  1. Box has to come out in order to fix it. Not worth doing anything about it really unless your having trouble keeping it in reverse eg: its popping out or you cant engage it No need to buy a NEW box as such, 90 percent of parts on a gearbox are relatively easily rebuilt. I think car companies presume that a car will go through at least 1 box rebuild in its lifetime so they make it all replaceable. Rebuild should cost you anywhere between 400-900 depending on whats needs replacing. Theyre fairly labour intensive items. Once again the Rb20 box weakness trait raises its ugly head. Good luck Red17
  2. I was just looking at these on Holdens website and the specs are pretty good. 147kw in 1282kg makes for a pretty rapid little car. Not sure how much modifying potential its got but its certainly refreshing to see now that both the blue oval and GM have finally recognised the demand for turbocharged vehicles in Australia. More of it, i say! Red17
  3. Hehehe all class Looks like your so called nos bottle is a drinks cooler, nice one Red17
  4. Selling these because they look a bit odd on my GTR bumper and they get in the way of my frount mount (when i get it! ) Theyre basically two small black round dichroic fog/driving lights. They have 55W globes in them. Supplied with full PIAA wiring harness and relay. Simple to install. Theyre identical to these on Takakaira's site: http://www.takakaira.com/asp/shoppingcart2...t2.asp?id=10455 As the site says, these are $150US new. Im asking just $100AU. Theyre in good condition no cracks in the aluminium casings, the dichroic coating on the lenses is slightly worn (looks like normal ageing), but theyre still put out a super bright yellow light. Wiring harness is in tact with all plugs. I'd prefer Perth buyers because you can inspect them. But im willing to ship anywhere in Oz at buyers expense (I can do post or ansett air freight). Pics to come. Red17
  5. Good idea. Im especially nervous after hearing about the spate of intentional car fires someones been lighting in perth lately. Apparently the suburbs around Carine are most vulnerable. Red17
  6. I get home after a nights watching drift videos at my brothers house and settle in for the evenings read of SAU with a mug of milo. Sounds relaxing huh? Well just as im getting comfortable my alarm goes off. Now my Autowatch NEVER false alarms so instantly im panicking. I run to the bedroom to get the knife, grab the keys on the way and stop the siren for the neighbours sake. Run out the front ready to put some f%&ker in a world of hurt and..... nothing. Not a soul around. So i stand out the front of the house for a good 15 minutes, knife in hand muttering things like "cmon you pricks, come get some!". Neighbours must think im a little crazy. So i check the car over, make sure the doorlocks havent been tampered with etc... All is well, but im still bloody nervous. Now how the hell am I meant to sleep? Red17
  7. These are probably the same people that earnt Fast and the Furious enough cash to make a sequel. Try reading the rollaboyz forum and see how this movie is placed on a pedestal for all car owners to aspire to. Excuse me while i go throw up. Red17 "Worst episode ever"
  8. Yeah Jaycar has better audio gear. Altronics retail is a small part of the overall operation tho, its mostly wholesale. Jaycar dont do professional public address systems, we do. We dont supply much to Jaycar, they source all of their own stuff. Only time they buy off us is when they run out of stock of a common part that we also stock. Their catalogue is alot bigger, but then again Altronics doesnt stock heaps of tacky stuff nobody wants. We pride ourselves on nerdy retail staff. Luckily i work upstairs and as such am not counted as a nerd Red17
  9. Thats some tacho you got there rob. Red17
  10. I just took a look at these on the ROH website, lovely looking rim. Only other one id consider from their range is possibly the Modena which is also in their custom range. They seem to indicate that they can custom make these to suit whatever car, but perhaps they only come in 5 stud and just vary the offset to suit. Red17
  11. There is indeed a time and a place for everything. Id like to say if you need to get it out of your system then go hit the track. But its a bit hard for some of us especially if you arent a member of a club or have a cams licence etc.. So with that in mind i'll say this. If you want to play up, make sure its at a time and place where no ones around, not just for minimizing the chances of getting caught but primarily to reduce the chance of you risking the lives of others. And make sure your in the car alone, don't play up with passengers, it might be cool to show your mates how fast your ride is, but can you live with the guilt of losing them? If anyones head is on the block because of your stupidity, ensure its ONLY yours. I have my time and my place, i suggest you find yours Stay safe! Red17
  12. Sorry, cant beat their deal, but since im the one who decides what goes on special I can try to stick some more automotive kits in there for everyones benefit http://www.altronics.com.au/cat.asp?cat=11...rp=430&id=K4347 Thats the AF meter, works quite well, alot better than the old one which was just a bar graph that went nuts all the time. This one actually gives you a readout. The Voltmeter, Ammeter, Thermometer, Turbo Timer and Battery Protector ARE however on special Ive been trying to get work to remake the kits into a guage style thing, something thats mountable into a round hole, but they seem to think customers wont think its worth the extra cost. 13. Hi all, Just wondering since I got my licence renewal the other day and realised id got 3 points back this year, how many of you out there have a Skyline/fast import and still have all 12 points? Im on 11, but have to wait another 2 years to get my final point back Sensible Red17
  14. Woah, in that case a hundred bucks for the nissan one doesnt look so bad Red17
  15. Im wondering why youd risk having a cheaper possibly crappier belt on your car for something as important as a timing belt? Save 10 dollars or do the job again 6 months later? Then again, im not sure how much timing belts can vary in quality. Red17
