  1. Would it help to put in a hose from the top of the sump above the oil level connected to the top of both cam covers to equalize the pressure and allow oil to flow down? I'm surprised Nissan have this design fault with the RB engines and I'd be interested to see what they say about it. From what I can tell it's only a problem for high revving drift and track cars?
  2. I've got a '96 Skyline with the Cloud White QM1 paint. Just did a small touch up on the back bumper. Used Holts Dupli Color Polar White DSD42 from Autobarn. Looks like a very good match. Holts Dupli Color paint codes. http://www.saauto.com.au/userfiles/file/Catalogues/Duplicolor/Dupli-Color%20Guide%202011.pdf According to the Holts paint guide there are 4 Nissan QM1 paints. Polar White DSD42, Alabaster White DSF76, Alabaster White Var R DST45 and another Alabaster White DST52. I'd say the Polar White is the whitest and the Alabaster Whites have a bit more cream in them.
  3. Thanks gotRICE that's a good idea I might do that. Make a centre piece I can bolt in, probably be easier. I've had the car for about 2 years and it just needs a change, a bit more of a rumble would be nice. Your car sounds mean.
  4. I have an R33 GTS-T with BOS front pipe, Catco cat, Trust PE2 cat back and it is a bit too quiet. It is a full stainless steel system. I want it a bit louder. I was thinking of cutting out the muffler and putting in a bit of 3" pipe but after reading on here that would probably be too loud. Is my only option, without getting a new catback, to cut out the old muffler and weld in a new smaller louder muffler?
  5. Just put in Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40. Best oil I've used for the RB25DET. Smoother quieter idle, very smooth running and revving. Had Penrite HPR5 5w-40 in there and that was not bad but it seems better with the Shell. Before that had Valvoline Synpower 5w-40 which made the engine run very smoothly but the Shell seems slightly better.
  6. Just thought I'd stick a few pics of my '96 Skyrine on. Also one of the ol '72 Charger.
  7. This tyre test is interesting. It shows braking from 100km/h dry and wet. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2012-Autobild-50-Tyre-Braking-Test.htm Down the bottom there are some real shockers but the mid-range performers seem good value.
  8. I was reading about the different groups III IV etc and thought this was interesting. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2061556 This guy seems to know a bit about the oil industry. I might be using Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40 next time. http://www.shell.com.au/products-services/on-the-road/consumer-lubricants-tpkg/cars/find-right-car-oils/helix-ultra/ultra.html
  9. I've been looking in to the R33 GTST 5 speed manual gearbox oil level. On here most people fill to the fill plug until oil comes out which is about 3.8 litres. Seems like the correct level. My fill plug is so tight I couldn't get it out so I filled through the shifter which is much easier, but you have to measure the exact amount. Now here's where it gets interesting. On the Valvoline, Castrol and Penrite websites they all state 2.8 litres as the capacity for the R33 GTST manual gearbox. I assume they must've got this from Nissan. I think I'll put in 3.8 not 2.8 like it says on their websites. They also state 1.3 litres for the diff which is the same as filling to the fill plug, I measured it when I did my diff, 1.3 litres exactly. For the R34 GT and GTT manual no capacity is mentioned at all. For the R33 GTR they say 4.1 and refer to dealer for the R34 GTR. http://www.datateck.com.au/lube/valv_auMS/default.asp http://www.datateck.com.au/lube/castr_au/default.asp http://www.datateck.com.au/Lube/PenriteAus/
  10. Been using Valvoline Synpower 5w-40. Makes the RB25DET run very very smooth. I'd recommend it. Think I'll try Penrite HPR 5 full synthetic 5w-40 for next oil change in about 200ks. A little bit cheaper and I've always thought Penrite was a very good brand. Got Penrite manual gear 80 80w-85 in the 5 speed box and it's a bit notchy when cold 1st to 2nd but once it warms up very smooth. I'll try Castrol VMX-80 with Nulon G70 in the box and see if it's any better cold.
  11. Think I'll get Linglong 175s all round. Very underrated high performance tyre and they look good.
  12. At the moment I've got 235/45/17 all round Kumho KU36 front Goodyear Eagle F1 back on my '96 R33 GTSt. They've only got about 1mm to the tread wear indicator so looking at some new ones. Just after some normal street tyres nothing too expensive got about 190Kw ATW. These Nexen N6000 look pretty good value. http://www.thewheeld...roducts_id=3029 Thought of Achilles ATR Sport or Federal SS595 but from what I've read these are pretty crappy and the Nexen N6000 are much better. http://www.tyrerevie...formance-Tyres/ http://www.tyrerevie...formance-Tyres/ The Kumhos are grippy but a little noisy. The Goodyears are very grippy and quiet. In the wet both good if you go easy on the throttle.
  13. I've been reading up on fuel pumps for Skylines. The Walbro's are cheaper but there seem to be some fakes floating around and they max out at 60psi also for them to run at max they need a wiring mod, easier to get a better pump. The Bosch 040 seems very good but more expensive. If you measure the stock pump and install the new pump so the intake is at the exact same height inside the tank it should avoid any issues. Think I'll get one of these looks like good value. http://www.prospeedracing.com.au/products/DeatschWerks-300%252b-LPH-High-Flow-In%252dTank-Fuel-Pump-suit-Skyline-GTS%252dTs.html The Walbro without the wiring mod would be OK for my setup but don't want to risk getting a dodgy fake.
