Guys, correct me if I'm wrong here, but perhaps the Police don't have anything about AFM mods in their big book 'o' naughties because technically it's an emissions issue, and would fall under the jurisdiction of the EPA? Technically speaking, anything that is non-standard IS defectable. The defect is only an order to have the item checked by someone authorised to do so, so what varies is whether the defect will stick or not. You may well find that after being issued with a defect for something, the person who clears it will tell you there was no problem whatsoever. The cop isn't an engineer/mechanic though, so ge issues the defect when he suspects something is non-compliant. Also, just one other thing that occurred to me regarding checking the tyre pressures of a vehicle that has booked you for speeding - surely if the tyre pressures of the vehicle which booked you are HIGHER than the prescribed 42psi, that means you were going even faster again than the Police vehicle's speedo would suggest? Sorry if I've mentioned anything that's already been discussed, I did read almost all of the thread, but I'm a bit tired at the moment, so I might have missed something.

I will be attending a dinner earlier in the evening, but perhaps I could drag some of the posse attending that out and we could meet up with you guys. Will have to see on the night!

Won't be able to make a cruise on this night, though it's possible I might be able to catch up with you later on..

Cheers FAT32, I sure won't be racing. I've been waiting to drive on a track day for yonks, and the last time I was lined up to do it, the day got cancelled, so this should be the one, as long as it doesn't rain. As a result, I've watched a fair few days now, so I'd say I've learnt a fair bit without even being on the track yet. I've also done a couple of hot laps with Dan as well, so I've got some idea as to the lines at EC. I'm sure it'll take some getting used to though! I forgot to mention also Grim, there will be a couple of Team Trackday Gurus on hand to go out for some laps with you to tell you where the proper lines are, and how to smoke the bags hard exiting turn two... Erm, I mean, drive safely and within your limits, while having fun and improving your driving...

I've heard some people say Wakefield is a better beginner's track, doe to the apparent lack of things to hit if you come off. Really though, if you're a track day virgin, just go in a lower group than the rest of the guys, and cruise it until you get more confident. You should be fine, that's what I'm doing.

I'll be there, along with my Dad, to give the BM a caning. It'd better not rain, or I'll be very annoyed! Dan, I take it my deposit has appeared in your acount by now? See you all there.

Just for Andrew's c0ckyness, I propose the "yellow" shirt be hot pink.

Zane, to combat the messiness problem, perhaps put the tracks two-by-two, but leave a fairly large gap between the top two and the bottom two, that way as you say, using a permanent laundry marker you could stack times up, when you break your best time, add the new time underneath your previous best, with the date. Cool little memento for when you're old and grey.

Humbla, if that's how it happened, then sure, that was pretty rude, and a less-than-ideal way to deal with a potential customer (to understate things a bit). I'm by no means trying to defend them, but perhaps due to some misinformation being posted on these forums, they had been inundated with calls about a product they didn't even sell... If that were the case, I could sort of understand that you might begin to get annoyed. Still, I'm only hypothesising, and if that were the situation anyway, it doesn't change the fact that it's rude. I also wasn't attacking you or anything, I just thought it was an odd story to hear (although now that I think about it I've heard soooo much worse about a guy who deals in old American cars (the type of car I own), so anything's possible), and more often than not, people telling such stories seem to leave little details out of their version... As Roy says, every workshop will have its detractors, as well as its zealous devotees. All I can say is that from my experience, a CAS dyno day seems to be a very smooth-running event, with some support from the participants. 'Nuff said from me, I think.

Brendan, the engineers have to be approved by the RTA to issue Engineer's Certificates, so I guess based on that they're all about as good as one another (EDIT: or so one would think, but after reading that link Frank posted it seems even the RTA don't endorse their approved signatories' work. Kinda weird, really). As Frank said, certificates are supposed to verify that your vehicle complies to all the relevant standards, so as far as I can tell, the only way your car can be defected is if you sit back and take it. Remember, just because a cop issues a defect doesn't mean he/she's right. If it comes down to it, you may need to make a trip to the officer's station for a chat with their superior officer though... It may pay to check out www.ajc13b.com as well, no doubt Steve has some useful info on all this there. Brendan, given the fact you are a year or two outside the normal age bracket for a "hoon" (), and don't look like your average punk kid with a fast car, I'd be inclined to think you won't really have too much trouble with the Police... Of course, I could be wrong!

