6/4/05 - Marked a milestone in my life...
Myth33 replied to Prospector's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
congrats Troy!!!! have fun, play safe and enjoy.................. nice ride mate!!! -
I agree with this DANOOH. The XR6T has better power to weight ratio. I would imagine that the 4.0L engine would allow the car to keep pulling very hard at high speed too. Thanks for the comments everyone. I have a bit more to add to this thread now, but my descision is still not made. I haven't compared both back to back but I have driven both now and power aside, all I can say is the Skyline looks and feels much better on the road in every aspect. The R34 GTT 4 door leaves an impression on you that it is a true "hi-performance sports car" where as the XR6T looks and feels like a "Family Sedan with stiffer suspension". Its funny because I was finding it hard to put my finger on the differences in these cars. But it is so true what I have siad above, when you sit in the XR6T it feels like any other post 97-98 Aussie sedan, despite the obvious effort put into making the interior feel sporty. Just driving the XR6T around in stop and go traffic (believe it or not) you can really feel the weight (1664Kg) that the engine is lugging around although under hard acceleration the falcon sheds this weight like it was never there in the first place. You are then quickly reminded of the cars weight when you come to brake, its not like the standard brakes can't cope they just feel like in an extreme situation they might let you down. The R34 GTT is no GTR but its a "real drivers car" in every sense of the words. It feels like it could out corner and out brake the XR6T in ANY situation. Yep there really is that much difference. What keeps one such as myself thinking about the XR6T is the sheer grunt the engine has and when you plant the foot the push in the back of your seat is very, very strong! One other point is the number of GTTs getting around ATM. Today I spotted 4 XR6Ts on the way into the city, another 3 or so XR6 or XR6Ts when I was in the city. Then I saw another 4 or 5 of them on my way home. They are quite common now. On the other hand I saw no GTT's today, although I am sure they are around they are nowhere near as common.

Hey Firefrog hows things? Was kinda hoping you were gonna invite me out last weekend for a run in your 34 . Sorry again about not being available much over Easter, had to visit the In-laws in Gympie I am driving a 4 cylinder run about till I sought out my next ride. Give me a call if your goin for another cruise, unless something really important comes up, I'm there!! (besides its another chance to feed my 'R34 buying side of my brain' that is being tortured ATM) Back on topic yeah I know the XR6T's do seem to have their fair share of problems thats for sure!! Being an 03 model Turbo I was trying to think of a valid reason why some would buy a car like that that new and sell it 2 years later seems strange to me?? Its actually a good looking car with good perfomrance, infact it looks like new. hmmmm more thinking required here..... Any other opinions?

XR6T 1664kg 0-100km/hr 6.0 Flat vs GTT 1480Kg 0-100km/hr 6.5 Flat GTT 333nm@3,200RPM vs XR6T 450Nm of torque from 2000-4500rpm (thats more torque than a GTR I believe, that explains why I was impressed) Yep its 240kw for the XR6T now by my calculations thats a power to weight of: 6.9kg/1Kw of power vs 7.18kg/1kw of power for the GTT hmmmmm...... interesting statistics just need to find acurate Quater times now...
-
Yeah the XR6T has a wave of torque that puts you in your seat. The GTT has that too but the XR6T feels much stronger the higher the speedo goes especially anywhere over 60Kms/h (probably the 4.0L capacity vs the 2.5L of the GTT) I'd love to know quarter miles times to give me a good overall impression...will do some googling..... A 98' model vs an 03' model is reallying bobbing around in my head considering it is only about $3,500 more. But I loved my 33 GTS25t so much....hmmmm.....

Ok here is my situation I was just about to purchase a 4 Door R34 GT-T when I test drove a ford XR6T 4 Door (4.0L Turbo). Now I am Very Very confused???? I love my skylines but guys and gals let me tell you the XR6T sedan is one hell of a car (yes I know its the dark side of the force) !! Ok now I am in a living hell, someone please help me!???!! Firstly does anyone know which of these cars are quicker, because its a bit difficult to tell? Which one should I buy please tell me your opinion: Here are the things I am comparing...... R34GTT VS XR6 Turbo (both tip-tronic sedans) 2.5L In-line turbo Six VS 4.0L In-line turbo Six $30,000 VS $33,500 1998 model VS 2003 model 30,000Kms VS 40,000Kms Weight? VS Weight? 206Kw VS 240Kw?? (not too sure on power of XR6T) 0-100kms??? Quarter mile Times???? Other tid bits include: single CD VS 6 CD Premium Sound Cloth Interior VS Black Leather Interior Handling and Brakes would also be another consideration but not too sure on their limits, unfortunately you can't test drive a car the same way you would drive your own car Opinions Please..........everyone I know the GTT is a Skyline but the XR6T felt a bit quicker? Could it be?