  16. As far as i understand it, it involves pumping compressed air into each cylinder at TDC and measuring the amount of air thats bled off as a result of leakage through either piston rings, valves or head gasket. This provides a true full load compression test and can more accurately guage ring wear in particular. Red17
  17. Ken, Sorry ive only done it on 3 sets of calipers which werent on cars at the time, hence me thinking they had to be unbolted, should have thought more before opening my mouth. Your right though, despite it being easy, perhaps its best to have at least someone knowledgeable to help you first time out. Just in case. Red17
  18. Waz, do you have a dump and front pipe on your R32? because if not, do that first. Its easily the most dramatic change in the way your turbo spools up. Efficency is the key and exhaust is where there so much to be gained. Ive got a pretty old HKS EVC and i gotta say i cant feel any difference in when the boost builds up. Perhaps the newer ones are more configurable. Red17
  19. Try coventries. Theyre big enough to usually be able to find what you need. Red17
  20. The four potters on the front are dead easy, unbolt the caliper and pull the 2 retaining pins that go across the back of the caliper out... pads, shims the lot will just fall out. Red17
  21. I bought high quality Philips globes for my Skyline on the weekend, cost me $36 and it came with a free pair of parkers Maintenance costs arent that high but it depends entirely on what sort of fluid's etc you want to run in the car too. Retail price from a workshop for Mobil 1 Tri-Synth 10W/30 is $18 a litre. Mobile 1 Synth Gearbox oil is about $55 for a box full. Redline is even more expensive. Parts wise ive had no problems, even searching for rare interior parts, you can normally find great bargains on this very forum! Theres always someone somewhere wrecking bitz. Even when I stuffed 2 valves I managed to ring nissan up and get new ones ex melbourne off the shelf. Red17
  22. OK, ive read recently that people have had trouble doing this. And in a way its understandable considering the cramped space at the front of a 32. I went through the process this morning and it took me about 45 minutes all up, including going to coventries and buy a pair of new globes. Removing the broken one I had to do this in the dark last night so it was even harder, but it still didnt take long. The main beams are relatively easy, the high beams are not (i wouldnt like to even attempt those in daylight!). If your blown beam is on the battery side you will have to undo the battery clamp on the top (10mm spanner) and push the battery backwards to get yourself a bit of manouvering space. I didnt have to remove my battery to do it. First up remove the locking collar around the back of the light, this should move about a 1/4 of a turn before coming off. Then you will find a rubber seal with the plug in the middle. Now pull the plug off, this is very difficult, 1 of the vertical prongs is bent slightly from the factory to ensure the plug doesnt come off easily (i realised this when i saw the prong on my new globes was also bent). Now you can be fairly brutal trying to get this plug off, the whole globe might move around a bit but thats ok. Push the rubber seal back a bit to see how your progressing, one side will come off easily, but the side with the bent prong might be more difficult. Get yourself a screwdriver if you have to, but be VERY careful you dont break the plug housing. Once the plug is off, remove the rubber surround and you will see the globe and 2 circlip thingy's at the bottom, these need to be squeezed TOGETHER to get them out. The circlip is built into the rear of the globe. If its easier you can get one side out at a time. I found it relatively easy to do (not so much in the dark tho! ) Purchase of Globes Now, go down to your local auto store (in daylight! ) with your blown one preferably and ask for new ones (always replace globes in pairs!). Your looking for a globe like this: http://www.hella.com.au/cgi-bin/catalogue....view&flmaint=18 This is a H1 Xenon which plugs into the housing which has the circlip built into it. You shouldnt have to buy new rear sections unless some nasty metling has occured. I purchased some Philips Blue Vision 55W (Part No: HI 12258 BV(DB)) for $36 from Coventry's. These are a particularly good buy because they include a pair of blue parkers to match. Now be sure to match the wattage to what you currently have installed, if you get more powerful bulbs you run the risk of damaging wiring (and even a risk of electrical fire!). So these blue PIAA bulbs at your local tuning shop may look cool, but be aware of the wattage ratings. Also be aware of cheaper brands which dont last as long and arent as bright. Fitting the new ones This is pretty much the reverse of taking the globes out except its EASIER! No need to fiddle with that circlip, just push it into the housing and it clicks into place. First fit the rubber surround to the rear section of the globe, then plug in your new globe to the top of it. Push it into the headlight housing until it clicks into place and fit the rubber surround up properly. Then whack the locking collar over the plug (IMPORTANT! You dont want to have to take that plug off AGAIN just to fit the locking collar). Stick the plug on and lock the collar! Youre done! Now the passenger side is ALOT easier than the battery side, plenty of room for you guys with big hands. Also if youve only blown one globe, its a good idea not to touch the end of the good globe you have so you can use it as a spare to get you out of trouble when you need it. If you buy the Philips like me, they come in a nice hard plastic case which is good for storage in your glovebox. Hope this helps any of you 32 owners who've had problems in the past. Its a job that any of us are capable of without any special tools required. As for the high beams? Well these look very hard and im yet to have to tackle them. Lets hope I never blow one If ive missed anything then please add where needed. Red17
  23. Mmmmm hangout. Long time since ive been there, need to get fit again before going back or ill struggle to pass the kiddy wall Red17
  24. It's best to get an aftermarket one rather than go down the route of lightening the standard one. I guess theres an inherent risk when lightening and machining that some structural integrity may be lost and possible inconsistencies could lead to failure. And flywheel failure is not a pretty sight or so im told. Red17