While I wouldn't be participating in the day in any other capacity than spectating, I can vouch for the Croydon guys running a very tight ship on days like this. A PF dyno day happened some time ago (over a year ago I'm pretty sure), and I think from memory we got over 30 cars on and off the rollers. It took just a little effort from us to keep the supply of cars flowing, and they turned them over nice and quick. A light run to make sure all seemed ok, and then a couple of power runs. It strikes me as kind of odd that they'd make an unprovoked comment like "Skyline Forum are all a bunch of wankers" when it appears they're trying to build a name for themselves as somewhat of an authority on Skylines!

Whoah, what's with the attitude in here?! Anyone who thinks about it for a moment can figure out that how quick you are down the quarter mile and how quick you can lap a circuit are completely unrelated... There are skills in both which take time to acquire. Anyone who has tried both will tell you the same, I'm sure. Let's not let the light-hearted digs that the track fans give the strip fans and vice versa turn in to a divisive issue and the cause of petty bitchfights. That's lame.

I think you should model the motto of Team Trackday on something like, say, the Team Evade motto... Although Christian's is pretty good.

Hmm, nice Dan, it looks in quite good nick, original, but in good nick. Did you realise it was a Buick when you were telling me about it last week? As for the DV burning to CD thing, not so simple, it would have to be converted to another format first because DV takes about 14gig for one hour of DV format video. I'll sort something out, I'll let you know when I've got the software side of things happening properly, as I'm still ironing some creases out. Andrew, EC lap times? Hmm, prolly about 4 minutes I'd guess. Might have to bring mine along when it's finished, and get an idea, eh? Do they even have a group G?

Correct, 1 bar or 14.7psi IIRC is atmospheric pressure at sea level. An interesting side note which many people don't think about is that as a result, when your boost gauge shows, for example, 1 bar of boost, the intake manifold is actually at 2 bar, because you're adding 1 bar of BOOST to the 1 bar of atmosperic pressure. I guess that means drivers of NA vehicles could tell people they're running 1 bar through their motor...

My understanding is the same as Ben's. As another analogy (an exaggerated one to help illustrate the point), imagine two different-sized air tanks. One maybe the size of a Coke bottle, the other the size of the tank on the back of a petrol tanker. Pressurise both to a given pressure, say 20psi. They're both at 20psi PRESSURE, but the difference in VOLUME is massive.

So, the list above, is that list based on the assumption that each individual person listed is coming in a seperate car? If one on that list decides to get a lift with someone else instead of driving, is that a problem as far as the movie people are concerned?
-
It definitely sounded VERY wierd on part throttle, for example coming out of turn 2. Almost electronic... It was really odd.
-
Don't worry Dundan, we'll sort something out for you another time. The aim was not to catch footage of people drifting only, it just turned out that way on the day. Does anybody know which other parts of the track are accessible to the public?
-
My vid wasn't encoded with DivX, it was Windows Media. Maybe you don't have the latest version of DivX (5.5 I think?), because I think that's what Kinks encodes in...

Soooo... I should choose between quitting my job, therefore having no income, to do a job that pays nothing, OR I should hire someone (presumably using some of the money I don't get paid for doing the job) in order to help me with it? Hmmmm... Let me sleep on that one. :bahaha: Has anyone ever told you you're an ideas man, Dan?
-
Thanks Dundan! I'll have to grab a lift at a trackday sometime with you, and see what all the fuss is about this blue stocker that laps so quick...

While sticking to my policy of not publicly promising anything too much, there will be video to come. Stay tuned...