Dan hate to coin a term here, but you know you R the MAN!!!!!! That is a champion effort mate.....cheers n15m0 and choyda your added... If not I look forward too catching up with you all on the following trip!!

And I agree for once Matt Back on topic now: I would still love for a meet of some description to take place. Clinton I already have Firefrog's mobile and AFRO has kindly provided his, perhaps we can make a few calls between us (and anyone else interested) and sort something out in advance. Like I said before I'm still waiting for my GTT to arrive but in a fortnight or so I should have it. BTW thanks firefrog for the 'passenger' invite earlier, I might have to take you up on that offer if I'm still waiting

"r34 Only" threads. Sorry can't say I've seen even one like it. The title of this thread is "New & Old R34 Owners" the thread is obviously labelled like this so it describes who the thread might be relevant too, ie: "R34 owners" = People who own R34's that can come in and share their personal experiences etc. I see no reason why this should offend anyone, I mean honestly, its perfectly logical!!
-
Gotta agree with Clinton on this one, get over it people!! Dont' anyone confuse the issue here either. I'm the biggest Skyline fan in the world and yes that includes ALL SKYLINES and even ALL RB Powered vehicles. Anyone who has the mentallity that us 'R34 owners' dont care about other skyline owners in these forums, gee maybe you shouldn't jump to such conclusions. My house is filled to the brim with Skyline memorabilia that would make your head spin!!! (its basically a museum) Infact most of my photos are 'Original' Bathurst Prints of the 31's and 32's. I have no photos of R33's or R34's on display in my home! Further to this I have personally owned 4 RB powered vehicles myself. Fistly I bought a 86 Model VL commodore executive (powered by the Nissan RB30 Engine) then I sold it and bought a 87 VL Calais Turbo commodore (powered by the turbo RB30 Nissan Engine) sold that and bought a 94 R33 4 Door Turbo and have now have just purchased my 98 R34 4 Door Turbo (see I have two childeren and must have four door vehicles incase your wondering) and I still dream of owning a 4 Door GTR (wish, wish) The point of mentioning all of the above is that some of us have infact owned many nissan powered vehicles and like everyone else in here, we are just excited to talk about the current vehicle we own or are purchasing (which just so happens to be R34's for those of us in here) I personally wouldn't go into a thread like this one based on R33's or just GTR's and start making a scene like some people here have. Anyway nuff said on this silliness. Sorry Clinton if you feel I have hi-jacked your thread mate, it was not my intention but like you said you wanted a topic where R34 owners could discuss mods, plan 'meet ups' etc. For those who are still interested in planning a meet, I can not see any reason why we shouldn't do so. I personally would love to get some photos with a car park full of 34's (once again nothing against those who dont own one, gee seems crazy that I should have to justify such a simple idea). Just on this point made by Strutto, I would also like to comment. Myself and others like Firefrog have made numerous posts in the 'Forced Induction' thread to get ideas on Mods etc. and have gratefully recieved advise on these matters. However I am sure you would agree there is no substitute for finding and meeting people in your local area (ala Brisbane) with the same car who have already done some or all of the modifications that you are planning to do. A classic example is the loudness and performance of different exhausts. If I have the opportunity to hear a specific one for myself and maybe even get a referal to someone local I would be over the moon! Just my 2c tho.

OK we have quite a list now! This is sounding better and better by the moment Not to put a damper on non-R34 owners but this is the master list of those Brissy R34 Owners who are interested in doing a met up every so often. (other liners or forum members are obviously welcome at any time) So far we have: Clinton Myth33 Firefrog 666Dan Pear(waiting for the 34 like me ) Afro R34GTX CYA_34 Think of the photo oportunities with this lot, gets me very excited! If we can all agree on the best way to organise this, that would be great. Mobile numbers are great but not everyone may want to provide them online etc? Otherwise I had an Idea that involved creating a new post with all of these details, get it 'STICKY' by the SAU mods under the 'Queensland' thread and from there we can keep track of meets and post meet discusions in that thread. Using the one thread it would be best if we plan meets fortnightly or monthly. Everyone should have sufficient time to get their cars and themselves organised that way . What does everyone think? VOTE now or forever hold your peace!

HKS 'True Street Super Silent' Exhaust?
Myth33 replied to Myth33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
thanks again for the replies everyone -
Well Clinton I'm glad you've made this thread, infact you can count me in on the Brissy meet up as soon as I have my GTT when it arives from Japan shouldn't be too much longer (couple of weeks hopefully) Anyhow I met Firefrog out one night already. We went for a run down the goldcoast and had some fun. Looking foward to doing it all again. Unfortunately I can't come out and with the 33 anymore as it is now sold, just gotta wait for the 34. We should make a list in here of all R34 owners who live in Brissy and who are interested in meeting out one night. Would make for an awesome sight I'd imagine! I know Firefrog is generally keen, as he had message me another night but I couldn't make it, so far we have; Clinton Firefrog Myth33 (soon to have 34 ) Anyone else?

