  1. Synergy 8000/BP Ultimate > *.fuel True story.
  2. Hey guys, thanks for the replies. The guy writing the article has told me it's been put on the backburner for the time being, but a couple of you have expressed interest, so I will be letting you know if he informs me it's on again and he needs me to source a participant!
  3. Hey all, I have been approached by someone from the RTA to see if I know anyone who can help them by taking part in a short interview for their magazine Geared. The topic of this article is off-street drags. Seeing as there's quite a few young people here who participate regularly or have participated in the past, I thought I'd mention it. I believe the questions will cover things such as do you enjoy it, what do you get out of it, what kind of car do you drive, what's your best time, etc. etc. It sounds pretty quick and easy. The guy did say it'd be good if the person could have a photo of them with their car. I'm guessing by this he meant if you could take one and supply it to him. He said it's fairly urgent, so if anyone wants to participate please let me know ASAP, and I'll PM you the guy's contact details. Cheers
  4. This is probably a laughable suggestion, really, but it's worth a try if you're really stuck income-wise and can't offload the car - have you considered speaking to your bank and asking them for a two month break on the payments to allow you to recover from this operation? I would imagine (though of course we're talking about a pretty big bunch of pricks here) that if your payment history is excellent and you can get them some paperwork from doctors etc., they might be willing to help you out. If you sell the car in the mean time, sweet, the bank still gets their money, if you don't, you won't have to pay while you're off your feet...
  5. Event selction, Merli style?
  6. Hmmm, to be honest, I don't think you're comparing apples with apples there at all, because watching people go around a track is not all that's on offer on the day in question. This is like a value-added Show and Shine + BBQ, because you'll get to see cars on the track being thrashed. So there's even more entertainment, everyone wins! On top of that, if you're lucky, it will be possible for you to participate in said track activities, so there's the chance the day could be even better still! So where's the problem? :upurs:
  7. Now now Andrew, assuming the SAU Show and Shine was cross-promoted on other forums, this isn't that much different to inviting people to drive an average of say 1.5 hours up to the Central Coast to have the honour of looking at a bunch of Skylines. Sitting still. In a car park. Is it? (EDIT: apparently the S&S wasn't really promoted much elsewhere, so you can obviously disregard the above - still, there's no harm in them letting people know about it, some might want to make the drive if they have nothing better to do on the day, and as said, there is the possibility of participating if not all slots get filled...) Sounds like not only will you get the opportunity to check out some nice cars in static displays, but also to see some cars circulating. If what you're trying to say is that you don't rate rotaries or something, then you could just come out and say it...
  8. Looks interesting... If the beast is presentable I might have to make the trek. Brad will be disappointed if I don't go...
  9. I'll consider both of these options.
  10. As Tosh says, I'm around. Not really keen to thrash the Cosmo on a track at this stage, it's not running 100% yet (and probably won't be until I have time to pull a bunch of stuff off the motor to investigate the vacuum hoses etc. on the twin turbo system) and I want to upgrade the brakes before I get it anywhere near a track, the stock rotors start to warp as soon as you get some heat in to them. Maybe some time in future...
  11. Sorry, only just saw this thread, and can't make Thursdays, I'm afraid...
  12. Ok, definitely in.
  13. What he said!
  14. Well, no doubt at the risk of being called a wanker by some on here, I'd like to point out how stupid knowingly driving around in an unlicensed vehicle is - the inconvenience you saved yourself by driving your mate's car could have been well and truly offset by the massive problems you'd have encountered, if say, for example, you hit a pedestrian. You wouldn't have been insured for the injuries inflicted upon that person, and in order for them to be compensated (assuming they survived of course) they'd need to sue you, and you'd probably lose everything you own. Something to think about. Public transport's not so bad. Neither is an $800 fine, in relation to the above scenario...
  15. Will confirm tomorrow, but I think I'm in for this one.
  16. A friend of mine was once caught driving her Mother's car, unbeknownst to her, her Mother had let the rego lapse, but it was my friend who copped the fines. They were fairly hefty, I remember them being somewhere around $1200 in total, but my memory on it is hazy now. Out of interest, did you know the car was unregistered when you drove it?
  17. Yeah, you live and learn, and your missus gets the shits. Yeah, they're a very subtle yet brauny-looking car, I guess you could say. See you 'round sometime soon, I'll stop clogging this thread now.
  18. Heya Brendan, I wouldn't call it a project as such, it's going to stay pretty stock, you see. Hahaha, well, I won't hold myself to anything eh? Your 'line is sounding quite crazy from what I hear!
  19. I've been good Dan, no complaints. Got me some Jap turbo lovin' now too, and I'm liking it. Expect I'll be seeing a bit more of you all again very soon (heh sorry all ). Thanks for the info, shall keep it in mind and will obviously confirm one way or another closer to the date.
  20. Hey guys, long time no speak. Might be interested in the show and shine, if I've got the new beast all polished and waxed and looking its best by then. How many cars are you guys anticipating being in it?
  21. Richard, everyone seems to get told something different as to why the pod filter is supposedly illegal. The two most common ones in my experience are: a). Because modifying the induction system means the vehicle's emissions may change (this is the most unlikely one, I'd say, simply because it's not illegal to put a panel filter in your stock airbox, the net result at the end is the same: more flow. I can't see how it would change your emissions in any appreciable way, either). B). Noise pollution. No one can deny that a pod filter makes a heck of a lot of noise, and boxing a filter means it goes back to being quiet, like the car was when it left the factory (this is by far the most likely real reason for them being defectable, IMO). I've never heard the fire hazard reason before though, I have to say. If it was an older car with a carby, then I can see how that would be so, seeing as the carby will often splutter fuel all over the filter, but on a modern car with the filter not even near the fuelling system, and not near any source of spark or flame, clearly that's hardly an issue. Hmmm, I'm tempted to write a letter to the EPA to find out once and for all. This topic gets brought up way too often with no real resolution!
  22. Oh, ok then! Thanks Moanie, I'll remember the tip.
  23. Surely if the defect is ultimately proven not to be an actual defect, then any associated point loss/fine would not apply? I know I've waxed lyrical about this before on numerous occasions, but it's just as important for us to know the rules as it is for the Police to know. Everyone should check out www.ajc13b.com and read the LAW section. Steve (the owner of the site) has assembled a heap of info, including, last I checked, the vehicle regulations which specify what is a defect (handy for those "no H-pattern on gearknob" type defects), a copy of the ADRs, and a lot of good advice we can use to arm ourselves with the knowledge required to make our lives as modified car owners a bit easier.
  24. So you mean Johnny Knoxville isn't the coolest, trendiest guy on Earth? Someone should tell all those tools I see around the North shore in those sunnies and trucker hats then!
