That's great to here Alan. Let us know more about it once you get your car back.

I have a custom cooler with core size 700x350x76. (Larger than needed at the moment). Genie dump and front pipes and hi flo cat. HKS Hi Po cat back. Full engine management system running at 1bar.
-
I missed it too. I didn't read the post until today. Anyone got a copy on tape or something?
-
Sorry to hear that. I will definately keep my eyes open for your car if I see it. Hope you get it back soon.

I have a mate that is interested in a chaser. Apparently there is a black one going around that is for sale. Has anyone seen this? Does anyone know this guy? Thanks.

Sounds like a good plan. Once everything done and the engine is tuned well, that target should be attainable with the stock turbo at 14psi.
-
Yeah I had this set-up but I also installed a boost controller. I found that with the standard boost setting there was more lag down low but better top end due to the larger FMIC. Anyway, I set my boost to ard 11-12psi which was ok. I was told that the standard turbo can go to around 14psi but at that setting I had trouble with air/fuel ratio. I think its better for your turbo if you have a custom dump and front pipe and better for your engine to have a safc or ems if you decide to consistently run higher boost (14psi) with standard turbo. Just my two cents....

Happy Birthday Macka! So how young does this one make you?

Paul, The article compared all major tyre manufacturers. As I mentioned earlier, the Hankooks came to about half the price of the name branded tyres e.g. Bridgestones $364 each, Pirelli ard $400 from memory. I agree with what you're saying, its just that the article was basically a "Bang for your bucks" style comparison. It tested wet & dry handling, braking and value for money. So for ppl that are wanting the performance factor but want to save a little money the article is relevant. Hope that helps.

The Toyo's came out somewhere in the bottom 4 I think and Simex was either last or second last. I was thinking of getting the Hankooks Venturis as I had them quoted for $199 each (the article quoted $175). They are a better wet weather tyre as a pose to dry, but the main selling point was the quality for an affordable price. Also, in addition to having very good grip, the tread life is about twice that of the Bridgestone G Grid (approx 17000km). I was planning to get these originally. Falken was a notable omission from the tests. I don't know why.

From memory there was an article in Motor or Wheels magazine in a recent edition. It was either 1 or 2 months ago. Anyway, I think the top rated performance tyre based on wet and dry driving was the Pirelli, followed by the Bridgestone and Goodyear. A respectable 6th out of about 16 tyres was the Hankook. It came it at around half the price of the top brand and were behind the Yokohama and Dunlop. All the tyres were 235/45/17.

Other than suspension, the other ways to make your car more stable, point better and have less body roll are: Strut bars front and rear to stiffen the car Sway bar to lessen body roll Pineapples to lessen diff tramp I am refering to the part in your post which says "....apart from suspension...." Just my 2 cents....

You guys forgot to mention Wheelspin, which is a performance auto/motor sports accessory shop.

Adrian, Don't get too excited on getting your dump pipe in. When I had my front, dump and hi flo cat done I had to run them in a couple of hundred kms to make sure the gaskets had sealed. Once done, it should give you a meater mid range though. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

F/S HKS EVC 3 Boost controller

Here is a pic of the boost controller. Regards -
I quite like number 1. If you go ahead with it I would take 1 maybe 2.

Its been interesting reading all your arguments about tuning shops. All I can comment on is my personal experience. In my dealings with SST, I am ready to back Paul up on its reputation. They take care in looking after the car and its owner, and yes they do keep their bookings. Steve is a good bloke and the others around like Grant are always ready to chip in with some advise. Don't ever forget that tuning shops are there to give "expert" advise and workmanship to your car. At the end of the day, the decision is in your hands as the owner of the vehicle. If the garage decides that X is a reliable package and you decide to go ahead and do Y then its your perogative if your car dies, but please don't flame the garage. Just my 2 cents.....

If you are into "name brands" then I read the Apexi power intake has a good filtration and good air flow combination compared to the other brands e.g. HKS, Blitz, K&N. Also, it is a dry type, meaning you don't need to re-oil it after cleaning (Autospeed). Otherwise, just go for a cheap Hurricane air filter from Works. Does the job and for ard the same price as the redline filter you won't lose any sleep over it.

Question about turbo exhaust restriction ?
Kichigai replied to sidewaymambo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I got XSpeed to get me the whole lot (dump, front pipe and 3" hi flo) They get theirs done at Genie Myaree as GTSt VSpec mentioned earlier. It cost me just under $800. Apparently, it used to be cheaper as they used different cat(ceramic?), but they tended to break apart. Mine was one of the newer designs. It cost a little more, but I haven't had any problems so far. -
Question about turbo exhaust restriction ?
Kichigai replied to sidewaymambo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Also, correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the turbo heat up quicker if there is more restriction behind it? i.e. standard front and dump pipe Better flows means the turbo can work more efficiently. -
I've got a custom 700X350X75 and you can feel its adds a little lag on the standard boost. All you need to do is up the boost and you should be fine. I only got this FMIC as it was selling cheap and I knew it had a good core, otherwise I would have gotten something a little smaller. Best thing is to have a power goal and have a plan to get the right parts. Just my 2 cents....

Just wondering if anyone can fill me in on why certain garages dyno in different gears? Does it give a different output reading? If so, what are the reasons for running in different gears? Just plain curious.