HKS 'True Street Super Silent' Exhaust?
Myth33 replied to Myth33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah I suppose its always going to be a tough one. Thats the nature of purchasing a higher flow exhaust system in that you don't know what your going to get until after you've got it Its great you guys have helped out with some suggestions, now all I need to do is find an exhaust place in Brisbane that supplies any these Japanese brands. I have only so far been able to source the HKS one listed in my first post (new). I believe the HKS one that I am looking at getting fitted, has a resonator on it, so maybe it will be quiet enough. One of the custom exhausts I was quoted $2,200 fitted, I was told that it was Ceramic Coated which reduced the temperature of the exhaust gas and therefore making better flow. Makes sense to me!! Although my brain keeps telling me to forget this and go for the HKS for $1500 fitted. Descisions Descisions. Does a resonator affect the flow that much, because its kinda pointless getting the system fitted for performance reasons if that is the case? -
HKS 'True Street Super Silent' Exhaust?
Myth33 replied to Myth33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah thanks for the advice Paul but I've been down that road. The last exhaust I had fitted to my 33 was supposed to be quiet but turned out to be rather loud. That was fitted by a local exhaust place. This time I thought I'd buy a brand name like HKS or Apexi that others have fitted and know what I'm in for. Has anyone got any sugestions for a R34 GTT? I want full system (Turbo - back). -
I am looking at fitting a HKS 3" M/Bend Exhaust to my R34 GTT as its first mod. I have been qutoed $1500 fitted for this model but I can't seem to find any info on it. Has anyone heard of this model: HKS True Street Super Silent Exhaust ? I have heard of some HKS Exhausts ('Dragger' model I think) that are supposed to be fairly loud, I hope that this model isn't too loud that is all.

R34 GTT Fuel Cut/Ignition Retarding?!
Myth33 replied to Myth33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Ok so far everywhere I go (in Brisbane) I get told they prefer not to tune or use the E-manage. Not naming names or anything but I've been told quote "that the E-manage software is a pain and time consuming" One workshop would charge no less than $800 per tune compared to $300 for tuning of other ECU's. Alternatives that have been recommended were; Haltech and Microtech LT12s. Both of these seem to be rather expensive options though with the Microtech 12s fitted and tuned for $2,200. I am sure diferent workshops recommend different products for numerous reasons such as; experience in tuning, profit margins, supplier limitations etc. Just want to sort fact from fiction at this stage and find someone in Brisbane who I can rely on to carry out quality work. The Unichip sounds like it might be an option, especially if people believe that it fixed the power dip/retarding. Aren't Unichips fairly inexpensive also? I will check it out. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here but I would of thought that if you open up the breathing of the engine ie; with a pannel filter and exhaust you will gain extra airflow; therefore as quoted above get ignition retarding? Has anyone heard of this term called 'boost creep'? I am no mechanic or anything however I have been told that a greater flowing engine, causes less back pressure on the Turbo than the factory set up and thus causes the boost to rise in the process. Not trying to start a firery debate in here people, infact I am just wanting to gain an extra 20-30kw or so above the factory power (about 10%) but I would be upset to find that these simple mods are all for naught because I start getting fuel cut when I rev the engine out. I would prefer to chip the car as well if I am going to get that problem. Just seems like a waste of time and money to me otherwise 'Mean_R34' are you running an afterarket exhaust and/or filter or do you just have the boost controller? -
R34 GTT Fuel Cut/Ignition Retarding?!
Myth33 replied to Myth33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Is the Business name 'Gavin Woods' also? Just wondering so I can find a phone number/address etc. Excuse my ignorance but what sort of problems are to be expected with the car running rich? Poor Fuel Consumption? Would a Dyno Tune fix that? BTW NJR 34GTT how have you found the unichip with the tiptronic? -
Ok I have a R34 GTT 4 Dr Tip-Tronic coming from Japan (Yes very excited!!). I am a bit concerned about many GTT owners who have experienced Fuel Cut and/or Ignition Retarding in the top half of their rev range. Apparently the R34 Computer is very protective and the subsequent shutdowns temporarily reduce power to near stock in some cases. It seems that Owner's have encountered this problem after installing a few simple bolt on mods such as Filter and Exhaust . So here are my Questions: 1) Can any mechanics or owners of GTT's comment on this? Has any GTT auto owners modified their cars with these or other mods and found their car had any wierd acceleration or idling problems? 2) If anyone can recommend a quality (experienced) R34 GTT tuner in Brisbane that would be bloody fantastic! 3) With a full 3" system and panel filter what type of power gains could I expect? Cheers