  14. Something like this looks pretty good. A direct replacement with no mods would be best. http://www.prospeedracing.com.au/products/Walbro-Fuel-Pump-Uprgade-Kit-%252d-Skyline-GTS%252dT.html
  15. Thanks for that. I thought maybe the fuel pump isn't supplying enough pressure or AAC valve fluttering. The car seems to have a lot of power and must be right on the limit for the stock fuel pump, injectors and ECU so when you back off the throttle slightly reduces the air going in and everything is OK. Might just leave it and not worry too much about it. Could it be the factory boost controller sticking or stiff might try a Turbotech manual boost controller and see if that has any effect.
  16. Hi, I have a small issue with my RB25DET. Under full throttle from about 5,000rpm to redline I get a strange slight surging. If you back off the throttle slightly to 90% it's fine. It kind of feels like boost is going up and down slightly. The car is a '96 R33 5 speed with BOS importing front pipe, Catco wide body cat, Trust PE2 cat back, Apexi pod filter and R34 GTT intercooler apart from that it's stock. I've recently done a full service on it including new NGK plugs and fuel filter and it runs very smooth and powerful except for this small issue. Anyone got any suggestions on what could be causing this? Would be glad to hear any ideas.
  17. RB25PWR. Please explain further...? No I don't have to explain anything to you. What I say goes. Understand? One more word out of you and I'm arresting you for obstruction. I'm only kidding I'm not that much of an arsehole unlike some vile cops who are a disgrace to the badge. Basically unprofessional cowboy cops are being weeded out of the force. If an officer gets multiple credible complaints against them and is found to be acting in an unprofessional manner they will be demoted and sacked. They'll take away their badge and gun and they won't be a cop no more. Recently a law professor was seriously bashed by police these cops will be sacked immediately and charged. Now that's enough from me about unprofessional moron thug cops. Terry_GT-R34 don't take your democratic rights individual freedoms and civil liberty for granted. It's only when they are taken away or infringed upon you realise how important they are. Egypt, Libya, Syria what do you think these people are all protesting and fighting and dying for? They want their democratic rights and freedoms which we sometimes take for granted.
  18. This type of farcical harassment, bullying, intimidation and abuse of a law abiding citizen who has not committed any crime by the police is completely unacceptable in a free democracy. Kicking a person's car and giving out fraudulent incorrect fines which are shown to be non-applicable is police corruption and illegal and possibly grounds for dismissal. An important body of the police force is internal investigation prosecuting police guilty of criminal behaviour. Get everything on video with your mobile phone and if you think you've been abused or intimidated or treated unfairly make a complaint or see a lawyer. The police cannot do anything they want and get away with it despite some of them clearly thinking they can. This is a democracy with individual rights and law abiding citizens should not be abused and treated like dirt by police. If you can make a credible complaint to their superiors they will be disciplined or dismissed or possibly face criminal charges themselves if warranted. If a cop is particularly foul mouthed or resorts to violence you could be looking at a big payout. The morons have to pay people all the time when they get caught acting like Nazis.
  19. One final observation. I'd love to get a Ferrari F40 and stick a Nissan badge on it. Imagine if the cops did a random RWC on the side of the road and thought it was a Skyline. You'd probably be shot on the spot. LOL
  20. That's a valid point but the vast majority of after-market performance parts are not labelled as strictly not for street use race only. If cops want to go round wasting their time looking at air filters, intercoolers and exhaust systems that's their business but I'd prefer if they did actual policing like investigating actual crime rather than pointlessly harassing someone who's done nothing wrong. A motorcycle or scooter is street legal. There's no way an air filter or intercooler or exhaust system could be deemed more dangerous than riding a motorcycle thus judged to be illegal by police. There's no automotive engineering safety justification for some of the defects issued. We all know some of the defect notices are ridiculous and have nothing to do with road safety. Revenue raising? Defecting a front strut brace? If anything this improves the safety of the vehicle. Absolute rubbish. That's my 2c.
  21. Police are not automotive engineers or qualified mechanics and should only look at basic things like tyres. The whole random RWC by police is absurd. You can buy a brand new Harley which is extremely loud or a Porsche or Ferrari with massive wheels, tyres and exhaust and is so low it can't make it over a speed bump. Rich people can drive high performance cars but stick a performance muffler on your Nissan and some cop goes bananas. If all these after-market parts are illegal then why are they sold? These parts are designed and tested by automotive engineers and are perfectly safe. I can understand if a car is extremely loud or has bald tyres but the rest is 100% BS. Modding a car is all illegal is it? That ridiculous statement would make the entire performance parts industry illegal which it is not. I'd like to see the cops do a RWC on a brand new Ferrari and defect everything like they do on some other cars just to illustrate how pointless and absurd they are.
  22. Looking for a stock R34 intercooler in good condition in Melbourne. Will pick up.
