've heard Roy's standard 20 can easily keep up with the "big boys" out on the track so much more a 24 could and i'm doing the 24 as a side project as a bit of fun and doing bolt ons for the standard motor i'm putting in atm and i'm not fussed bout 25's lapping me (if they can) it's all for fun and if you don't have fun with it then what's the point of doing it
-
well everyone was bagging the hell out of the 20 cause you cant get decent power with out spending endless amounts of money but it seems the RB24 isn't as bad as everyone seems to think and not as expensive as well considering people have been able to build these for 5-6k and brings on a turbo quicker than a 25
-
just thought i'd throw this in it's got an rb24det in it and there's another rb24 on you tube that made 200kw at 4 psi and 390nM torque on the run in tune on a to4z
-
building any motor up and not driving it on the track would be a total waste of money anyway...you live in adelaide you should know what it's like i baby the hell out of mine and i still manage to get pulled over almost everytime i go out and my 32 isn't even loud let alone thrashing my car and drawing attention to myself...if your just gonna stick to the street then you should just stick with bolt ons or if anybody does build a motor you've got to take it to the docks at the very least
-
well when i spun the bearing in mine it sprayed schrapnel all over so i'm stripping that one right down and doing the 2.4 and in the mean time i bought another engine to slap in and get around in so i'll soon find out what the 2.4 go like
-
i thought the rb24 has a longer stroke than 25 from what i've found and talking to people only going by what i've been told and searched so not sure how true it is may have read wrong...people just say it's a freak motor and it seems that most people say it's got more torque so who knows??? would love to take ride in one
-
yeah just for the two bobs worth no machining required for 25 crank and rods only for the 26 crank and rods...and just side point one guy is running RB24 in s15 and is making 340rwkw at 16 pound apparently it's suppose to have a crap load more torque than the RB25 don't know the details of what he's running but supposedly it's not to laggy but people who have been in it have just said it's a freak motor that just runs really well
-
yeah well i was gonna pull the head off to replace the rings so i was gonna put a metal gasket on anyway so the only thing i was gonna change was put 25 crank and rods while it's apart putting all the new bearings and seals cause there available so i'm not set on wasting my money it's not gonna cost me anymore than if i wasn't...i was just wondering on how easy it is and if i need to modify anything to fit the crank and rods in
-
since you guys talked me out of forging, i'm wondering bout stroking cause i have mate that's got a 25 crank and rods i can use this should stroke it to 2150cc with 20 pistons shouldn't it?? but correct me if i'm wrong cause i'm only going off what people have said and what i've looked up so not completely sure if i heard or read right but doesn't the stock pistons come up 0.4mm past the block and with 25 crank and rods it will push it to 1.4mm past but if i put a tomei or acl 1.4mm metal gasket won't this give me the right clearance with roughly same compression just with bigger cc's?? has anyone done this? is it pretty straight forward easy drop in kind of deal? do i need to modify anything? only spitballing
-
can you tell me where from? was it from a wrecker? which one? please tell me as i need another one for my mates 32
-
i'm in SA and if i could find a 20 for 500 bucks i'll take 6 the cheapest i've ever seen is 1100 and it didn't include turbo or the intake manifold and a few other bits
-
i agree with driftnuttz, i was reading that 260kw thread and i was reading even though it's years ago that most of you guys were making peak power between 5-6000rpm now wouldn't some cams help increase the top end and if you can get the head to flow wouldn't you be able to keep similar response just with more top end?
-
ok so it may of looked like you guys have convinced me i might not go forged internals after all and save the doe for rx-7 instead i'll just run new sump, oil pump, cams, and nice turbo and tune and look more for around 260-270rwkw cheers for all the advice plus i've got a supercharged stato that's in need of some work to be done as well hey anyone know what those GTX3071 are like on a 20? heard they should be decent
-
thanks guys for the feedback but i'm still going a head with what i planned maybe not as far anymore maybe still just keep it a 20 rather than 2.2 cause it seems there a plenty of guys making close to 280 with standard internals but i'll still put a set of forged rod's and pistons for that added piece of mind and go from there...looks like tdo6l2 is the way from what i've heard from you guys and what i've found from other forums...can any one tell me when full boost will hit on the 20? and is l2 version actually more responsive or is it just really a gimick?
-
nope not worried i realise it's gonna be laggy, if i could get full boost by 4-4500 i'd be cheering, anyone else got any ideas on what turbo?
-
i realise it gonna cost a bit but i do get the benefit of having a father that has built a few motors 600hp+ in the drag scene and can get some machining done cheaper at mates rates yeah i just put to4 cause that's what popped into my head first i'm just planning and just want some ideas
-
yeah i realise it won't be cheap but could this setup make that sort of power
-
or maybe rb25neo high flow turbo cause have been told they can flow them up to 450hp by hypergear don't know if it's true or not but that would be better as i already have a standard 25 neo trubo
-
ok so i've spun a big end bearing on my RB20DET so it's time for rebuild i'm wanting to get a bulletproof 280rwkw that i can go bash on the limiter all day at the track and i want some opinions on what sort of setup would be best so far i'm thinking bore and hone the block, port the head, run hks 264/9 cams and gears, run wallbro intake pump, gtr injectors, t04 or eqiualent, nistune, forged rods and pistons, acl race bearings, and metal gasket with a hell of a lot of boost am i heading on the right track?? or can someone help point me in the right direction got a pretty good understanding of engines and i will be assembling it myself opinions on turbo? cams? someone help me out and i know some think i'm wasting my time cause it's just a 20 but i want to do something different
